[Duels] Drek'Thar Shaman Boars (12 wins)
- Unknown Shaman
- Wild
- Casual
This isn't going to be the most consistent deck, but it is an easy 12-win deck when you pull the right rewards and is a lot of fun. Obviously the strategy revolves around using Drek'Thar's War Command's Hero power to tutor your way to Elwynn Boars and its accompanying Northshire Farmer. The first few matchups are tricky but definitely win-able. You'll only have one Boar in your deck, but it's possible to win with or without the sword, but I'm generally still trying to win with the sword and just freeze to control the game until I can. Don't forget that Brilliant Macaw can copy a Farmer's battlecry to generate another 3 boars.
When it comes to early rounds, you need to protect your boar - meaning don't play on unless you have another backup in hand/deck or have a farmer to copy it. Unless you're really close to getting your 7 boards I'd also hold off on Spirit Echo unless there are at least 2 boars or a boar and a farmer. The general strategy is to try to build up boars in the early game and control the board mid and late game via freeze and life-gain until you land the sword.
Pool 1 Passives:
1st Pick: Crystal Gem
2nd Pick: Mysterious Tome
3rd Pick: Recycling / Plaguebringer / Rocket Backpacks
4th Pick: Mending Pools
Pool 2 Passives:
1st Pick: Bronze Signet / Mummy Magic (or Special Delivery if you got Rocket Backpacks)
2nd Pick (ultra rare so unlikely): Shadow Casting / Stargazing
(unless you were lucky enough to get the 3x boar card pool you should probably abandon the boars strategy if aren't offered any of these - maybe you could try to make Ring of Black Ice work but I'd be pretty skeptical)
Card Rewards:
Obviously you're praying for a bucket of cards with Elwynn Boars if there is one take it. If not, then avoid all neutral minions with 3 mana or less at all costs. This is critical, you'd rather have bad cards than good cards that get in the way of being able to tutor for your boars and their companions. When they aren't available then I recommend leaning towards spells over minions to give you some board control and a lower mana curve. One thing to note is that keeping a hand of 10 cards or fewer can be difficult when you're spamming War Commands and have Bronze Signet, so be wary of getting high cost minions unless they offer excellent board control (ala Snowfall Guardian).
Note: I used to run [Hearthstone Card (Zola the Gordon) Not Found] but I found it's actually best to limit the number of neutral minions to 2 as it really improves your odds of tutoring into the boar (having your first two tutors hit 2 non-boars is game-over in the early rounds).
Mulligan Guide:
The best case scenario is to have a boar in your starting hand. If so throw back a farmer so can you tutor into it and keep cards that are good early game board control. When you don't have a boar in your starting hand throw back everything except the farmer (you keep the farmer so you can guarantee that you'll tutor into the boar).
