We've got two new heroes entering Battlegrounds this week when Patch 20.4 drops - Mutanus the Devourer and Guff Runetotem! The two heroes are being added while Maiev goes on a vacation as she has been temporarily removed from the hero pool.
We've also got a new Demon minion being added, Hexruin Marauder, and some other changes which include the removal of Quilboar being guaranteed in the minion pool.
- Quilboar are no longer guaranteed to be in every Battlegrounds match.
- Siegebreaker has been removed from Battlegrounds.
- Cap’n Hoggarr’s text has been reworded to say “whenever” instead of “after” (no functional change).
Patch 20.4 arrives tomorrow, June 3, alongside the Wailing Caverns mini-set for Forged in the Barrens. Read on to see what the new heroes and minion do.
New Hero: Mutanus the Devourer
It can now pay to buff up some less than ideal early-game minions since their stats can be transferred over to your better minions. Top contender for sure!
- Devour [Costs 0]
- Remove a friendly minion. Spit its stats onto another. Gain 1 Gold.
New Hero: Guff Runetotem
Interesting synergies with Tavern Tiers of cards!
- Natural Balance [Costs 1]
- Give a friendly minion of each Tavern Tier +2/+1.
New Minion: Hexruin Marauder
It looks like the rush to tier 4 is on!
- [Tier 4, Demon] 3 Attack, 5 Health. At the end of your turn, if you have 6 or fewer minions, gain +3/+3.

Mutanus with nomi will be interesting to play with
Mutauns seems actually really insane ... you dont even have to buff anything, you just literally buy a 4/5 or a 4/4 and give those stats to something for free, and get 1 gold back ... this is essentially Rakanishu hero power, but you can snowball early game with it.
Hexruin Marauder is interesting because there are tons of times your 7th slot is a flex slot, and you only fill it with the last minion you play in a turn by default. If you've got a golden Hexruin going, getting +6/6 on a minion you'll keep to the bitter end is a LOT better than leaving up a poorly-statted buff minion in your flex slot, so you'll just sell it, re-roll one more time, and go into battle with 6 minions.
I think we'll be seeing more of it than some people think. It's not *just* for Y'shaarj.
Very interesting mechanics! Looking forward to try them.
Mutanus is clearly op, Guff seems...interesting to say the least.
The Demon guy is just pointless. Sure, Siegebreaker was shit, but at least it doesn't actively try to make you play worse to get value off it. I guess it's supposed to be a temporary snowballer for Demons that you Soul Devour later on
Mutanus seems crazy-good. Goes well with Quilboar if you can't get a Necrolyte to swap your Blood Gems over to someone else.
Guff's kind of neat, too.
Seigebreaker won't be missed.
Hexruin Marauder seems poised to be discovered from your 7-gold turn, when you tier up to 3 and get a golden at the same time (since you definitely won't have a full board). Or it's meant for Y'Shaarj lol
