Greetings everyone,
As the days pass, September is approaching its end, and with it comes the second challenge of Master Duelist, our Duels deckbuilding competition!
For those who may have missed it, Master Duelist is a Duels-exclusive series which revolves around creative deck-building: every time, you'll be asked to create a starting deck with specific restrictions (be them mana cost, keywords, mechanics, etc.) and to get the highest possible score you can hit.
From Zero To Hero
This time, the deck-building requirements consist in creating a starting list containing at least 1 card from each mana cost, from 0 to 10 mana. Signature Treasures, different for each class, will count as well!
The challenge will end on September 30, at 23:59:59 EST, so make sure to submit your score in time!
More information can definitely be found in the challenge's main page (together with some available starting deck, in case you'd like to give the challenge a try), so make sure to check it out!
Challenge's Rewards
Remember, if you'll be able to get a remarkable final score, there will be rewards for you! In fact, everyone who posts proof of a 7+ wins run in the dedicated submission forum thread will be awarded with a different amount of Gold, an in-site currency you'll be able to earn from different activities and that will be used to purchase cosmetics in our in-site shop. In order for your run to count towards the challenge, you'll have to provide an appropriate proof of your feat; otherwise, your result won't count.
Here's a quick breakdown explaining the rewards you'll receive based on your performances:
TOTAL WINS | GOLD EARNED |
Best Result (both Casual and Heroic) | 200 |
12 | 100 |
10-11 | 50 |
8-9 | 20 |
7 | 10 |

If you want to submit your score, follow the instructions in the forum thread.
How is the Challenge Going?
Master Duelist Challenge 2 has been a lot more successful than Challenge 1 so far: in fact, we already received a total of 11 submissions, plus a couple more shared by the same users just for the sake of showing their results with other builds. We can no nothing but praise these interactions from the community members, as well as the efforts put towards competing in 'From Zero To Hero': we wholeheartedly thank everyone who decided to join us and have a shot at our challenge!
In regard of how the challenge is going, we received 12 (!) valid 12 wins submissions, achieved with different classes - that's quite the variety right there!
Here are some of the most interesting builds we've seen so far.
Disclaimer: 'From Zero To Hero' started on September 10th, before Patch 21.3, so many submitted runs won't be replicable anymore due to the changes to All Together Now and such. Said runs are still valid, but you'll have to come up with a different strategy if you want to use the same starting deck!
Calenmir's 12 Wins C'thun Warrior - 12-1 Casual Run
Master Duelist 1.1's champion is back at it with another astounding result! This time, they decided to focus on C'Thun Warrior, and we'd say that the task was successfully accomplished!
This archetype was one of the easiest ones for the challenge, since you already want to include C'Thun as a 10-drop and you don't have to run any non-synergistic high-costed units; moreover, the C'Thun package and the generally good Neutrals complete the list and give you a strong Battlecry synergy, which definitely helped the players during their run.
Passive Treasures Chosen
First pool - All Together Now
Second pool - Rally the Troops
Evilgnomey's 12 Wins Dude Paladin - 12-1 Casual Run
You may have already seen this starting deck, as we featured it in one of our last Duels meta reports, but Evilgnomey was able to get all the way to the finish line with a rather unconventional deck. Good old Silver Hand Recruit is still packing quite the punch it seems!
Passive Treasures Chosen
First pool - Rhonin's Scrying Orb
Second pool - Greedy Gains
Avalon's 12 Wins Questline Priest - Casual Run
Talking about rather unconventional way to hit 12 wins with, here's some Questline Seek Guidance Priest by Avalon. While Purified Shard won just a couple games, Shadow Mend was a great way to cycle through your deck and sustain your opponents' damage output - in the end, you usually win games by hitting your foes in the head with sheer stats rather than with your Quest.
If you'd like to have more information about the starting deck, Avalon wrote a wonderful guide with mulligan and playstyle tips, as well as Active/Passive Treasures guide and more!
Passive Treasures Chosen
First pool - Crystal Gem
Second pool - Meek Mastery
Now that you know everything you need, grab your deck: it's time to D-D-D-D-Duels! Good luck to everyone!
