Big Rogue

Wild Hearthstone has thousands of cards, and a wide variety of possible decks. This incredible deck diversity is sometimes lost when only looking at the few decks common in the highest ranks. Wildest of Wednesdays is a series aiming to highlight a different off meta deck each week with an in depth guide into its strategy and gameplay. The decks are selected for having interesting synergies and using rarely seen cards.
Well this is the winner of last week's poll, so let's get into it. Big Rogue is a Big deck that uses a lot of Deathrattle cards and the Alterac card Snowfall Graveyard to double their effects. It uses Kobold Illusionist to get big minions into play early, often with the help of Sketchy Information. This version of Big Rogue also includes a Secret package so you can play Shadowjeweler Hanar for some fun secret play with secrets from all classes that are actually quite powerful and can really snowball the game to complement your big minions. Overall, if you like other Big decks or if you like Deathrattles in particular, give this one a try.
Big Rogue as an archetype was invented by Dane a couple years ago.
Now, let's get into a guide on playing the deck. It's going to go through major overarching strategies to keep in mind, how to mulligan, gameplay tips on key synergies, and card choices.
Strategies
You want to play secrets early game for defense and draw, and then transition into either a Hanar strategy or big minion strategy. One or both of those combined can win you the game by sheer minion pressure and board domination.
Big Minions - Kobold Illusionist can get a 1/1 copy of Silver Vanguard out, and then if you use effects that trigger its Deathrattle you can get 8 cost minions out early. You then use these big minions to dominate the board and win.
Secret - Shadowjeweler Hanar can keep discovering secrets that will help you win by tempo and value, in addition to possible combo disruption.
Big Rogue uses Kobold Illusionist to get 8 cost minions out early, and combines this with Shadowjeweler Hanar and secrets to be able to win games early while your opponent can't handle such big minions. It can also win lategame just by playing big minions on curve and activating their Deathrattles multiple times.
This highlight shows how powerful this deck can be.
Mulligans
- Keep Sketchy Informations, and Kobold Illusionists if you don't have any.
- Keep Preparation and a Counterfeit Coin if you have a Sketchy Information.
- Keep Shadowjeweler Hanar if not against an aggressive deck and especially if you also have Cheat Death to keep to combo with it, you can also keep a Counterfeit Coin in this case.
- Keep Snowfall Graveyard if you have a Sketchy Information or Kobold Illusionist.
Gameplay
The key to playing this deck well is to play your Necrium Vials and Snowfall Graveyards at the right moment.
Below are gameplay tips regarding many of the synergies in this deck and how to use them effectively.
Sketchy Information will always draw Kobold Illusionists if they are in your deck.
If you see that you are going to play Kobold Illusionist or Sketchy Information, you may want to play Shadowjeweler Hanar if he's in hand and discover a few secrets first so that Kobold will hit a big minion.
If Snowfall Graveyard is played, all Deathrattles trigger twice meaning that Necrium Vial will trigger a Deathrattle 4 times. You can use this on Silver Vanguard to get a huge board out, on Kobold Illusionist to get a bunch of 1/1s, on Mo'arg Forgefiend to gain a ton of armor, or on Sneed's Old Shredder to get a large board.
Use Kel'Thuzad wisely, and kill off your own 1/1s if you can to get them resurrected as full statted minions. He's especially good to combo with Taunts.
Card Choices
This section is going to go through the main packages of cards in the deck. Each package has cards that help the deck with a specific goal. When playing the deck, it's useful to know what purposes each card serves and what other cards in the deck have synergy with it or help achieve the same purpose. This section might also be useful if you're interested in the reasoning for why each card was included in the deck.
