Polygon has leaked the new expansion! Wow, what idiots!! The article that was leaked has since been removed.
Here is everything we know so far about Ashes of Outland. (Polygon referred to the expansion as Ashes of Outlands which makes no sense since its Outland and not Outlands)
- The expansion launches April 7.
- Demon Hunter is a new class and we've got 20 cards to showcase.
- Priests are getting an overhaul.
- Outcast, the new Demon Hunter Keyword gives the card a bonus if it is cast while being the right-most or left-most card in your hand.
New Legendary Card - Kael'thas Sunstrider
Quote From Polygon The first piece of Ashes of Outlands will drop on Tuesday, March 17. Players can log in and receive the Legendary card Kael’thas Sunstrider. When Kael’thas is on the board, the third spell cast every turn is free.
New Class: Demon Hunter
Hearthstone is getting a new class - The Demon Hunter! Illidan Stormrage is finally getting his time in the spotlight.
- Hero Power: Demon Claws, a 1-Mana ability that grants 1 Attack
Quote From Chadd Nervig [Demon Hunters] don’t have much in the way of card generation, but you can run them out of resources,” says Chadd Nervig, game designer on Hearthstone. “They have card draw, but not generation, so you can fatigue them. They’re susceptible to hard removal. They also just don’t have much in the way of hard removal themselves; if they want to clear a big minion of yours, they have to use their face to do it. They don’t have any assassinate or polymorph cards.
Demon Hunter Cards
These are all the cards revealed so far for the Demon Hunter class.
Basic Demon Hunter Cards
Ashes of Outland Demon Hunter Cards
Demon Hunter Tokens
Priest Overhaul
Priests are getting an overhaul!
Quote From Chadd Nervig There were aspects of their basic and classic sets that we weren’t planning to support, so they were sort of misleading Priests and taking up space, Things like Prophet Velen, which is an iconic Legendary for Priests, sounded really cool … but really was only used for [one-turn kill strategies], which we weren’t planning to support. These cards are now in the Hall of Fame, and can be used in the game’s Wild mode.

At first you had my curiosity, but now you have my attention Blizzard.
So excited for a new class, Following the success of last year in terms of storytelling and Blizzard making actual progress as a company and doing a lot of things right, the priest overhaul was definitely needed and it’s about time too
I hope that Paladin gets a rework too, cuz oh boy. That Holy Nova just killed my heart. It's a straight up better Consecration.
Except it doesn't hit face… none of the reworked spells do. So it's not exactly better than Consecration.
Oh, didn't see that it doesn't do damage to enemies, but enemy minions now. Still, while I had a couple games where Consecration was lethal, it's still super underpowered.
Yeah, for the amount of powerful effects that early game cards have, and the health of 3-drops, Consecration and Holy Nova seem pretty weak right now.
Exactly, it doesnt make sense, they have to do something with Consecration
Not quite, because thew changed Nova to not hit the opposing hero. Besides, the Fireball / Mortal Strike has always shown us not all classes are created equal, and in this case I am happy for Priest AoE to be better than Paladin's. Also, Consecration hasn't been made any worse by this...
Buuut, all those damage dealing spells in the core sets for Paladin stick out like a sore thumb when you realise the class hasn't had a single one in all the years since.
My body is ready.
Otherwise, I wonder what other priest cards vill be HoF:d except Velen (which i recently opened...). Will we still have Inner Fire and Divine Spirit to combo with..? So far I really like the changes like steal prist getting a boost. I also see that Batterhead (for Demon Hunter) and Power Word: Tentacles are being remade...
Happy to see Illidan also, can't wait to see what else is in store for him. Probably my favorite character/class from Wardraft 3. :)
There is absolutely no way the Divine Spirit - Inner Fire combo survives in standard. Since there is no new common card I guess Inner Fire is sticking around, but I'm sure Power Infusion is the replacement for Divine Spirit.
Sounds fair. I'd like to see Inner Fire stay as I think the combo archetype should be a viable option for Priest. Divine Spirit on the other hand could be problematic so if one of those cards are going to HoF it should be DS. As long as you can play other Priest decks than that life-draining resurrect BS...
Kul Tiran Chaplain is powerful enough to make Tempo Priest have a chance. I like the changes to Holy Smite and Holy Nova. Smite is now arguably the best early game removal spell, most likely an auto include in any Tempo Priest deck. Nova was abysmal at 5 mana, at 4 mana it is fair, but not op.
Even though the surprise has been spoiled, it will still be so much better to see what Blizzard has in store for the reveal. I already predicted the expansion as soon as that streamer said we were "not prepared" for all the changes. So learning a day early what it is does not ruin anything.
I feel this early leak is just the tip of the ice burg for what is in store for tomorrow. Still hyped, and excited to have something to look forward to other than more terrible news.
Everyone stay safe out there, and wash your hands!
I'm interested to see the Classic cards for Demon Hunter. As of this writing, there's only Basic and Outland cards. After looking through all the Demon Hunter cards, the Class feels very aggro and proactive. Looking forward to trying them out.
I feel some type of way about these priest changes. I'm not exactly sure how that is either. Some of the cards look good, but Power Word: Shield is eviscerated.
There will still be classic cards for the DH, right?
Almost all the cards for the new class look OP af.
Flux, can you make discussion page for those new Priest cards too?
Priest will get proper thread treatment tomorrow. Waiting on some additional details to see how we want to go forward with it to make stuff as clean as possible.
I don't get people saying that demon hunter won't be playable in wild because of all the cards released in hearthstone's history. It's not like every card in wild is being played. Wild is pretty much just standard with harder to change meta. If the new cards can compare with the wild meta, then it will be viable.
Debatable. Wild Meta is more diverse but also plagued with some very broken decks like Cubelock, Jade Druid, Quest Mage and Reno variants.
In my opinion, odd demon hunter could be pretty strong, assuming that the upgraded hero power gives +2 Attack.
