Unless my logic is faulty, this is significantly better for the player playing it as they can use up all their mana before playing it, but their opponent just loses the Mana Crystal. Might buy Zoolocks an extra turn against control, which is huge.
I was not a fan of this card until I heard it taunt
Maybe zoo runs this just to get an extra turn before AOEs hit
I can see this being useful in zoo builds in correlation with Mojomaster Zihi to control the mana reserves of your opponent and keep them from dropping mana extensive cards.
I can also see people using this along with Gnomeferatu to be extra annoying
