We've got more Darkmoon Faire Mini Set card reveals to share and this time they are for Priest and Paladin.
Lightsteed - Priest Rare
Quote From Fluxflashor Whoa. Why does it feel like Battlegrounds just entered constructed? That's probably a crazy amount of buffs talking. One of my guilty pleasures in Hearthstone is mega-healing and when combined with the silly resurrection package Priests have been running for a while now, it makes for some 11/10 entertainment.
The obvious downside to this card is that we don't get to make use of the free Circle of Healing for those super value plays unless we clear the enemy board. We've also got a couple of fun healing cards that would work well here rotating very soon - Holy Ripple and Sandhoof Waterbearer - which makes the window of excitement on this steed much smaller.
Forget the negative though, what makes me most excited about this card is that we don't know what the game is going to look like in 2 months with the revamped classic set. Will Priests get even more healing ability? Does Holy Nova, which is clearly going to be amazing with this card, get to stay? I can't see Blizzard printing it to have such a short lifespan. The cards are designed far in advance with knowledge of what is to come which makes me think that some heavy heals are on their way.
Will it be used? I think we'll see some fun aggression from Priests in the short-term and with some luck, the next big Hearthstone set and revamp will keep the dream alive. Worst case scenario? Great memes!
Imprisoned Celestial - Paladin Rare
Quote From Avalon As the leak stated, Year of the Phoenix exclusive mechanics are making a comeback in this mini set. As any other Dormant minion, Imprisoned Celestial is overstated to compensate for the wait, but when it awakens, it does not provide an immediate upside. While the Spellburst effect is pretty relevant, you can't just jam it on the board like [Hearthstone Card (Imprisoned Watcher) Not Found], but you have to build your own board in the meantime so that you'll be able to get as many divine shields as possible. Paladin does not have problems of triggering the effect immediately (First Day of School, discounted Libram of Wisdom) but it will take a bit of preparation to use this card at its fullest potential.

Lightsteed's greatest strength is that its a 3/6 for 4. And given how bad the other options are this is a decent amount of stats which also comes with a very strong upside. But since Circle of Healing is complete rubbish, priest still cant draw for shit, and filling the board with minions aren't typically how priest plays their game, this card is liable to just sit on the sidelines for all the potential it has.
Imprisoned Celestial - Powerful? yes. Useful? Very iffy. It stays dormant for 2 turns then gives you the option of giving away divine shield assuming you've got a spell. So you're setting up for a turn 5 play, but its entirely predicated by you flooding the board with divine shield-less minions (of which for paladin usually means either board flood by 1 drops or a single 4/6 minion), and then you've got to have a spell or otherwise this card's a complete whiff. In other words, the stars have to somewhat align, or you're essentially playing a 4/5 divine shield on turn 5.
There's potential for this card to be the scariest we've seen so far.
wow that horse is going to make Circle of Healing really strong, won't it.
You don't want to run cards that have no utility outside of a minor combo in a tempo deck. Plus, that would also give enemy minions +2 health.
If you use the Circle of Healing after value-trading, the enemy minions will be dead and won't benefit.
There are quite a few other decent healing effects, like Renew, Power Word: Feast, Neferset Ritualist, Holy Nova and of course the hero power. And there are cards that benefit from healing such as Lightwarden, Injured Tol'vir, Injured Blademaster and anything with Reborn. Whether that's enough I don't know, but I played a Tempo Priest earlier this year that was almost viable, so there is some potential.
Edit:
And then they revealed Rally!. If that doesn't make Tempo Priest viable, the archetype is doomed.
And priest doesnt have the draw to support a tempo deck (certainyl in standard with n northshire)
and just nto enough good minions/synergy for a tempo deck.
If you can snowball hard enough, you don't need draw to win (Hunter style). But when you're just a bit short in damage, tempo Priest indeed fizzles out. I tried adding Galakrond + Kronx as a plan B, but while it allowed me to stay in the game for quite a while, most of the time I still lost in the end.
whoops, I guess you have a point
still, I guess you can just build a huge wall and don't worry about your opponents minions getting more health if they never break the wall or something
That's a first appearance of the word "affect" on a card. Great news for custom card designers!
I already love these mini-sets. Seeing two expansion keywords combined is so cool. It really expands what each keyword can do.
Same. I wasn't really thinking Dormant + Spellburst would be a good combination, but here we ar
