A few changes have gone live in a hotfix to improve Hearthstone's collection management and some fun stat issues with Caverns of Time reprint cards. Read on for all the details.
Quote From Blizzard We’ve just released a client hotfix with the following game updates and bug fixes:
- [Collection] Fixed an issue where copying a deck code that included a card that existed in two sets, when you had the card in one set but not the other, would sometimes show the card as “missing.”
- [Collection] Fixed an issue where if a card existed in two sets and you had it in one, but not the other, the card would appear as “missing” when using the “missing” search keyword within the Collection format filters (Standard/Wild/Twist). Now it will not show as “missing” if you have it in either version. It will only show a particular expansion’s version of a card as missing if you filter by that particular expansion.
- [Collection] Fixed a bug with the Caverns of Time reprint cards where, if you own any copies of the original version and exactly one copy of the Caverns of Time version, the Caverns of Time version would not be visible or able to be crafted in your Collection.
- [Hearthstone] Partially resolved a bug where Soot Spewer and Spawn of Shadows did not have the stats of their original versions updated to match their Caverns of Time versions (both cards got +1 Health with Caverns). We are also working on a server hotfix, launching soon, which will also partially resolve this bug. Both portions are needed to fully resolve the issue—the client portion updates the cards in your Collection and the server portion updates the cards in-game—so some minor issues are expected until both portions of the fix are live on your device.*
This patch is now available on desktop. For mobile devices, client release timing is based on when the build is available on that particular device’s storefront. Be mindful that if you update in one place (like desktop), you will then be blocked from logging into an un-updated version (like if the update isn’t available on your phone yet).
There are also a couple of new known issues that are being tracked by Blizzard.
Quote From Blizzard
- [Added 9/5] [Hearthstone] If you Renounce Darkness in Twist, it’s possible that you roll Death Knight or Demon Hunter–which aren’t in this Twist season–and your cards cease to exist. The team is investigating. For now, sometimes it’s better to be bad.
- [Added 9/5] [Hearthstone] There are a couple instances of cards being able to Discover another set’s version of themselves, circumventing the “can’t Discover yourself” rule.

I haven't bought any Caverns of Time packs, but it sounds like ownership is separate for each version of the same card, even though the originals got buffed to match the CoT versions, and I'm guessing you can't have two copies of the original version and two of the CoT version in the same deck. Wouldn't it make a lot more sense if you open or craft a card from the original set, you are considered to own it in CoT too, or vice versa?
Or I guess they want you to buy CoT packs so you can get all the cards you already have.
Yup agreed. The CoT packs are a complete waste of time coz you do get duplicates even though everyone is saying duplicate protection is working.
For eg: I already owned 6 copes of Jade Spirit from MSoG but I opened 2 copies in CoT packs, before I got new cards like Rat Sensei or Invigorate.
But who knows, some ppl were saying it was working correctly for them but it didn't for me and I'm still missing a lot of CoT specific common and rare cards.
The reprint idea was just a bad idea to begin with. Blizzard should've just treated the brand new CoT cards like a mini-set but ofc, they want money.
Edit: After some investigating I found Old Guardian's video quite enlightening: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NROP88Em5TA
The reason this is happening to me is coz Blizzard only started tracking duplicates from 2020. So if you're a long time player, the CoT packs will be a waste of time coz you will get duplicate cards.
Damn broken notification system not telling me someone replied. Saw this had two comments so I decided to check.
Yeah, that sucks. I was thinking more on the lines of say for example you own Small-Time Buccaneer from MSG. Since it's really the same card it should show as owned in your collection under CoT as well, but I'm guessing that isn't the case. Same thing in reverse if you don't have the original, but open it in CoT.
Do you mean they started tracking cards you previously owned in 2020? Because there doesn't need to be any special tracking for cards you currently own.
Not sure what the main set would be if CoT was a mini-set. Legacy? I like the idea of being able to get the buffed cards from one place, assuming the buffs are worthwhile, and it didn't have the duplicate problems. That way you can just get some packs to pick up the new cards and anything of the reprints you don't already have.
From how I understand it, Blizzard only started tracking duplicates from 2020 when they enabled the duplicate protection, so all cards you owned before 2020 won't be tracked for duplicate protection. Not sure why they can't retroactively track cards that are in your collection.
Yeah, but if you still have it, they can simply see you have two copies already. I guess they are only looking at the history and not your current collection, but it should be pretty easy to do so.
