Lunar New Year Returns to Hearthstone - Datamined Bundle, Daily Quests, New Brawl

The Lunar New Year comes to Hearthstone with a brand new Brawl and a slew of quests to help you ring in the new year in style.

Datamined Bundle

We've datamined details that Blizzard did not give us in their overview of the event.

  • There will be a bundle available.
  • We aren't certain of the contents though previous Lunar New Year bundles have given us 30 packs from the previous year.

Datamined Daily Quests

Blizzard confirmed that daily quests have returned for this year's Lunar New Year. Interestingly, no new quests were added to the client!

With no quests, does that mean they're repeating last year's quest rotation? They sure are!

  • Do not expect another Fireworks Tech, this quest was flagged as being never available.
  • With the above quest flagged as being gone, that says we're reusing last year's quests.
  • The daily quests reward both gold and arcane dust!

Here are all the quests.

  • Looking Forward - Take 15 turns.
    • Rewards: 60 Gold & 60 Dust
  • Honor One's Elders - Take 25 turns.
    • Rewards: 100 Gold and 100 Dust
  • First of the Year - Play 5 minions that cost 1.
    • Rewards: 60 Gold and 60 Dust.
  • Good Fortune - Draw 15 cards.
    • Rewards: 60 Gold and 60 Dust
  • New Year's Blessings - Draw 25 cards.
    • Rewards: 100 Gold and 100 Dust
  • A Magical Year - Play 20 spells.
    • Rewards: 60 Gold and 60 Dust
  • Magical Revelries - Play 35 spells.
    • Rewards: 100 Gold & 100 Dust
  • Dragon-Fireworks! - Play 3 Dragons
    • Rewards: 80 Gold and 80 Dust

Trivia: Did you know that the Lunar New Year dailies are the same ones from the Taverns of Time event but with different names?

Tavern Brawl: Lunar Blessings

Good fortune is coming your way this Lunar New Year! In this Tavern Brawl, you’ll start by choosing a class, and you’ll be given a random deck. Each class also has the choice between three different Blessings: buffs that will carry into your game and give you an advantage. You’ll have to choose wisely to find the right animal to best support your strategy.

Quests and Rewards

During the event, you’ll also have the opportunity to complete eight different special themed quests, each one rewarding both gold and dust! These also start January 29th, so don’t miss out!

Be sure to give your opponents a festive greeting with Lunar New Year emotes! The Lunar New Year Event will run from January 29th to February 12th.

  • Do we get a normal and a Lunar quest every day or just a Lunar instead of a normal one?
    Can we reroll normal quests into Lunar quests?

  • The hearthstone celebrations for Chinese new year is right after the real Chinese new year in 2020. Nice.

    • Monkey as well, it has another mouth on its chest :o

      • I think the monkey is supposed to be growing: that's the usual way people draw it. Still terrifying, though.

  • Blizzard must making big money in China, because there was no special quests/special rewards for regular New year, only for Chinese New Year.

    • This is actually the case with a lot of products - very rarely will people be interested in New Years themed things, but Chinese New Year is loved by a lot of Western audiences because of the attached myths and aesthetic.

      MtG, for example, is releasing their 'Year of the Rat' Secret Lair product. Overwatch has always done a Lunar New Year event. Blizzard could be doing miserably in China and they'd still do this instead of 'New Year' stuff.

  • I assume we can roll old daily quest into lunar daily quest? In order to get better value

  • I think it's safe to assume that the new hero, celeste, will be included in the bundle correct?

    • Very likely, especially with a name like 'Celeste' - it's very appropriate, and would follow on from Dame Hazelbark being part of a bundle (and I think The Thunder King was too, wasn't he?).

      • Yes, the Shaman skin came in the bundle that supported a Masters tour, Las Vegas if I remember correctly.

  • Is it me not noticing something, or is it badly worded, or does Blessing of the Dog turn your minions into essentially pre-nerf Beast Dreadsteeds?

    • It's even worse with blessing of the rat.

    • It might be hard-coded not to work with the Mastiffs, so there isn't an infinite loop.

      But, in the absence of that, yes that is indeed pre-nerf Dreadsteed's effect.
