Blizzard has released the most popular minions picked in Hearthstone's Battlegrounds. Do the results surprise you?
Quote From Dean Ayala Murloc Tidehunter is the most picked Tier 1 Minion. Spawn of N'Zoth for Tier 2, Cobalt Guardian for Tier 3, Defender of Argus for Tier 4, Brann Bronzebeard for tier 5, and Ghastcoiler for Tier 6.

Defender of Argus goes really nicely with Brann and if you can get Brann on board then defender of argus your creatures then start putting down the card that gives your taunt minions +2/+2 that is +4/+4 per drop which is significant. Those cards plus 5 good murlocs will carry you into end game.
Defender makes sense in that it - or rather the battlecry - fits every build, at the time where you're hitting or sitting at 4.
All of these make sense as solid universal picks - most of the cards you're probably all thinking of are comp-specific. The two exceptions are Tidehunter - which is the best middle-of-the-road pick on turn 1, since it's 3/2 of stats with a 2 gold refund - and Cobalt Guardian which is ridiculously good even as a standalone minion in the early game if you just play one other throwaway mech.
Defender of Argus is the only one that surprises me though there's nothing mind-blowing at tier 4 - some decent picks, but nothing comp-defining. What surprises me is that Menagerie Magician wasn't higher than it.
I very rarely pick Defender of Argus. I don't see the effect super useful outside of trying to get taunt to a poisonous/divine shield minion. But then again my Battlegrounds rating is horrible so what do I know.
He's quite good with Deathrattles like Goldrin, Spawn or Selfless. Other than that, I'm quite surprised to see he's the 1 Taver 4 minion.

The more taunts you have, the more value you can get from that "give +2/+2 to all your taunts", so that's a nice buff.
Shouldnt come as a surprised the murloc tidehunter and Brann's there. Murloc builds are insane in this current meta for BG.
Cobalt Guardian is the only reason why mech is playable now, so no surprise there.
Defender of Argus is surprising though, since taunts are more strategic in BG. I think there are better cards available than that card to be honest.
It doesn't have to do with murloc builds.. it's just a 2/1 + a 1/1 but you get to sell the token so you lose less gold for buying it, also has synergy with some heroes like dancing daryl or deathwing.
Fair enough. But at turn 1 if I was provided with a choice between alley cat and murloc tidehunter, I'm usually skewing towards murloc tidehunter.
As one of the two cards that actually spawns another minion when played, and the fact that brann is up there and alley cat is not, that's my guess.
Defender of Argus was a bit of a surprise, but I guess it makes sense to have a neutral (meaning, a non-tribe card) as the most popular pick.
