Hakkar Reno Hunter

This is a controllish reno hunter deck with Hakkar, the Soulflayer in as a fun late game win condition.  Hakkar is not a competitive legendary but I tried him in a lot of classes and deck types and this is the deck that worked best for me.  It’s a lot of fun to see your opponent’s deck get more and more Corrupted Bloods.

In general, you want to use your spells to control the board, and Professor Slate is an amazing card in this deck for removal.  Another key card is Deathstalker Rexxar, he can win the game by himself or at least stall it and allow your Hakkar synergy to work.

This deck has few minions so it is easier to discover important synergy pieces, the 2 cards that get you minions from your deck are Master's Call and Stitched Tracker.  Keep these in the mulligan along with these key cards for your Hakkar, the Soulflayer package: Sphere of Sapience, Seeping Oozeling, and Play Dead and Wyrmrest Purifier if you have Seeping Oozeling.  You should also keep Reno Jackson, unless you are vs a slow class like priest, and Zephrys the Great.

Here is how to activate the Hakkar, the Soulflayer deathrattle, you can do it as early as turn 6 with the coin:

Play Seeping Oozeling which will get the deathrattle.  Then, if you have it, use Play Dead on it.

After you have used Hakkar’s deathrattle, you need to make sure you don’t get damaged by it yourself.  Your main way to do this is to use Wyrmrest Purifier which will transform all Corrupted Bloods in your deck into random hunter cards.  Another way is to use Sphere of Sapience to prevent yourself from drawing them and in fact put them on the bottom of your deck.

Sphere of Sapience is a key card in this deck, you should play it as soon as you can to prevent yourself from drawing Hakkar, the Soulflayer.

Coldlight Oracle is used to draw both players more cards which makes it more likely for your opponent to draw a Corrupted Blood.

So, the general gameplan of the deck is to try to get Seeping Oozeling as soon as you can to get Hakkar, the Soulflayer’s effect going, neutralize Hakkar's effect on your own deck, then control the board and win due to increasing Corrupted Blood damage to your opponent.

I hope you enjoy this deck, and if you have any questions or comments about this deck please comment below.

Love the creativity, but man does this deck get stomped by most decks. I played 4 games and only barely won one of them due to a resizing pouch pulling Dragonqueen Alistrasa which pulled a 1 mana Malygos. All the other times I would get the early Hakkar going and then just run out of removal and get beaten down by anything on the board. Professor Slate is the only thing that gives you an edge but he is so easily killed and if you don't find him the damage spells are laughable. Unfortunately hunter just doesn't have very good control options and a deck like this needs to survive a loooong time to get Hakkar bloods into lethal range

Are you playing in diamond mmr level?  What decks did you play against?  It's not going to do well there because of all the fast decks or decks that have extreme aggression like secret mage or kingsbane rogue or have insane boards in the midgame like big priest.  Hakkar, the Soulflayer is a slow win condition so it's more for fun; however in lower mmr (gold or silver especially, but even some in platinum) levels there are a lot of slow value decks that this deck does really well against.  It also does better against combo decks that draw through their deck.  I do wish hunter can get more control tools to make this deck more viable. Professor Slate is great but there are very few options for hunter to control boards and get to the late game so this deck sort of relies on Zephrys and Zombeasts to deal with subsequent large boards.

I'm not smurt enough to pilot this deck. :(  I love the concept, but I habitually make bad decisions!  Either that, or I never stood a chance against a Shaman Everyfin is Awesome Murloc swarm.

That’s just a really bad matchup because hunter doesn’t have any good wide board clears. You need to try to get Zephrys.

Hey, that's a very cool idea! My problem is that I'm missing quite a few expensive cards... one of them is Brann. His only targets are coldlight oracle, stitched tracker and Zeph, so is he really worth it (in this deck)? What could I substitute him with? Thanks for sharing!

He also combos with Deathstalker Rexxar for a greater clear and with Seeping Oozeling to shuffle in 2 Corrupted Bloods at once.  So he is definitely useful but the deck idea will work without him.  I would put in either Wandering Monster or Unleash the Hounds for him as another defensive spell.

Okay, thanks for responding! I could craft the deck as it is, but that would deplete me of all my dust reserves... so... I know this isn't meant to be a tier 1 deck, but is it possible to have fun on ladder? How good is it against secret mage, Raza Priest and big priest? I would assume that Priest games are tough because they often run Sphere themselves and that's really bad for our win condition.

I would not recommend crafting the deck as is at all if it would deplete your dust reserves as there is a new expansion coming soon.  It's fun and I even won against a secret mage using Corrupted Bloods and it worked because they drew through their deck pretty quickly.  However, it has an abysmal winrate overall against Secret mages and Big Priests.  Reno Priests are not as bad bc even if they play Sphere if you get 2 bloods into their deck, their Reno, Raza, Kazakus, and Zephrys are disabled which makes it easy to win just through Deathstalker Rexxar beasts.  I am generally playing this deck in lower mmr where there is a high variety of decks and it does better there, if you are playing this in diamond you will definitely lose a lot.
