Dean Ayala has confirmed that The Caverns Below is not one of the cards being unnerfed when the first expansion of 2020 returns.
Last week we learned that 10 Hearthstone cards were going to have their nerfs reverted. This led to plenty of speculation in the community, including some by us, to figure out which cards could be getting restored to their former glory. Unfortunately for The Caverns Below, but fortunately to the sanity of players everywhere, the card will not be restored.
The Caverns Below has been nerfed twice since it was added to the game with the Journey to Un'Goro expansion.
- Patch 8.4.0 released on July 10, 2017 - Quest criteria increased to 5 minions (from 4).
- Patch 11.11.1 released on May 22, 2018 - Quest Reward now changes all minion stats to 4/4 (from 5/5).
This is the latest news we have for the upcoming unnerfed cards, with the update beforehand being confirmation that Sludge Slurper will be coming back as a 2/1.
How do you feel about The Caverns Below staying the way it is?
Quote From Dean Ayala Yooo Dean you're looking glowing and handsome like always!
Also unrelated note can you unnerf The Caverns Below? :^)
No

The card is so bad in wild that even the original play 4 minions to make them 5/5 won't make it good. And personally I think the prep nerf hurt it even more. it is harder to vanish or prep out the reward
I actually agree, I think even prenerfed caverns wouldn't be able to stand up to secret mage and mech paladin (though it does have sap, so I could see myself being wrong.) Maybe just reverting one of the nerfs would be enough because it would destroy a lot of the control decks.
Thank God.. that card was cancer.
i want Raza unnerfed PepeHands
Expecting? No...
Hoping... Kinda...
This still leaves me feeling that the cards that are being reverted are ones that only had any real impact on the standard format while either seeing little to no play in wild even pre-nerf status.
So in other words I fear the changes will be to cards that were uninteresting in wild to begin with.
I suppose we can expect everything from the nerf-reverts, new expansions, reveal schedule, what was discussed in the summit etc. will all be mashed into one announcement then released en-masse to the public.
Why, just why?
To me that card was deplorable, I was so glad to see it nerfed both times.
There was also the nerf to Giggling Inventor, which wasn't strictly a Caverns nerf but did happen around the time that deck was making a resurgence.
I was kinda hoping caverns would go back 1 nerf but ah well. I refresh the outofcards hope page many times during the day to see if there have been an announcement. Its driving me crazy!
Tomorrow do we learn that Chillwind Yeti will remain unchanged too? Team 5 turning into a snoozefest...
I'm pretty sure by now they'll talk about Changes when they also announce the next Year/Xpac. Maybe there'll be a Video or so on Thursday.
At this point we deserve at least an unnerf reveal schedule...
game dev: *tweets a single 2-letter word*
flux: yoo let's make this a whole article!
It looks funny, yes, but we have been getting soooo little information this month that I would not blame Flux.
Even friggin new Hearthstone Year announcement is late if you look at previous years (it always appeared around 28. February or so)... so yeah.
I wish they would just tell us what they are going to do. Like cool that’s staying dead but why don’t you just... tell us what’s getting unnerfed instead
I'm fully convinced we were meant to have some sort of announcement earlier in the month that got cancelled (for an unknown reason).
They're trickling out little bits of information through odd sources, or at odd times. The announcement of Sludge Slurper's unnerfing was on the official Hearthstone Twitter far off from any usual announcement time - I don't think it was even on an hour. The initial information that we'd be seeing any cards unnerfed at all; this information about The Caverns Below; the Battlegrounds data we've been receiving; it all comes from Dean's personal Twitter account, seemingly at random.
Unfortunately that means we have these sporadic little hints at a larger announcement that tease us and can't really be followed up on, because they have that larger announcement planned.
Totally agree. Let's get some proper info about what's going to be happening
I agree, I am getting pretty anxious to see what is being reverted.
