Classically Trained - Card Design Competition Discussion Thread

Submitted 4 years, 7 months ago by

Competition Theme: Classically Trained

This week we're recruiting people to our favourite classes!

  • You must create a Legendary Class minion or Hero card.
  • Your Legendary must be a character who already has a Neutral Legendary card (but not a Class card)
  • Your character can take any canon form, even if they haven't appeared as such in Hearthstone
    • For example, any Dragon may appear in their human form (assuming they have one)
    • We will also accept characters who stray outside of canon, but make sense in the context of an expansion - for example, Ragnaros, Lightlord

This week linkblade91 wants us to imagine what some Legendaries would be like if they were a little less Neutral.

As always, I can be reached through Discord or here on the site via PM if you have any issues to report.

Competition Phases

Here are the phases of this card design competition

  • Submission Phase: Starts on Mon, May 4 17:00 EDT (GMT -0400). Runs until Sat, May 9 17:00 EDT (GMT -0400)
  • Voting Phase: Starts on Sat, May 9 17:00 EDT (GMT -0400). Runs until Sun, May 10 16:00 EDT (GMT -0400)
  • Finalist Phase: Starts on Sun, May 10 17:00 EDT (GMT -0400). Runs until Mon, May 11 17:00 EDT (GMT -0400)
  • Winner Selected: After finalist voting concludes and we validate votes.

Here we go; let me start things off :) I'm pretty happy with this one:

It's a reference to The Lich King, of course. Being a Pure Paladin card represents Arthas' zealotry, while the effect represents the Culling of Stratholme, a major moment in his character development (i.e: his descent into madness).

Getting our first post. DAMMIT, LINK!!!

Literally the only reason I gave him a Burgle Rogue effect (and put him in Rogue) is because of his original card having a Burgle Rogue effect.

The only problem with this card I see is Archmage Antonidas. If you managed to get him and cast one spell, then you've won the game because you have infinite 0-Cost Fireballs.

heres my ideah for a card

Hakkar, the loa of blood: 10 mana 12/12 warlock card with battlecry: for the rest of the game all characters take double damage

even though this isnt exacly like  Corrupted Blood which hakkar is famous for  i didnt want to rip off Hakkar, the Soulflayer's effect

    TOTAL CORRUPTION

    TOTAL POWAAAAAAA

This seems lopsided. It's extremely powerful if you have a board, but it's extremely bad if you don't. Because it costs 10 mana, you're spending your entire turn worth of mana to play this one card with a symmetrical ongoing effect, and if you don't have any other minions, your opponent gets to benefit from it first, which may result in killing you

Can we submit token legendaries like Thaddius or VOLTRON?

I make bad custom Hearthstone cards sometimes.

    Here's my first idea:

I love Deathrattle Hunter and was happy to see it supported again in Ashes of Outland. Sylvanas was a natural pick for this, I hope she isn't too boring because of the alternate hero skin. I'm still thinking about the name and looking for art, but what do you think so far? Is Battlecry AND Deathrattle too much? I don't want her to be beaten by Teron Gorefiend... is she too similar to him?

I notice I am confused. Something I believe isn't true. How do I know what I think I know?

As in, make a class card out of VOLTRON? I would say no, because they are not collectible. For the same reason I would say no to Chromie, even though she is technically a Neutral Legendary card.

    This should be interesting!

Edit: Making a Sylvanas Hunter card seems too obvious. I redact this idea.

You should specify 'other', because as it stands Leper Gnome + this will OTK your opponent.

Do tri-class cards count? Also, any other feedback on this would be nice. :)

    This is my idea:

The idea would be to use him in a Plot Twist / Fel Lord Betrug Deck to shuffle more Legendaries into your deck. It can also take enemy Legendaries, which I think would be fun. It could also be used to double up on Late game win conditions like N'Zoth.

We're fine with Tri-class cards, as they are technically class cards despite their Neutral coloring and location in your Collection. Slight bending of the prompt's intent, maybe, but still within the barriers of the competition.

As for feedback, wouldn't you accomplish something similar by just summoning another Jade? This is technically worse than that, because you don't gain another body like you do with Aya Blackpaw. The flavor overlap is significant, as well, considering there already is a Tri-class card focusing on Jades.

After reading up on the Demon Hunters, it occurred to me that Gruul was really done dirty by his Hearthstone representation, so here's my attempt to rectify that.

It is quite situational, but would be a useful combo disrupter when things like Malygos and dragon Priest are strong, and generally a good turn 7 play when dragons are all over the place, like today.

I was sure there was a card like this I could look to for help on wording and statline, but either it doesn't exist or my Google-fu has failed. Comparing to cards like Dirty Rat and Swamp King Dred indicates it should be over-statted, but I feel like more stats would make it too strong, lower cost would make it too powerful for aggro, and any less would make it too weak for such a situational effect. What do you guys think?

Everyone else is going for incredible lore related characters, while my mind went to revamp trash meme legendaries!

I'm not overly happy with either, and I'll probably come up with something completely different overnight, but for now... thoughts? Cards are based (loosely!) on Sergeant Sally and Nexus-Champion Saraad

Feedback! (Take with a large dollop of salt. I'm fairly certain I fluked my way into winning previously)

Xarkkal - Nice DR hunter finisher. It's a archetype I really enjoy, and this would fit nicely. It's not too strong, but would work with a deck built around it, exactly how a legendary should be. My only concern would be this idea has come up twice in the first 4/5 posts, and may struggle to stand out. Out of the two, I prefer this, but it will probably suffer the same way the Rogue "go dormant" secrets suffered.

anchorm4n - See Shadows comments regarding this activating itself for lethal loops with several different minions. I don't think she overlaps Teron enough to make it redundant, but featuring in the same set might be a little much. My main concern would be this idea has come up twice in the first 4/5 posts, and may struggle to stand out. It will probably suffer the same way the Rogue "go dormant" secrets suffered.

Demonxz95 - The card that would push Thief Rogue into the meta. Maybe. One of the main drawbacks of Thief rogue has been getting lumbered with expensive cards that aren't really worth the mana cost, so they just sit in hand. Admittedly, this is less so now a lot of the thief cards are discover, rather than pure random, but it can still be a problem. My main concern is the number of cards that can push this from "really good in the right deck" to "horrible cheesy unfun way to lose. You flagged Antonidas, but imagine getting an Evocation with this? There's other problematic cards, that aren't so powerful, but cards like Cabalists Tome or Devour Mind might even feel like too much. I really like the idea, but it might be a little too problematic. Maybe first card? Or costs 1, that way multiple cards can be prepped or coined out, but you couldn't pull a ridiculous swing turn.

Linkblade91 - Love it. Flavour is there and would add something massive to an archetype that is already looking like it's going to be forgotten. I really don't have much to add.

It's not really a good idea for a class card to be a very specific tech option

I'm sure there will be many Gruul cards, so I'm probably gonna lab up some other stuff, but here's what I've got for now. Is it too simple for a Legendary?

I mean, if the opponent has no dragons it's still a 7 mana 8/8. I feel like DH would be happy with that worst case anyway. But regardless, if you take this in the context of an Ashes of Outland card, which comes at a point when almost every class except DH is playing dragons in some form, I feel it is fine.

I didn't really mean from a balance standpoint, but rather from a card design standpoint. By making a tech card a class card, it's taking up a class card slot, when that slot could instead be used for general or archetype support for that class. You're also only giving that one class an out in the event that Dragon decks do become a part of the meta. Imagine if they made an anti-Secret card for a class instead of making it Neutral? It would make no sense to put it there.

That and also what happens when Year of the Dragon rotates out, and we didn't get many more Dragons this year? Exactly.

I know Kael'thas has only been out for a bit, but his smile made me think of Corrupted minds so much this art just screamed "Freeze you to death". The card bascially is a mage exclusive Kael'thas that forces you to have previous setup in order for their to be a benefit. The only 0 cost spell with Freeze is Freezing Potion, and running 2 potions for this seems like a stretch. Thoughts?

And it's a Knights of the Frozen Throne card, so it would technically exist before the original Kael'thas (although I know most people don't use watermarks that way).

As for the card, I like the idea of a Freeze Mage card that actually does something different than just "stall, stall, stall". Its combo potential is maybe, slightly scary though.

I'm gonna say this now, I swear this card has been made but for Warrior and I think either Regis or Trump reviewed it as well. The text and idea of the card look way too similar. I don't have the time atm to check which video it was in, but from what it looks like, it's just a copy paste for Demon Hunter which I find really infuriating. Again, I may be wrong, but I'm certain this card with the exact wording has been made and it's just submitted for the Demon Hunter class instead.

    Here's my thoughts @Conduit

Manastorm - Honestly, I love it, but I do think in order to fit the flavor, it should be "At the end of your turn, your opponent casts random spells equal to the amount you cast this turn." You could possibly keep the original mana and cost that way which i highly recommend seeing Blizzard attempts to keep original cards in mind when making copy cards (i.e. Reno and Relicologist Reno, Ragnaros and Lightlord Rag, Ysera and Unleashed Ysera, Alex and DQ Alex, etc. Not all remakes are the same like Elise and Brann, but they keep a close connection to their originals).

Gruul - It's a really weak tech card. The flavor fits, but a 7 mana 6/8 with a minimum upside is just bad in normal gameplay.

Goya - I don't know if this was said earlier, but the card is kinda pointless. The +1/+1 on Jade Golems is already a common occurrence and by the time you play this card you already have 2/2s or 3/3s in Jades and 5/5s for the next leave no heavy impact. If you are playing Jade, you are focused on late game value where stats don't matter and the big body itself is the win condition. Your opponent doesn't care if it's a 10/10 or 11/11, they know they are either dying to it, or trading to stay alive another turn. If the +1/+1 difference ever came into play, you've probably gotten terrible jade draw and too late to pull a comeback as a result.

edit: I accidentally read Gruul as a 6/6, but if it's a 6/8, I still don't think the payoff for a technical benefit is worth it.

Here's an old idea of mine, put on a character that fullfills this weeks requirement:

    Original card: Eydis Darkbane

    Feedback:

    Show Spoiler
    linkblade91 - I feel like we're gonna see a lot of Paladin Arthas, but I don't think Pure-Paladin fits him at all…

Demonxz95 - Thematically it fits really nice with Rogue and the Nefarian card. I love it. I would change the wording a bit: 'Your cards from another class cost(0).'

Xarkkal - It's a nice effect, but I think if you make Sylvanas a hunter card (which is the obvious choice) she should do hunter things… This effect feels very neutral to me…

CursedParrot - So much avoidable text! Do you really think this would/should trigger more than once? How about: ' Battlecry: Shuffle 5 different Legendary minions that died this game into your deck.' Also, I feel like this would never be printed with the word 'Legendary' on it, since you basically screw over any player who doesn't have 5 good Legendaries for that ONE VERY SPECIFIC Warlock deck.

MenacingBagel - I feel like Brightwing should be a Druid card. He could transform minions into whisps instead!

Inconspicuosaurus - Not much to say. Tech card as class card has been mentioned. Almost the exact same card has been made and posted on reddit before. It had pretty good rating, too.

shaveyou - Sally seems like she got a promotion! I like her! Maybe 'Rush, Deathrattle: Your opp…' looks better on the card. Right now the text has a weird shape =S  Saraad just seems boring to me. Do we really need more random spells in mage?

Pokeniner - This + Evocation (or just a handful of spells) is completely busted. In a spell-heavy deck…If your opponent EVER goes wide you punish them hard!

Conduit - I prefer the 4 mana version, but I'd keep Millhouse' iconic 4/4 statline.

Here is my idea, something to go along with Fire Plume's Heart in Un'Goro.

My favourite is definitely the Medivh set. Loatheb just seems weaker than the original, Yogg-Saron giving weapons feels a bit weird, and Patches' weapons should probably be a 1/3 so that it's never a dead weapon. But I'd just say stick with Medivh, that card is really good

@Linkblade91, This card is amazing. I really like the flavor and mechanics. I would vote it 5 stars simply because I can't think of any way to make it better. Well done.

@Demonxz95, I don't really like this card. The balance is okay, but the flavor is lacking. I can't really connect with this character or get a feel for him by looking at your card. I don't know exactly what to change, but as it is now it feels more like a mechanic than a character, if you know what I mean.

@DecentOfDragonsOP, I agree with what Demonxz95 said, this card either gives you a ton of burst damage right off the bat, or you just die. I don't think there is really a "right way" of making this card. You are either ahead and you play this and win, or you are behind and this is just a dead card in your hand.

@anchorm4n, I like the concept, but the card is flawed. For one, as ShadowOfSense pointed out, you would get infinite Deathrattle triggers. And also, Feign Death is a similar card which, as far as I know, never saw much play because it was too hard to set up a board big enough to get enough value. This is the same thing but for 5 more mana. I would keep the deathrattle theme, but make it something other than just "trigger deathrattles" because that idea has been done a bunch before.

@Conduit, About Manastorm, I think the 2 mana 4/4 version fits better thematically, but if you don't cast any spells this is just a 2 mana 4/4 no downside. I understand this is a Mage card and Mages cast spells, but I do think the downside is a bit too hit-or-miss, you either drop this on turn two and get a huge tempo swing at no loss, or you cast this alongside The Coin or a secret and all hell breaks loose. I don't think a yogg-saron this early in the game is very healthy, I would either keep the strong early game minion with a downside thing, or keep the "random spells" thing, but both paired together feels like too much too early in the game.

@CursedParrot, I like the idea of re-making Prince Malchezaar, but I don't like the card as it is now. It doesn't feel very relistic, it just feels like the Prince Malchezaar we have right now only with targeted Legendaries. I would keep the shuffling mechanic because that is cool and under-used in Hearthstone outside of Rogue, but I would tone down the ability to be a bit more simplistic.

@Menacing Bagel, This is an interesting card, I think there is a lot you can do with Brightwing. But I don't really like the "transform them into 1/5 sheep until the end of their turn" for two reasons. One, the text is kind of cluttered. It is a simple idea but it doesn't translate well into the text box. And two, it just feels weird. Transforming until the end of turn is an unusual thing, and making it a 1/5 sheep also just makes it feel unusual and unrealistic.

@Inconspicousaurus, I agree with Demonxz95 that tech cards shouldn't be class specific. To keep the "dragon hunter" theme without making him just tech against dragons, you could make him summon a dragon token for your opponent, and they could have some sort of synergy or specific interaction or something.

@Pokeniner, I really like giving mage some way to utilize Frozen minions, but I am a bit scared by the raw combo potential here. Something like "add random spells to your hand" or "cast random spells" or "draw cards" may be better, but ultimately I am not really sure what is best.

@TheHoax91, I am not sure about the Deathrattle thing. It is a cool idea, but in practice I don't think it adds anything positive to the game. Mechanically, this is virtually the same as just "gain 15 extra armor". To make it fit more thematically with the original Eydis, I would make the battlecry something that wants you to cast spells on your minions.

@MrRhapsody, I like Medivh the best, it is very flavorful. I am not too familiar with Medivh's story, but I know he was sucked into some kind of magic portal or something and he came out all dark and purple and stuff. Turning that story into a prime minion is genius.

    Feedback time!

    Show Spoiler

Demon - I'll repeat what I said on Discord: I like it, just think the 4/12 stat-line is weird.

DescentOfDragonsOp - I agree with Demon, the card is very polarizing. If you're ahead already this card is a guarantee winner; if you're losing this is a death-sentence. I'm not sure it's a good idea.

anchorm4n - As others have said you really need it to say "other friendly minions" to avoid an infinite loop. A minor gripe I have is the 7/5 stat-line: I think making her a 5/5 like her original iteration earns you flavor points. Other than that, I think the idea is kind of…I don't know, obvious?

CursedParrot - I think the idea is neat, while still coming back to the original Malchezaar. 5 dead Legendaries is a high number to reach, but again it calls back to the first iteration so I don't begrudge it.

MenacingBagel - This is a major departure from the original Brightwing, but then again so was Dinotamer Brann so it's not an immediate deal-breaker. I'm not a fan of the stat-line because I think it should try to stay close to the original iteration, and I think making the Sheep tokens 1/5s is weird; all sheep-producers make them 1/1, so why stop now? I guess that's to make them more sturdy and this Brightwing less overpowered, but it's still a weird incongruity.

Inconspicuosaurus - I agree with Demon: Legendary "tech cards" are a feel-bad idea.

shaveyou - I was trying to come up with a Paladin version of Sally myself, but I gave up on the idea. I think this version is a little strange: making your opponent's cards cost more is a weird thing for the Paladin (I know Rebuke exists, but still), and attaching it to a Deathrattle is especially weird. I prefer Saraad, who connects back to his original iteration better while still being different and new

Pokeniner - While twisting Kael'thas like that is cool, making him a KFT card well before the vanilla Kael'thas card existed is very off-putting for me. Also like Demon said the Combo potential is high, wherein your opponent controlling the board suddenly becomes a detriment against them because each of their Frozen minions contributes to your cost-reduction. Throw down some Wisps or Snowflipper Penguins first, Freeze them too, and suddenly your Pyroblasts are free. The card is probably okay, but I hate Combo so I'm definitely biased against it.

Conduit - I prefer the 4-mana Millhouse if-only because I would prefer not to give my opponent access to the random spells, but I will admit that the 2-mana version better captures the persona of Manastorm. I will say that, if you go with the 4-mana version, he should be a 4/4/4 to better match his original iteration.

TheHoax91 - Obviously a much better Ice Block, but it's a Legendary so hopefully that's okay. The Hero Power is crazy-strong, though, so I'm not sure how I feel about that. My main concern is that, combined with something like Awaken the Makers, Priests would just become impossible to kill.

MrRhapsody - I agree with Conduit: I think the Medivh/Medivh Prime combo is the best one. The Mage summoning random Demons is weird, to be sure, but it connects back to Medivh's lore as being possessed by a Demon and whatnot, so it makes sense on a thematic level.

Edit: Didn't see you there KANSAS; my bad. I like it, and he probably would have saw more use than Swamp King Dred ever did lol. I just think he should stick with the 5/5 stat-line to better match the original Mukla. I guess I'm kind of a stickler for that, looking over my group-feedback haha

I made a common, rare, and epic card for my last three submissions respectively, so it only fitting that this one is a legendary.

Maiev, the Warden can be used independently or in a stealth Rogue deck, which needs a tool to stop board clears from wiping it out.

Kael'thas, Blood Mage is more of a proof of concept than anything else.  Verdant Sphere works similarly to Build-A-Beast.  The first card offered is a mage spell that costs 5 or less, than the second is also a mage spell that costs 5 or less, except it doesn't include secrets or targeted spells if the first one chosen was.  Does this require too much explanation? I hope this isn't too confusing.  I might exclude secrets from the pool if there are any potential UI issues if this was actually implemented for real.

    FEEDBACK

    Show Spoiler

@linkblade91 - This card is probably win #3 for you. :)

@Demonxz95 - I really like the Al'ar, this would have been so much better than the trash they gave us!

@anchorm4n - This works for Sylvanas. Maybe keep her 5/5 stat line?

@CursedParrot - I don't think this works in it's current form. I don't think it should be Legendary minions that died this game, stick with just 5 random Legendary minions. I just got the idea of "whenever you draw this" effect to trigger the 5 Legendary minion shuffle. Would fit more into the plot twist idea. Draw this multiple times in a game to load up on extra legendaries. Not sure how much better that would be, but just a thought.

@MenacingBagel - I'm definitely not sold on the idea of a 1/5 sheep. I get why, but flavor wise it's wrong. I don't really have any ideas here, sorry I know that's not very helpful.

@Inconspicuosaurus - I don't like it. Would never see any play as a class card.

@shaveyou - I like Special Agent Sally the most between the two. I might just be scared of the idea of Double Puzzle Box from Nexus-King :)

@Pokeniner - I like the idea, but this feels very dangerous. Freeze 10 minions + Evocation = game over. I suggest a different effect, but I'm not sure what.

@Conduit - I agree with the 2 4/4 Millhouse that you seem to have settled towards.

@TheHoax91 - The deathrattle is an interesting idea, but I don't think it works. I would suggest a battlecry that fits the character more.

    @MrRhapsody - Medivh by far.

@grumpymonk - Kael'thas I like, though I don't think it should give spell damage to your hero. Maiev's I don't like, the resummoning feels more like Rez Priest instead of a Rogue card.

Leeroy is a Paladin and he has found his roots once again. As the wise tactician he is, he is always one step ahead of his party. I would love to hear, what you think about this!

    Feedback:

    Show Spoiler
@Linkblade: Arthas fits Pure Paladin really well since he has this sort of fanaticism to him. 100% go with this.

@Demonxz95: Your new version of Nefarian does not have the same potential RNG-Luck as the previous one, thus making it the healthier card of both. Your Al'ar does seem much better than the original version.

@DescentOfDragonsOp: As Gul'dan I would not be fine with taking 4 damage from my heropower and double damage from anywhere. He suffers enough.

@Anchorm4n: Already said by many, you should reword your card, else Sylvanas will trigger her own Deathrattle which triggers it again blablablah… That aside it would be a cool finisher/gameswinger for DR Hunter.

@CursedParrot: It mirrors the original Malchezaar and I like the play with words you did on the portal demons.

@MenacingBagel: Sheeps in Hearthstone normally have a 1/1 statline, if you are worried about making Brightwing to op if the enemy minions turn to normal sheeps, you could raise the manacost by 1 or so, to avoid a combo with arcane nova. But again, you would invest 10 Mana to clear the enemies board and there have already been such cards, so I suppose it is fine.

@Inconspicuosaurus: Does not feel like a legendary at all, more like a random epic tech card.

@shaveyou: Out of the two I like Sally more but I guess it also has to do with my preference for low RNG. I like that Sally is a Mini-Loatheb for everything that does something else the turn it is played.

@Pokeniner: Pyroblast for 0 Mana if there are 10 minions on the board would be the strongest outcome but you can play around it. I like that. I do not mind the KoFT-Watermark but maybe try using a custom one to avoid the potential gripes other people might have, when they see him an an expansion that launched way before he found his way into Hearthstone.

@Conduit: The 2 mana version has the better stats but I like the gameplay on the 4 mana version more. As Linkblade has pointed out, you should propably give the 4 mana Milhouse 4/4 stats.

@TheHoax91: So Eydis does not only provide you a whopping 15 extra HP on top of her DK armor, she also gives access to a scary hero power that is basically a better resurrect spell. This seems too strong to me but it could have to do with my hatred against rezz priest.

@MrRhapsody: I like Medivh the most and I do not see a problem in giving mages access to some demons because we have AoO and its imprisoned demons. Second to him comes Loatheb.

@KANSAS: It is a N'zoth with no requirements but beasts tend to be weaker than DR minions so I think that the balance is right. Finally Mukla is playable.

@Grumpymonk: I like Kael'thas more than Maiev but it is worth noting that Kael'thas already appeared once in this competition. I worry about Maiev being comboed with Akama Prime since this would force you to use two clears, one to get rid of Maiev and one to finally destroy Akama.

@Xarkkal: Blackhand reads as discard all legendaries from your opponents hand which might be very unfun to play against.

Hey y'all, just migrated here after seeing that hearthpwn no longer has comps, after a year or so off Hearthstone- good to see y'all are still at it!

@Demonxz95: I like your new version of Nefarious a lot. At first it seemed overpowered, but there's no consistent way to combo off the effect, so now I can appreciate it as a much needed value-to-tempo finisher for thief Rogue. Al'ar is fine, but not as interesting, and quite possibly too powerful, considering how common freeze effects are.

@grumpymonk: Maiev has my vote, though it's worth noting that there's a fine mechanical line to walk. In Hearthstone, when a Stealth minion attacks, the Stealth breaks before it dies- if this weren't the case, Maiev would allow for infinite trading, which is surely not your intent. If you go for Maiev, it'd be worth making note of this, since otherwise some people may misjudge the card. Considering its niche use, I don't think it would be problematic to increase her health to ensure that the card works against AoE rather than dying alongside.

@Xarkkal: I agree with Demon, the card would be very polarizing by matchup. I like the callback to Blackrock though: it's got some nostalgia to it.

@Feuerrabe: I adore the flavor on Leeeeeeeroy, but- while I recognize that Leeroy is a Paladin- this Leeroy doesn't feel any more Paladin-y than the original, ya feel? On the other side of design, the balance is solid, and it would probably work even with a buff.

    My current ideas:

Any feedback is helpful, but especially on these three criteria: Would it be fun to play with or against? Is it balanced? And does it stand out, flavorwise or mechanically?

Have a good day now, y'all!

Feuerrabe: I love the flavor, but I think this card is underpowered. Wolfrider but summons a 1/1 for opponent while adding an okay card to your hand?  Also, I not sure what makes the card a paladin card, mechanic-wise.

Xarkkal: I like the callback, and it's interesting to see the effect go in a new direction.  That being said, the effect is really swingy and not fun to play against.  It's either going to do next to nothing in some matchups, and or completely win you the game on the spot.  Mass discard is something I would shy away from in a game where players can't interact each with other on the same turn, and I feel like it suits warrior even less than other classes.

Demonxz95: Lord Victor Nefarius: Interesting effect.  Rogue doesn't have many high cost cards and this could serve as a finisher for all the burgle cards you've been holding all game.  The reminder text reads weird to me though.  Is the intent to use coins to chain out a bunch of cards on the same turn?

Al'ar of the Ice: This card seems fine, design-wise.  Is the extra point of health a call back to Ice Rager?  I'm not sure how many people are going to get that.

KANSAS:  I like it.  It's quite powerful and flavorful.  The only issue I have with it is that there is a lot of RNG.

MrRhapsody: Patches the Captain is really powerful is your're ahead and really bad if you're behind.  I would not go with this one.  I like Medivh and Loatheb the best.  There some interesting ways to play and build around these cards.  Yogg-Saron seems underpowered to me and I find it weird to have Mage equip weapons.

TheHoax91:  The deathrattle on the hero card is interesting and what I like most about the card.  I don't find the hero power leading to a fun play pattern.  It seems too powerful and could easily run over opponent without much investment.

Conduit:  I like the first one more.  The second reminds of Archmage Vargoth, but with more RNG.  I would change the templating to  "At the start of your opponent's turn, they cast a random spell for each spell you cast last turn." for the first one  or "At the end of your turn, cast a random spell for each spell you've cast this turn." for the second.  It's less words and matches with how Archmage Vargoth does this kind of effect.

Shaveyou: Special Agent Sally is okay.  I don't find it to be all that exciting, but I don't see any issues with it from a design standpoint.  I like that the Saraad casts random spells even though some may not like the idea because it stop stuffs like double Fireball to the face and that king of thing.  I could see if it used to help lesser played decks like big-spell mage instead already powerful existing archetypes.

Inconspicuosaurus:  The card you're looking for is Wild Bloodstinger.  Right now, it reads like a tech card and not all that interesting to me.  Yeah, its flavorful, but most of the time, its just a vanilla 8/8 for 7.

MenacingBagel:  The sheep should be 1/1 or have something else instead of sheep.  Your opponent has to remember that the effect only lasts for 2 turns.  I would try to find some way to make the effect easier to remember.

CursedParrot:  I don't like that it also care about's your opponent's stuff.  It feels more like a priest or rogue thing to do.  I like that it's support for an all legendary deck.

anchorm4n: Double Feign Death?  That seems pretty good to me.  I agree with others that I would prefer to see this as a 6 mana 5/5.

DescentOfDragonsOp:  I don't think there's an easy way to balance this effect.  I see where you're going, but I don't see a version of this that is balanced.

linkblade91:  It is me, or I do I feel like the theme for this week was built around this card instead of the other way around?  It's an easy 5 stars for me.  All around great effect and great flavor.  The only thing I could see is that people might not get the reference and wonder why paladin get Twisting Nether stapled onto the body.

SDhn2a:  Frantic Moroes is fine, balance wise.  It seems hard to take advantage of the windfury for the stewards; they would die to anything that didn't have 0 attack.  For the C'Thun, there's a really wide range of outcomes.  I wouldn't want Lazul's Scheme or Dr. Boom's Scheme, but I would really like Hagatha's Scheme.  I like Y'Shaarj the best.  It is the most distinctive for me design wise and flavor wise.

Ok, it seems that i overestimated the power of having a guaranteed play on T4 if you were to play Leeroy on T3.

What do you think about this new iteration of Leeroy? Now it is leaning towards Dragon Paladin.

Also, Feedback: @SDhn2a: Frantic Moroes even seems a bit underpowered, since the Stewards do not get to benefit from Windfury that much. As for C'thun I think that the flavor is a bit off. I understand that the old god is scheming to break out of his prison but Dr Boom's Scheme would be a strange outcome. I have to agree with grumpymonk. Yshaarj, Redeemed seems to be a very good card. It is similar to previous overstatted cards with a downside, the flavor is cool, it has strong ties to its previous iteration and I see what you did there by giving this to Paladin ;).

Thanks for the feedback everyone! Ok, here's my next idea:

The art is a problem. Currently that's the best I can find, but it doesn't fit the card shape very well. So I'm going to keep up the art search. The only art of Subject 9 on the internet is the art from the actual card... Found some better art that should work, I'm going to keep looking to see if I find something I like more, but this should be fine.

    FEEDBACK:

@Feuerrabe - I love the flavor! Something just feels off still when it comes to Jenkins' Party. I think the holding a dragon doesn't do it for me.

@SDhn2a - Moroes I really have troubles seeing as a Shaman card. I'm not a fan of the C'Thun card. Getting a Scheme on turn 6 is pretty bad. Y'Shaarj I definitely like best.

Here is what I have so far.

    Edit: Regarding your feedback.

    Show Spoiler

Kel'thuzad: Thanks TheHoax91 for pointing this out. Because your opponent's minions will unfreeze at the end of your opponent's turn, they won't remain frozen when the start of turn effect triggers again.

Leeroy: I know that there are very few chickens in the game but there's quite a few hunter cards that copy beasts, so you could use that to buff him further.

Bribe: of course you give your opponent a great card, broken even, but if the game is going to end next turn no matter what you just denied a draw for 3 mana. I think that's fair.

    Feedback:

    Show Spoiler

@linkblade91 I love this card, it's got both great design and flavor. In my opinion it's already good for submission.

@Demonxz95 I like the idea of making Nefarious a rogue card with the burgle theme, but I don't like this design that much. It's basically a "Dump your Hand" effect and as you pointed out, it allows for some broken interactions with card generation.

-Al'ar of the Ice on the other hand is a card that I like a lot more.

@DescentOfDragonsOp Too swingy. You win the game if you had board presence, but lose it immediately if you didn't. Not a good use of a "For the rest of the game" effect, as it ends games fast.

@anchorm4n I'd make it a 6 mana 5/5 to stay in line with the original Sylvanas. The design is fine, just not too special.

@CursedParrot I'd try to find different art for the card, to make it unike. Your score will probably suffer if it stays that way.

@MenacingBagel Great card, but I'd reduce the stats to 5/4 or 5/3, given that all other minions will be 1/5s.

@Inconspicuosaurus Too expensive for a Tech Card, especially for Demon Hunter.

@shaveyou Out of your 2 cards, I like saraad more, but I don't think its effect is very interesting.

@Pokeniner The idea is good, but I'd make it cheaper and remove the battlecry.

@Conduit I like the 2 mana version more, but I think the wording should be: "At the start of your opponent's turn, they cast a random spell for each spell you cast last turn."

@MrRhapsody Swamplord Loatheb is my favorite, the choose one really makes it versatile.

@KANSAS Cool card, but the stats should be 5/5.

@grumpymonk Maiev, the Warden can be too powerful with copy effects since she has stealth too. Kael'thas is cool but maybe he's too slow.

@Xarkkal I feel like Blackhand offers too much disruption against combo decks. Maybe change it so it only destroys one legendary and reduce the cost.

Also, my card from last week did pretty poorly so I'd like to receive some criticism on it.

    Show Spoiler

It's meant to be draw denial, since Coin Pouch does nothing the turn you play it.

Coming soon from a HyperTree near you!

Arthas, Mad Price - Seems decent and could see blizzard printing this
Lord Victor Nefarious - Once again seems decent and could definetely see blizzard
printing if they want to push burgle rogue,
Dark Huntress Sylvanas - All other friendly minions
Goya, Mother Of Jade - Way to Weak and little boring
    Portalmasteer Malchezaar - Decent Legendary
Trickster Brightwing - Seems to powerfull if you can kill them withing two turns
which seems very easy you can remove your oppponents board.
Gruul the Dragonkiller - I don't really like this design if your opponent has no
    dragons it becomes a 7 Mana 8/8
Special Agent Sally and Saraad, Nexus-King - I like both of them
Gruul, Dragonkiller - Seems like quite a boring for a Legendary
Frostlight Kael'thas - The Effect of Freezing everything and them reducing the cost
of your spells equal to that seems to powerfull i think you should remove that
    reduce his cost by 1-2
Manastorm, the Mighty - Praise Yogg. I actually like this card a lot.(Both
    Versions)
Eydis - Seems to powerfull for you get an average of 3/3 Each turn and 20 Health
Patches - The Return of Pirate Warrior? Seems Decent.
    Medivh - Is just Yes
Loatheb - Seems a really good counter and quite flexibe.
Yogg-Saron - Seems way to uncrazy for Yogg.
Mukla - I think this card would work way better if it summoned your minions like
    N'zoth.
A'lar of Ice - Way to easy to activate, freezing a single minion is not that hard.
    Maiev - Is just no.
Kaelthas, Blood Mage - Seems Decent
Blackhand - Like Demonxz said it quite unfun
    Leeeeeeeeeeroy - I like it
Frantic Moroes - Way to much damage to face after a turn
C'thun - Really like the flavor and seems like a decent card
    Y'Shaarj - Another flavor win and a decent combo-stomper
Subject 9 - You get 10 Mana worth of spells for free way to powerfull.
    Kel'thuzard, Frost Catalyst - I like it.
Leeroy, Chicken Hunter - In an Expansion where chickens there are a lot of Chickens seems like a great Finisher.
Bribe - The card is way to weak am not even sure it would be played at 1 Mana because if Coin Pouch was a real card almost everysingle deck that could would play it.

My first idea, with Rivendare. His runeblade gave Unholy Aura, which increases movement speed (Rush) and gave life regen (Lifesteal).
Deathrattle minions having Rush works well with the theme of the Scourge.

    Any thoughts?

    Feedback:

    Show Spoiler

Hyperorange: Kel'thuzad seems good, though I'd consider renaming him Frost Lich instead of Frost Catalyst, as that's what he was. Leeroy seems a bit too niche, you'd have to actally put chickens in your deck. You'd rather take the regular Leeroy.

Renolord: Not really feeling the Leeroy here. If you're making him a Hero card, he should have some synergy with Rush or Charge. Gaining Armor through Spell kills on minions seems odd for Leeroy as well as Warrior. Lich is better, though I'd like it better as a Deathrattle than a Battlecry. I'd also consider just using Frost Lich Jaina as the Hero to resurrect into, fits the theme better.

Xarkkal: Subject 9 seems good, though I'd consider making him a little more expensive and buffing his stats accordingly. Being able to play 10 mana worth of Secrets and dropping a 4/4 Beast on turn 5 seems a bit much that early.

Feuerrabe: I'm not really feeling the theme here. If you want to give Leeroy a Deathrattle, for the theme it should involve things like Whelps, Dragon/Whelp Eggs, Chickens or even a card that plays around coming back (as you would rez in World of Warcraft and Leeroy is foolhardy!). Not really getting the Party card.

Thanks for the feedback for Sylvanas! I will keep an eye out if we're headed towards a Rogue Secret situation and correct the wording (woopsie).

    Feedback!

    HyperOrange:

I don't like Kel's effect, but the art is great! I really laughed about Leeroy, though. Nice idea, great flavor! Right now there are 2 chickens in the game as far as I know, so for the price of putting 4 trash minions in your deck, you get a 5 mana 10/10 with charge. I'm really not sure if anybody would go to such lengths but I would award you 4 stars anyways because of the great flavor. *keeps on giggling

    RenoLord:

    Show Spoiler
Sorry, but I don't get how casting spells is in any way related to Leeroy, Warrior or chickens. The idea for Kel is nice, but the name and the hero power don't fit well yet. I'd like you to work some more on this, it looks like a Lord J for mage.

    Xarkkal:

    Show Spoiler
Sorry for posting Sylvanas first. I think your effect was more creative, so I will not submit mine if you want. There are enough interesting characters to come up with something new. [Edit: Ah well, I submitted it. I hope that's okay with you :-)] I like your new card, though. Highlander Hunter might get out of hands with another value machine, but that's certainly not the fault of your card. Well done! Please let me know if you want to jump back to Sylvanas if you so choose.

    Feuerrabe:

    Show Spoiler
I like how the token is stronger than the main card, great flavor! Did you make the token a neutral card on purpose? Balance looks fine, well done!

    SDhn2a:

    Show Spoiler
As the others already said, Y'Shaarj is the coolest of your ideas. Looks balanced but very interesting. I like it!

    grumpymonk:

    Show Spoiler
Maiev looks OP. Without AOE you could simply never touch her and would gain perma-resurrect for stealth minions. That scares me. Kael'thas looks better, but I don't know how people will react to Verdant Sphere. Giving Spell Damage to your hero is a great idea!

    Demonxz95:

    Show Spoiler
I'm a bit nervous about Nefarious and what might be thrown at me on turn 9, so I'm thankful you haven't made his effect a Battlecry. Nice balancing there! Al'ar looks more intriguing to me, though, because you managed to make something useful, even strong out of a trash legendary. Great card!

    KANSAS:

    Show Spoiler
I think it's fair, but quite a highroll card. If you don't happen to get a Tundra Rhino, it might very well end up being a 10 mana do nothing card, which is… risky. If you pull it, it's almost certainly insta win. Hm. Not sure how to rate this.

    MrRhapsody:

    Show Spoiler
I like the flavor of Patches, but it should really be a 1/3 like the others said. Medivh looks the most interesting of your ideas. Have you considered using Elementals rather than Demons? That would fit the mage identity better. And don't forget to add the point at the end of the first line of Medivh the Cursed's card ;-)

    The Hoax91:

    Show Spoiler
I don't understand what happens with the nice art of your card when the original hero gets resurrected. It would be a shame if Edys image wouldn't be seen after she was played. Also, the hero power is way OP. The discover effect alone would be okay, but not summoning.

    Conduit:

    Show Spoiler
The 2/4/4 looks reeeeeally nice. A little bit insane, but nice. Well done!

    Pokeniner:

    Show Spoiler
Great card, nothing to criticize but the "orphan" in the last line.

    shaveyou:

    Show Spoiler
I like that you chose the weaker legendaries. Flavor-wise, Saraad makes more sense… but Sally has the benefit of being raised from meme-status. I'm torn.

    Inconspicuosaurus:

    Show Spoiler
Really cool idea to rework Gruul and make him a Demon Hunter legendary! The balance looks fine to me. Nice work!

    MenacingBagel:

    Show Spoiler
Interesting idea, I'm curious for your final design. As it is, there's a typo ("enemies minions") and I have absolutely no idea if this is balanced. Probably it is, since it is worse than a Twisting Nether after all.

    CursedParrot:

    Show Spoiler
I would strongly advice to look for different art than the original one. The effect looks interesting, though.

    DescentOfDragonsOP:

As the others already pointed out, this could backfire really hard. But since you decide when to play this, it might actually work. Exciting idea, I'm looking forward to see the art for this!

    My goodness! Three pages already!

All of them have the statline of their Classic counterparts, except Xavius, who has +2/+2 both in the main body and tokens.

    Feedback time:

    @linkblade91

    Show Spoiler
Not much to add here. The flavor is superb here, even if the "Destroy all minions" doesn't feel very Paladin.

    @Demonxz95

    Show Spoiler
    Both cards are solid.

Lord Victor Nefarious is a very recognisable character whose effect ties very well to the original Nefarian. That said, an ice phoenix is always cool (no pun intended).

If you go with Victor, I'd change his statline, since 4/12 screams dragonform to me and this card should say human form.

    @anchorm4n

    Show Spoiler
I don't think Battlecry and Deathrattle is too much. That said, the card is a bit bland.

    @Conduit

    Show Spoiler
My favorite of them is the 4-cost Manastorm the Mighty. The 2 mana version is too easy to circunvent by not casting spells.

That said, I'd change the statline of the 4-cost version to 4/4, just to relate it better with the original Millhouse Manastorm.

    @CursedParrot

    Show Spoiler
I like the card, but I find a couple issues with it:
    • It uses the same artwork as [Hearthstone Card (Prince Machezaar[Hearthstone Card (.
    • The effect feels more Priest than Warlock. Maybe you could get away with making it a Priest card if you change the expansion to Outland.

    ) Not Found]) Not Found]

    @MenacingBagel

    Show Spoiler
I don't know if the effect has something to do with Brightwing as a character. Plus, if you keep the tokens as 1/5, you should use a different animal, since Sheep are 1/1 in Hearthstone.

    @Inconspicousaurus

    Show Spoiler
Flavor is fine, but it doesn't really feel like a Class Legendary.

    @shaveyou

    Show Spoiler
I like the flavor of [Hearthstone Card (Agent Sally) Not Found] now turned into a James Bond type, but her effect/statline ties very loosely to her original incarnation and it's not too interesting either. If you find a cool effect that is related to her original one in some way, she should do pretty well.

Saraad, Nexus-King is alright, but his random nature might not be well received.

    @Pokeniner

    Show Spoiler
As other people said, the watermark is slightly offputting, since KFT came before the original Kael. I'd put a custom watermark (the snowflake, maybe?)

    @TheHoax91

    Show Spoiler
The whole hero card with a Deathrattle is very novel… Maybe too much for the new star rating system, which tends to favor conservative designs.

Other than that, you are missing the Hero Power keyword.

    @MrRhapsody

    Show Spoiler
I like Medivh the Cursed a lot, since it ties very well with the expansion. I'd make Medivh Prime a 7 mana 7/7, so that it has the same statline as Medivh, the Guardian.

    @grumpymonk

    Show Spoiler
I like Kael'thas, Blood Mage more, but the fact his effect is kinda confusing and needs an explanation might hinder it.

    @Xarkkal

    Show Spoiler
Blackhand the Destroyer has the same problem as the original one: it can either be very good or terribly bad depending on your opponent's deck. This might not be terrible per se, but the fact it leans on something as arbitrariry as rarity, makes the card not very attractive to me.

Subject 9, Unleashed is nice, but not mind-blowing. If you come up with a name that makes it clear this is Subject 9 before being transformed into an abhorrent experiment, it would improve the flavor by a lot.

    @Feurrabe

    Show Spoiler
Rescuing a fan favorite like Leeroy Jenkins is a good move, but it has room to improve.

As other people noted, the current effect doesn't feel very Paladin-y right now. I would change the Deathrattle to "Give Divine Shield to your other minions", while upping his cost to 4. This way, you would still feature team play in the effect while being more related to the Paladin class.

The other thing that can be improved is the artwork. You could use the trailer of League of Explorers, which has Leeroy in it.

    @RenoLord

    Show Spoiler
I like Kel'thuzad the Lich, but I'd remove the Lich part entirely. Something like: "The first time your hero dies this game, return to life with 5 Health". This reduces the complexity of the card, which is usually not very well received.

Another thing that would help the card in my opinion is using his Necromancer form, since it would be a solid nostalgia bait, plus the effects fits a Necromancer very well.

    @HyperOrange

    Show Spoiler
Kel'thuzad, Frost Catalyst is very solid, but the "Catalyst" part sounds pretty lame to me. Something like "Frost Bringer" would sound better IMO.

    More Feedback:

    Show Spoiler

MrRhapsody - Medivh is very flavorful! I also like Loatheb a lot, except the art…

KANSAS -  Nice idea! I agree with everyone who suggested this should keep the original 5/5 statline.

Demonxz95 - The new Neferaian looks really nice! Al'ar is too strong. Maybe 'Freeze a hero to awaken this minion.' is more balanced? Then you can't just Blizzard on turn 6 and have a threat ready, but you have to go out of your way to Freeze the enemy hero.

grumpymonk - Maiev seems weird. It does nothing against aoe's that deal 3+ damage. And it makes any aoe that deals less completely meaningless. So screw Paladins I guess… Keal'thas is nice and all, but I feel like any card that needs a seperate explanation won't make it in a competition like this.

SDhn2a - Moroes basically has 'Battlecry: Fill the board. If your opponent can't clear it, win the game.' C'thun seems balanced and flavorful, but why is this a Rogue card? It fits better into Priest or Warlock imo… Y'Shaarj seems boring to me. He doesn't really look redeemed either xD

Feuerrabe - The 4 Mana 4/4 Rush was fine without a condition. I'm not a huge fan of the token art though…

Xarkkal - I don't think Subject is terribly OP. Certainly VERY strong, but it has a heavy restriction not only in deck building, but also in hand-size. You probably want to run a secret package with this, which is usually not run in Highlander, etc… I like it!

RenoLord - I like Leeroy's Hero Power. The Hero card seems a bit empty xD Maybe you can spice up the Battlecry a bit? Kel'thuzad is a very expensive worse Ice Block…

HyperOrange - You can basically delete half of Kel'thuzads card text, because it will only trigger IF he survives AND your opponent attacks into a minion that  Freezes the attacker BUT doesn't kill it. This will never happen. Leeroy seems like you could pull off some deranged combos with it in wild…

Wow, i thought people would like Loatheb the most, but apparently Medivh is by far the favorite, thanks for the feedback everyone. And for those who did'nt get why a mage is summoning demons, its for lore reasons. i don't know the story  in detail but to summarize:He got possed by a demon and became demonic and evil.

Seems like a very fun competition - here are some of my first ideas for it:

    Show Spoiler

Trying to go with a theme of Maiev's single-minded pursuit of Illidan, ignoring everything else. Also, trying to give Rogue a bit of a finisher as a weapon class.

Paladin is the only class that has really been pushed toward the Menagerie theme, and it's a theme that has never quite had enough support to work super well.

Technically renamed Sally Whitemane (usually renames get different honorifics, etc., like Reno the Relicologist vs Reno Jackson but I couldn't fit that much with the original name "High Inquisitor Whitemane"). I had a hard time deciding on the expansion icon for her too, and ultimately landed on KFT because Sally eventually becomes a death knight, and because her resurrection abilities feel in line with the undead themes of KFT.

No charge on this charger, but he gets to attack a lot if you can spam Pirates from your hand.

Funny, I just found out that if you use hearthcards on mobile, there are 3 watermarks missing from the custom category, the one for the year of the phoenix among them. I always wondered where you got those. Switching to the desktop version of the site doesn't help either. Just wanted to tell you in case someone else had the same issue.

I like your idea and the lore implications are great (please keep explaining those!). It looks a bit overwhelming at first glance but works together really nicely. Cool card!

Manastorm might not be effective enough. Even if you manage to keep him alive for one turn, the effect is capped at 5 mana spells. Sure, that's something, but not legendary-worthy in my eyes. Harrison has a strong effect but RNG might be the downfall of this card. So I'd go with Xavius, I like his new and creative effect very much. Maybe reduce the stats of the tokens a bit, this could easily get out of hand (2/3/2?).

As you already noticed, this got a bit confusing. Do you want this to switch hero powers after three turns?

I don't like Maiev, but the other two are great! Whitemane reminds me of Res Priest and I haven't seen the application of a Deathrattle as an aura effect, so that could cost you some points. My favorite of your ideas is the Curator. Maybe you can find some better art, but the effect is cool!

Ok, here is some feedback for everybody. I tried to "make edits" when i saw you changed your card, so i hope i got it all :) GL everyone!

    Feedback

    @Linky: good card.

@Demon: good, while a bit dangerous with the right RNG, but i guess that is the point.
Alar - kinda liking it :)

@DescentOfDragonsOp: as Demon already said, way too polarized, if you have board, this is basically a finisher, if you dont have board, you just dont play it, cause otherwise you would kill yourself. Not a great design. Maybe downscale it and the effect, if you want to do this?

@anchorm4n: i expect many a Sylvanas this time around :) As Shadows said, you should adjust the wording, even then, it would be pretty unfun legendary as it would provide a lot of face damage with Toxic Reinforcements and [Hearthstone Card (Leper Gnomes) Not Found] in general.

@Conduit: Goya - as Linky said, having a Jade generator in a deck is always going to be better than having this, and there are generally enough Jade generators that you would want something else in the deck too, so this would just be a waste of a deck slot. I think you should try and come up with a different ability for Jades, if you want to do this. Also, missing a point (full stop) at the end of a sentence, i feel like you had this problem with your previous cards as well, iirc.
Grull - just a big body that might one-shot big dragons, not something you are looking for as a tech imho.
Manastorm - probably the most interesting of the three, not that i particularly like it, but i dont not-like it either :)

@CursedParrot: seems uninteresting and too close to the original, mechanic wise.

@MenacingBagel: i actually kinda like this, but it needs to be adjusted in stats probably and text, the timer on it is largely irrelevant as well, only clutters the card text, tho i guess the 1/5 statline is like this on purpose, so it is harder to kill the tokens off so the minions return to their originals? I think you need to simplify the design.

@Inconspicuosaurus: personally not fan of these "forced attack" mechanics, vs a non-dragon deck this will just be a 7 mana 8/8, dont think DH would run this regardless. Good flavor tho.

@shaveyou: loving both :) tho Sally is the winner here.

@Pokeniner: this card has beyond broken potential, you can already keep the enemy board frozen leading to turn 10 and then you can just discount your spells for up to 7 mana … you dont see a problem?:)

@TheHoax91: i love that you went for an unconventional character, but i personally hate these type of mechanics, because i dont believe those would even work in a first place. When ur dead ur dead, deathrattle wont trigger no more. If you want to do it, it needs to be worded according to Ice Block.

@KANSAS: proper wording is "randomly split among all enemies", the card is just too strong for its cost, very imbalanced. Not to mention Rag is not allowed, as said already.
Mukla - probably too strong no matter what, it will just provide way too much stats. Maybe limit it to two summons and you can specify a cost to make them better.

@MrRhapsody: Patches - Attack; probably way too strong, since it can easilly become a 5/3 or more and you get a 3/2 pirate as well. This should cost at least 6 or 7 mana and even then it would be a pretty nasty finisher for such a deck.
Medivh - i like the card in a vacuum, but thats it.
Loatheb - i actually like this one a lot!
    Yogg - nope.

@grumpymonk: Maiev - if opponent cant remove this, your Stealth minions are immortal, i guess it has low enough health, but it also comes to play pretty early. Might be ok, but very strong.
Kaelhas - just no. Any permanent Spell Damage for Mage is a bad idea, not to mention you can duplicate this card and give yourself even more.

@Xarkkal: Blackhand - very unfun card, pretty easy requirement to just nuke your opponents win condition.
Subject 9 - looks ok, not that i like it … cause Secrets :p … but seems ok.

@Feuerrabe: cute, but not the cleanest design, you can tell by simply not even being able to fit the text properly on the card, Charge should be on its on line, but obviously, that would break the unspoken rule of max 4 lines of text. If you want to pay homage to Leeroy, maybe try something else.
I like the second version, but you have typo on the token, it should be "+1/+1".

@SDhn2a: Moroes - i like the idea of Moroes and cool art, but the effect is just too strong for the cost.
Cthun - i guess its ok, but i dont like it too much.
Yshaarj - cute, tho not sure if too weak, if you can believe it :) But lowering the cost isnt really an option, so i guess its ok.

@RenoLord: Leeroy - not very interesting.
Kelthuzad - change the wording to "Battlecry: The first time your hero would take fatal damage this game, return as a Lich.", otherwise it seems fine. There is for sure some way to abuse it, but it is one of the better "if your hero dies return as X" cards iv seen, which is saying something.

@HyperOrange: super unfun, if your opponent does not have removal, you can keep the board frozen forever and keep destroying it for free. Very imbalanced.
Leeroy - i get the meme, but this is a really bad card :D
Bribe - you need to pay 3 mana to give your opponent ability to store 3 mana for the future and not only that, split among 3 coins, so they can use it as they see fit and probably further some other synergies (hand, spell, whatever). The denied draw actually turns into a pretty decent advantage. So the card is very bad.

@Thez: insanely broken card that fixes all the wholes in Rogue (lack of taunt and healing and aoes=rush), not only it is thematically and mechanically wrong for the class, it is just way too strong as a standalone card.

@Wailor: Manastorm - i like it, tho anything like this in mage will get abused, but still decent card.
    Harrison - i like it.
    Xavius - i like it.
    All good ideas all-round :)

@meisterz39: Maiev - in Standard probably fine, in WIld could be pretty nasty with a big Kingsbane.
    Curator - i like it.
Sally - love the art, can be insanely strong, a single rush/charge minion can clear entire enemy board for example, so like Sally+Boar for 10 mana can clear :D but i guess in the end it is not that much different from Kelthuzad outside of this scenario, so it seems ok.

decided to revamp the idea a bit a lot I'm basing her flavor-wise off of HOTS hence the previous polymorph effect because in HOTS it doesn't reduce health its more of just a stun. Since she's a healer in HOTS I decided to incorporate that into the design and figured this would be easier to balance as well.

Wow. That was some great feedback, thanks a bunch guys! I think I’m gonna submit the 2-mana 4/4 with changed wording. Looking back, it felt more flavourful to the whole theme of the comp. Sorry to everyone who liked the 4-mana card, it was a really tough one in the end.

Again, another big thanks to you all and good luck in the comp! 💜

    :)

So here is my last attempt at a new Eydis Darkbane:

I feel like 9 Mana gain 20 Health is acceptable, especially with this, not grossly OP Hero Power.

Some alternatives I can switch to:

    Some more feedback:

Thez - Thematically its really nice! I just don't get why its a Rogue card…besides that you would like to have some healing as Rogue xD

Wailor - Archmage has potential. I like it. Harrison will only offer you Kingsbane right now. If you add 'from another class' it can give you Twig of the World Tree which Rogue should NEVER have access to. Xavius is definetly NOT my favorite, but I'd suggest making it 7 Mana and remove some stats, so you can curve into it with Overgrowth.

Thanks everyone for your feedback! It seems the main things that bothered people were 1) the 7/6 stat-line and 2) the highroll aspect of it. I fixed both of those things and added some bananas!

I changed this card from being a free extra board to being an extra board that you had to plan ahead for. I tried to make this card at about the same power level as [Hearthstone Card (Beastmaster Leroxx) Not Found] or Zul'jin. Hopefully, this card is powerful, but not too good, and also flavorful enough for people to connect with it.

Replying to above I think Millhouse is too strong, Hogger is great, and Hakkar is probably too weak especially against control decks where you can never play it but may be good against aggro with a plague of flames combo.

How do I balance this properly / other changes?

It's not really a good idea for a class card to be a very specific tech option

Exactly.

Firstly, tech class cards already exist. Flare, to name but one. Secondly, I already explained how it is still a decent card even if its effect doesn't activate. As well as being a 7 mana 8/8 body, it also gives you information on your opponent's hand, which is always useful.

Rotating synergy is irrelevant. You could say exactly the same thing about literally any synergistic card, including all the other dragon synergy added in AoO.

I've never watched Regis and haven't watched Trump in years, and the only community creation stuff I ever look at is on this site and HearthPwn before it. If anyone has made this card before then it is coincidence, made not so unlikely by the fact that "Gruul the Dragonkiller" is just Gruul's full name in WoW lore. I really don't appreciate the way you worded this as a PSA to everyone else that I am apparently a thief and liar to beware of. If you didn't mean it like that, then please reassess your wording and your assumptions.

Honestly, with these two comments I've lost all motivation to take part in this competition. Good luck everyone else.

The difference here is that Flare is a Rare spell card which at least always does something (a cantrip, something Hunter with its low draw can appreciate). This is a class Legendary that you're making into a tech card, a slot which is supposed to be used to define a specific playstyle or deck within that class. It's a much huger waste to make a class Legendary a tech card than it is something like Flare which is a Rare.

Demonxz95, I really like Al'ar of the Ice. It is a lot better than the Al'ar we have now and it is also very interesting from a game-play perspective. Freeze Mages usually want to stall until an OTK, but now they have an unkillable 7 attack beater. Do you use it to trade and stall further? Or do you use it to play an aggro-freeze Mage?

grumpymonk, I like Kealthas a lot better than Maiev. However, it does feel like there is a bit too much going on with the card. Giving your Hero Spell Damage +1 is really interesting since Spell Damage is really bad and this card makes it useful, and the "custom spell" is also really neat. But when you mesh these two ideas together it feels a little cluttered. It is hard to rate the card when it does so many things we haven't seen in Hearthstone before. I would stick with either the Spell Damage or the Custom Spell thing, but not both.

Xarkkal, I like the idea of Suject 9, but putting 5 Hunter secrets into play for free on turn 5 is super OP, even if they are random. I would simply make him add 5 random Hunter secrets to your hand. Making them cost 0 is too much, and I think making them all different is a bit unecessary.

Feuerrabe, I like the card a lot, but I would find better art that matches Hearthstones style more.

SDhn2a, I like Y'shaarj the best, but I would adjust the stats/cost and give him Taunt. A 9 mana vanilla minion that summons a minion for your opponent is just bad. Look at Dirty Rat, this card has way more stats than his cost would imply, and he also has a relevant Keyword to help him out.

RenoLord, I like the idea of Kel'thuzad bringing your Hero back as a lich, but all your opponent needs to do is just deal 5 extra damage to kill you. I would change the card to make your Hero Immune the first turn after you turn into a lich. Also, I am not sure about the Hero Power, it seems like it would be too easy to abuse this to get an OTK which, if you made the change I mentioned, would be inescapable. I would possibly change the hero power to be something powerful, but not something you can turn into an OTK.

HhyperOrange, Kelthu'zad is an interesting card, Leeroy is a funny joke card. I think the more serious card is much more likely to win. The only thing I don't like about Kelthu'zad is that he triggers at the start of your turn which both makes it impossible for him to kill frozen enemy minions, and it also makes him really slow and easy to answer. About your card last time, I didn't really know what to think about it. It was interesting, but ultimately felt useless. You spent 3 mana and a card to give them 0 mana and deny them a card. In the end, I couldn't think of any reason to play this. In most cases, those coins would be more helpful to your opponent than denying them the draw would be to you.

Thez, I don't really like this card. It breaks rogues theme of no Taunts and limited Healing. I would try and simplify the card by giving him maybe one keyword, and one other ability to synergize with Deathrattle minions. As he is now there is just so much going on it is hard to understand how powerful the card is.

Wailor, I like Harrison the best, though you should find some better art. Also, I don't think you need to say "from the past" because that is where most legendary weapons are already. And, legendary weapons that are from newer sets are still usually old artifacts.

Meisterz93, I really like the Curator. I think a lot of people would enjoy having more support for the menagerie thing.

MenacingBagel, It feels a bit weird having a heal effect in Mage, but other than that the card looks fine.

TheHoax91, I personally like greymane the best because enrage warrior is a lot of fun.

DestroyerR, Millhouse would just draw your entire deck and then kill you with fatigue on the spot, and I don't really like Hogger because the interaction with bouncing it to your hand feels weird, but I do like hakkar. I am not sure if it is too OP because you can use this with Plague of Flames on turn 5/6 and get a huge minion, or maybe 6 health is easy enough to remove that it shouldn't be too oppressive.

Swizard, I really like the new Malchezaar. It is sort of like Psychic Scream but only for highlander decks. However, you broke the unspoken rule of hearthstone card design: Never make a card with more than 4 lines of text. I would remove the "make them Legendary" bit because it is kind of pointless. Other than that, the card looks great!

@KANSAS Millhouse wouldn’t work that way, just like Augmented Elekk doesn’t shuffle infinite copies of a card into your deck

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I've given it some thought and ended up with two variantions:

    One which goes to Warrior:

This still uses the Unholy Aura theme of movement speed with Rush and fits decently with Warrior I think.

The other option is to stick with Rogue but remove the Lifesteal and Taunt and tweak the Runeblade to just trigger a Deathrattle. Rogue does have synergies with Deathrattle so I do want to see what I can do with that:

It loses any connection to the Unholy Aura though.
    Any thoughts?

    Some feedback for others:

    Show Spoiler

Xarkkal: Much better. Still a ton of resource gain but no massive swing on the turn it is played. Seems solid.

Swizard: You should try and keep card text to 4 lines or less (soft rule), but the card effect seems a bit random. Why not make it something like 'Battlecry: Transform all your non-legendary minions into legendary minions.' Or just 'Battlecry: Destroy all non-legendary minions.'.

Kansas: Seems good. You can tweak the rez pool by not putting weaker Beasts in the deck. Rush Beasts and King Krush would love this card.

DestroyerR: Millhouse seems a bit broken honestly. You can pretty reliably determine when you draw cards and you get a decent enough statline. Maybe it would be a little better if had some synergy with Spells, given it's a Mage minion. Hogger feels misplaced. Never really seen him as a Stealth character and returning to hand doesn't fit him either. You could just make it a Battlecry for the 2/2's. Hakkar seems decent but given how easily Warlock can fill a board with just 1/1's and wipe everything, I'd reduce the power of the card in general a bit.

I've pretty much settled on revamping Sergeant Sally, (although I've gone through enough different ideas to pretty much fill a whole set), but some of the feedback has made me want to make it closer to the original. So, two different ideas. I feel Rush is essential to making it playable (like the original would have been somewhat usable if it had had Rush), but otherwise they're very different cards. The first links in to a theme I'm adding to Paladin in my own custom set (which will be posted soonish) creating a kind of anti-tempo feel, slowing the opponent down. The second links a lot more closely to the original (same cost/statline), but with potential for a re-usable board clear. Thoughts?

    Feedback!

    Show Spoiler
Swizard - By make them legendary, do you mean just change the card rarity to Legendary? If so, it feels unnecessary, considering it's unlikely you'll bounce this back and play it again. If it transforms them into random legendaries, then it needs to be worded more clearly (although is the better effect). In addition, you've broken the unwritten rule of limiting lines of text to 4 lines. I'm unconvinced this needs the highlander requirement. Compared to Psychic Scream, this adds a 5/6 body, but (probably) strengthens the minions shuffled into the deck. I would personally remove HL requirement, raise the cost to 9 and make it transform minions into random legendaries.

KANSAS - Nice, more big beast support. I would say this would instantly become an near otk in wild with Charged Devilsaur/King Krush, but it's not really a big issue in Hunter. Good card.

DestroyerR - Sneakmaster Hogger is my favourite.

Nexus God Millhouse - The issue I have with this is it should, in theory trigger itself. Even if it doesn't, it feels far too strong in aggro/burn mage decks.

Sneakmaster Hogger - I'm having Quest Rogue flashbacks. Outside of that, it's an interesting stall card to enable otks, which Rogue does very well.

Hakkar, the Blood God - Zoo decks should have no issue pumping this out early, while clearing the board with Plague of Flames. Summon from hand effects is something unusual in HS, so it's an interesting idea, but feels a little weak.

The Hoax91 - I like Greymane the Cursed.

Eydis the Ascended - I've actually played around with the idea of a "temporary" Hero Card in the past. The issue is, how to make it clear, when you have transformed, that the deathrattle exists. As for the Hero Power, I would limit it to enemy minions given how many cheap spells Priest can churn out.

Archlich Kel'Thuzard - My question here is what happens to minions with 2 or less health? Are they destroyed in the deck, or do they die when they're played? It also doesn't feel like a mage card, which isn't a major issue, but could cost votes. It feels like a neutral card with a class tacked on.

Greymane the Cursed - Now this feels like a class card. It fits as removal on a stick, or a way of proccing multiple triggers on "when damaged" minions. It's the most elegant of your cards.

Menacingbagel - Main card - Pixie Dust should be capitalised. On Pixie Dust, Restore needs a capital, and allies should be friendly characters as it is on Potion Vendor. Those issues aside, healing feels really strange in Mage. Healing in mage feels stranger than Spell Damage in priest, so I would swap the class, and maybe give Brightwing Spell Damage +1.

Wailor - Archmage Manastorm is my favourite by a whisker over Harrison, Artifact Collector

Archmage Manastorm - Really solid card. Could be combo-ed with several smaller spells, or something like Blizzard. Value, but it doesn't feel broken.

Harrison, Artifact Collector - I love this card if only for its flavour. I would personally remove the Highlander requirement and the cost reduction, but either way it's fine.

Xavius, Nightmare Lord - I feel this is too high-roll personally. Either you draw your ramp, and get a massive board, or you don't, and it's just a big statstick. It's not bad, but the other two are better.

Should this cost 8 or 9, and is it better in Saviors of Uldum or Mean Streets of Gadgetzan?  It might be better to give your opponent random legendaries to dilute their deck but on the other hand against aggro you might improve their deck.  Furthermore, it might not be a complete clear if your opponent has legendary minions.  You can also use it while you have minions to add value for your deck.  I’m not sure exactly how good it is for costing 8 or 9.  The idea is that all non legendary minions are so terrified that they go back to the deck and then return as legendary minions which is the original Malchezaar’s effect

    More feedback!

    Show Spoiler

grumpymonk - I would stick with Maiev, because Kael'thas is a bit messy. If you have to explain it that much, it's too much.

SDhn2a - Welcome to Out of Cards :D I like Y'Shaarj the most because it connects back to his original effect and stats. Moroes seems really strange, and C'Thun doesn't really feel flavorful to me. I'm not sure what he has to do with the Schemes.

RenoLord - Leeroy the Chef is really strange, so I would go with Kel'Thuzad. You won't be able to post all three images, though, so you'll have to explain in your description that you come back with 5 Health.

HyperOrange - I love Kel'Thuzad being Freeze-related, although it would be difficult to pull off the destruction effect because your opponent's minions would thaw out first. I don't like Leeroy. I understand you can copy Chickens and whatnot to really ramp him up; I guess I just don't like seeing another huge Charge minion enter the game after the original Leeroy was removed.

Wailor - As has been said, you would need to change Harrison to include Legendary weapons from other classes, otherwise he'll only provide Kingsbane because of the way Discover works. I think Xavius is too gimmicky; I know mana gain is part of the Druid's main identity, but it still feels weird to me. I like Manastorm the most.

meisterz39 - I like Maiev, but it also feels really close to what the Demon Hunter already does. You've borrowed Kayn Sunfury's effect, and Crescent Slash is very similar to the DH Hero Power. I think The Curator is more creative as a solid Menagerie build-around card. The one problem, though, is that you need to change the name: The Curator is his original name. See cards like Deathwing and Deathwing, Mad Aspect. You also need the Hero Power to say "Hero Power" at the top, but that's a minor thing most people forget.

MenacingBagel - I know you're trying to connect to Brightwing's Heroes of the Storm iteration, but healing is supposed to be one of the Mage's key weaknesses and people will dock points for that. I think if you stick with the original version of your Trickster Brightwing, but clean up the outlying criticisms, you have a solid enough card.

TheHoax91 - I like this version of Eydis better. The Hero Power is more in-line with the original Eydis, and the mana cost seems fair. I'm not a fan of your other cards, so I would stick with Eydis.

DestroyerR - Hakkar seems really cool, and it's my favorite of the three, but it's also pretty easy to abuse him with Galakrond's horde of 1/1 Imps. I could definitely see him coming down earlier than intended because of Galakrond.

KANSAS - I like this version of Mukla even more. 5/5 connects to his original stats, and his effect with the +1/+1 connects to the Bananas. Nice work :)

Swizard - I would cut off the "Make them Legendary" part, because it is confusing and it adds too many lines of text to your card. Beyond that, I think the card is fine: it could be combo'd in a Plot Twist deck with Fel Lord Betrug or Dollmaster Dorian to get those minions back into your hand/back on the table.

Xarkkal - I like the latest Subject 9. It's a direct call-back to the original effect, while also being different enough to warrant its existence. Can't thin your deck out, but generating a "free" Christmas tree of Secrets is always fun :D

Thez - These are both much better than your original iteration of Rivendare. I think I like the Rogue version more, because it captures the original iteration's effect but in a new way. I think you could get away with the weapon being a 3/3.

shaveyou - I really like the version of Sally that links back to the original. It goes perfectly well with cards like Equality or Libram of Justice to act as a board-clear, while still being potentially good on its own.

I am still in search for a potentially better artwork for my Leeroy (@Wailor, the Leeroy in the league of explorers trailer does not convince me, but thanks for the suggestion) but I can explain one the existence of his party as the token seems to be one of the gripes people have with this card besides the art. In WoW where the meme of Leeroy started, the party of Leeroy was trying to come up with an intricate strategy and Leeroy just charged in, resulting in a wipe of the group. His guild members will always arrive, when he has already been beaten to death by something. The token is neutral, because a proper dungeon party is made up of several classes.

I am fine with the mechanics of this card and I think I will submit the 2nd iteration I made of him but I will seriously try to find better art.

    Another round of Feedback:

    Show Spoiler
@HyperOrange: Kel'thuzad is a powerful addition to Freeze Mage though annoying. At worst he is a 3rd Frost Nova in your Deck and at his best he is a board wipe with a body. I sense some OTK/Combo-Potential in Leeroy, Chickenhunter but it is fine as this would require serious setup. I think that bribe has been poorly received due to the possibilities it gives to your opponents. They can choose to spend 3 Mana now to get 3 extra mana next turn and this could be quite harmful. T5 8-Drop sounds very funny, doesn't it?

@Thez: The flavor on Lord Rivendare is great. The only thing that comes to my mind is that he is using Rush which did not yet exist in KoFT.  I like the warrior Rivendare more since it still has ties to the aura.

@Wailor: Archmage Manastorm is another great card, that finally awards him his rightful spot. I see one problem though, he might be a bit similar to Archmage Vargoth. Harrison is a great card, the flavor is everywhere and I did love Toki, when she was in Standard, even though she was not very strong. The use of Indiana Jones art is excellent too ;). Xavius is another nice card and I think, upping the statline was the right decision, since a board full of 1health-minions would be very easy to clear.

@meisterz39: I do not like Maiev, she might be too weak on the turn you play her but too strong against decks that rely heavily on taunt. Permanent effects are a dangerous thing in Hearthstone. Even though Paladin has Dragon and Murloc-synergies I am not really feeling the menagerie. As far as I know there is no special beast support in Paladin. You could go with it but I like the flavor only by 2/3rd. Sally Whitemane is basically a Khel'thuzad that also works in enemy turns and has an aura which again makes it very dangerous. If you manage to stick a taunt minion all dmg-sources except for Spells and Kayn are screwed. Right now she is way too strong. Out of all your cards I like Patches the most. He is simple but great.

@MenacingBagel: I like this iteration of Brightwing. Technically HotS is not HS but I do not mind. Healing is unheard of in mage but the connection to spell dmg makes it great in my eyes. You have a typo on Pixie Dust. Put the start of the sentence in capital letters.

@TheHoax91: Eydis does look a lot better now. As for your alternatives: I would hate to play against Khel'Thuzad as a minion based deck. Out of the two Greymane is the better one. I see cool combos with high health minions and frothing berserker on the board.

@DestroyeR: Milhouse is a ridiculous overdraw card. As the opposing player I would let him live and mill your entire deck. Sneakmaster Hogger seems to me like a "wide Edwin". Less vulnerable to single-target removal, more vulnerable to AoE. I like how you kept the Gnolls from his original version but he might feel unfair, since you could get more stats out of him with less cards than with Edwin. Hakkar is a great WL-Card. I simply adore the connection to WoW Lore, sacrificing your own minions to summon him.

@KANSAS: I feel like Mukla is now a bit too weak. Maybe make him give out 2 Bananas to each beast instead of just one?

@Swizard: Cool and innovative concept for a board wipe. Maybe consider raising its cost by 1 and giving the legendary minions on each players hand instead of shuffling them into the decks else I feel like this is a psychic scream/vanish with body that can completetly fuck up your opponent. I am not so sure about the balancing but that would be my advise

@Xarkkal: I feel like you should have gone halfway and instead of making the secrets cost 0 mana, make them cost 1.

@Shaveyou: The AoE-Sally seems dangerous in combination with Buffs, especially the +1/+1 Libram. Theoretically you could basically get one consecration after another.

@DescentOfDragonsOp: Your Alexstrasza is still neutral and it is in the rules of the competition that the legendaries have to belong to a class.

I was actually debating that already :) With the no duplicate requirement, the reward of just 5 random secrets feels underwhelming. Making them cost 1 mana feels better, but not too swingy. This way, at 10-mana, you can play Subject 9, the Callow and all 5 secrets (assuming you don't get any duplicates)  Which is basically playing 5 random hunter secrets with a 4/4 stick for 10 mana. Which sounds fair to me for a legendary.

I really want this card for Yogg Hunter...

Thoughts?

I like the first version, not the second. The second also already has problem with fitting the text in, clearly you shrunk it to fit it there and it shows. I also dont think that copying the original Legendary'sability, but making it slightly different is a good way to go about it this week, but maybe someone will do it right.

Brightwing took her ventures to Gadgetzan and joined with the Kabal I guess. Since healing isn't a mage thing and priest doesn't really have spell damage I deiced to just combo them together, and warlock was just in the package. I mean yeah the flavour is off but I'm not really sure how to fix it currently.

@FrighteningTorus: Ah yes, pass me that "Pixie Dust." I honestly really enjoy the flavor on Back Alley Brightwing (and it fits Gadgetzan so well!), though it's not something that Blizz would ever publish. The mechanics support the theme, and the balance is good as well. The main thing I'd want to see changed is the art on Pixie Dust, because it doesn't feel like Hearthstone art, and- not to say one decision is better than another, but- it's also worth considering whether you want to use the original BW statline. What sorts of decks do you envision making use of this?

Have a good day now, y'all!

Here's another round of feedback. I'm sorry if I missed you!

    Show Spoiler

@DestroyerR - None of these do it for me honestly. Millhouse there are already 2 versions submitted of, one of which is a mage, so I would suggest against that. The drawing card effect on him feels very random too. Hogger is interesting, but honestly pretty useless. It's an interesting take on Hogger flavor wise, but I just don't see this getting any play. Hakkar is way too dangerous. With Plague of Flames existing, and Warlock having so many ways to generate tokens, this would hit the board before most classes have any way to be able to answer it.

@KANSAS - I like it, my only complaint is I couldn't use it in Recruit hunter. I dream for this effect on a deathrattle, but the Battlecry makes sense for the flavor. The +1/+1 feels a little tacked on and underwhelming. Make sure you have a period at the end of your text.

@Swizard - This is a tricky one to balance… but I really like the flavor! One thing really fast, make sure you capitalize and bold the words "Legendary". See Dragon's Hoard as an example. Also, add a dash after "non" so it's "non-Legendary", see Corrupted Seer. Anyway, back to balance… I honestly think this might be fine at Prince Malchezaar's original mana cost of 5. It's a Psychic Scream, but you're shuffling cards into both decks, and adding Legendary minions to each deck, and since you're only removing non-Legendary minions from the board, there's a chance it's not even a full board clear. You might want to weigh other people's opinion on balancing, but my personal belief is you'd be good keeping it as a 5/5/6.

@DescentOfDragonsOp - The Battlecry on Alexstraza is very underwhelming, it's basically casting Overflow without the card draw and getting 5 armor instead, all for 1 more mana. You have a lot of room to work with to make that Battlecry more interesting. The HP is fine. None of it is very exciting honestly, I understand the flavor but it's too basic for a Hero card. Also, watch your spaces and your capitals, and your spelling on "characters".

@MenacingBagel - gave me a chuckle, but this wouldn't make it into Hearthstone. I'd probably give this 2 stars because the flavor is good and it made me laugh, but it's not realistic to ever be in the game.

@bigcums - I'm not sure about the flavor on this, but I see some potential with some tweeking. Adding Rush doesn't make any sense. Captain Greenskin gives your weapon +1/+1. If you don't want to go with weapon flavor, I suggest you keep the +1/+1 flavor by having this give the pirates you discover +1/+1 and ditching the Rush. This card played with Captain Hooktusk could then summon you 3 buffed pirates, and Hooktusk takes care of the Rush. Greenskin giving minions Rush does not fit flavor wise at all. I'm not going to point out every single one, but watch you typing, you have spaces in incorrect locations. I don't know about others, but I dock a star for each grammatical mistake I find, which can quickly take a 5 star card down to a 1 star card. That might be more harsh than most people judge it, but grammatical errors in my opinion completely ruin a card, because it sticks out like a sore thumb.

@Zeratia - I think flavor wise, you should have it be 3 random enemy minions. I'd suggest spelling out "Three". It looks weird to me starting a sentence with a digit, and the original Magtheridon has three spelled out.

@Xarkkal After what you said I  had to agree and change it up a bit. The first time I ever made this card I actually tought about putting +1/+1 as well as Rush but I tought that would be too OP so I decided to keep the rush because it would be more impactful but it really made the flavor suffer so now I did as you said .

I've already submitted my Curator (with new art and a modified name), but I'm wondering what folks think of this new rebuild of Sally Whitemane:

My first version was rightly called out as too powerful - effectively a stronger Kel'Thuzad that would make Taunt and Rush minions too powerful. While I have some ideas on how to adjust for that (e.g. make the aura only active on your turn to avoid the unfair taunt issues), I also got feedback that she was giving some people Res Priest PTSD.

The fact is, Sally Whitemane's whole shtick is resurrection, so she belongs in some kind of Res Priest build. But I think it's kind of a shame that Res Priest is exclusively a slow, control deck. Resurrection should also be able to slot reasonably into a midrange or tempo Priest build. So, this Sally resurrects minions, but is probably too small on her own to naturally slot into a typical "Big Res Priest" deck.

I had another idea for my card, let me know which one you think is better.

    Show Spoiler
The original card:                      My other idea:

One question, is it better to spell out "three" and "four" or is it better to simply put the number "3" and "4"? I would assume you could do either one, but whichever one makes the text look neater is better.

Some more feedback for those who haven't submitted:

    Show Spoiler
@Xarkkal, I think I like the card best when it adds 5 secrets at full cost. As we have seen from the first Subject 9, adding 5 secrets to your hand is very valuable. Playing 1 card to get 5 cards is already worth the Highlander restriction, making them cost 1 feels like overkill.

@Thez, I like the warrior version better. It is powerful and flavorful.

@shaveyou, I definitely think the first version is better. It has a nice police/law enforcement vibe with taxing your opponents minions. I would give it 4 stars, withholding one star only because I don't find anything particularly exceptional about it. It is fair, but not amazing.

@Swizard, I think either 9 or 10 mana would be fair. A total board wipe is worth 8 mana, add a body to that and it is worth more. You are also denying the opponent any opportunity to resurrect those minions, and you are shuffling some irrelevant draws into their deck. All in all it is a pretty cool card.

@DecentOfDragonsOP, The Battlecry feels a bit weird, it is like Tree of Life only worse, and Tree of Life is a pretty bad card. I like the Heal Druid support, but I would make the Battlecry a bit more relevant. Maybe make it restore 10 health? or 15? *edit* I see you adjusted the Battlecry and I think it looks much better now.

@MenacingBagel, The card looks fine, but I am not sure how this card would be useful in-game. Basically, this card is 4 mana 3/4 Fungal Enchanter. I would maybe give him Elusive and change Pixi Dust to something more useful.

@Zeratia, first of all, this should say "Deathrattle" not "when this dies". That aside, the card looks really easy to abuse. You could transform or silence this guy and your opponents minions would never wake up. Now, playing an 8 mana card combined with another card to get rid of 3 minions isn't OP, it is the Dormant thing that worries me. If you do prevent this guy from triggering his Deathrattle then your opponent now only has 4 spaces on the board. Perhaps you could change it to work more like Carnivorous Cube where it destroys the minions instead of making them go dormant.

I like the first one better but I would change the coma to an and, also the number 3 is good.

So far people are suggesting that the Malchezaar, the Terror card cost 5, 8, 9, and 10.  This probably means it’s hard to know how good it is without actually playing it as its effect could be positive or negative in different situations (against combo random legendaries in their deck slows them down but against aggro it could give them more value).  I will probably go with a weighted average and cost it at 8 mana.  Compared to twisting nether it might not remove everything but it will negate deathrattles and has a body.

Seems way too powerful, in wild token druid filling a board with 2/2s makes your mana crystals go away.  You should make it cost more.

I think I like the first one better, and I'm not sure about the wording on the second one. Murloc should be capitalized and I forgot the period, but I can fix that in my next iteration. Feedback is appreciated.

Welcome to our side of things :D

I also like the first one better, because the other card is just the original with a "Recruit 3 Murlocs" Battlecry tacked on. The first iteration captures the "I'm a Murloc that grows powerful" feel but does so in a new way. It's a little weird to be borrowing Gral, the Shark's effect before he ever existed, but I'm trying to be lenient lol. This is also way better than Gral, but Gral kind of sucks so whatever.

I have to agree that I like the first one more. I'd change the wording a bit, and you need some periods and caps.

    1. I'd suggest to put "3" instead of "three" in this case
    2. Drop the "friendly" as it is redundant. There would not be enemy Murlocs in your deck.
    3. You already caught the capitalization for Murloc and the missing period
    4. Make sure you also have a period at the end of the deathrattle effect.

Overall great first idea for your first card competition!

Gral is so bad that I actually forgot he existed, so I didn't know I was copying :)

Do you think I should say something like "remove 3 murlocs" or "destroy 3 murlocs" to have a different flavor, or should I change it mechanically?

I don't think it's a deal-breaker to use Gral's effect, if you want to keep it, although maybe change the watermark to avoid the issue. Make it a custom watermark, suggesting it came after Gral.

If you want to change the card mechanically to be separate from Gral or whatever, you could say "Charge. Battlecry: Destroy 3 friendly Murlocs and gain their stats. Deathrattle: Resummon them." That would require board setup beforehand, instead of pulling from your deck.

I though about destroying on-board murlocs, but I thought it would be to hard to set up and wouldn't be as impactful. I think I'll keep it like it is, with a different watermark. Thanks for the feedback!

I want to ask for feedback one more time before submitting my card. I am having second thoughts about whether or not three is the right number of Beasts to summon. When compared to other "big beast" stuff like Beastmaster Leoroxx or Kathrena Winterwisp, three looks fair. But when compared to cards like N'Zoth, the Corruptor or Zul'jin three looks like too little. Because Mukla is a Beast himself, I don't think you would want to play him in big/recruit Beast Hunter. I would rather he see play in regular Beast Hunter as a comeback card after you have run out of steam. What do you guys think?

    I have to agree with you that 3 feels underwhelming, and I have always wanted a 10 mana finisher like this in beast hunter. I think the card has the same issues that made Abominable Bowman never find a good home. There are two sides to this;

#1: Beast Hunter typically has a lot of small tokens, so in order to take advantage of the summoning, you have to avoid cards with tokens. This naturally pushes you into a "Big Beast" format. You can counteract this by increasing the amount of Beasts summoned to increase the number of rolls and chances of summoning large beasts vs small beasts. However, increasing the number of Beasts summoned creates another problem...

#2: Tundra Rhino exists. Having a minion summon 7 Beasts that died, all it takes is 1 Tundra Rhino to turn that into a ridiculous amount of face damage for 10 mana.

Tundra Rhino really causes most of the issues, which is why I've always assumed there has never been a "Bloodreaver Gul'dan" for Beasts.

The last version of your card I saw says "summon 3 beasts and add 4 bananas to your hand". Maybe make it 4 beasts and 4 bananas?

Here's what I've got for this round.

Encore is an incredible combo card, but with the Highlander restriction blocking both duplicates and Rogue shuffling shenanigans, it'd take a lot more creativity to pull off a combo with it. I went with Hall of Fame because 1) that's where the real ETC is, and 2) there isn't really an expansion that fits this guy.

grayghost39 - I like the card well enough and it could definitely find a home in Fire Plume's Heart decks to get to Sulfuras faster. That being said, I feel like the effect is not worth being a Legendary: Infested Goblin, for example, is very similar but is a Rare. Maybe "Battlecry: Fill your hand with 2/2 Gnolls with Taunt"?

Hordaki - I despise Combo decks, so I accept that I am biased here. That being said I think Encore takes away from the uniqueness of Open the Waygate, being the exact same reward. I know that gameplay-wise it will play out differently in a separate class, but still. I love ETC as he is, I just feel Encore could do something more unique. Also if you could shift ETC's art to the right a little more, that will remove Alarak's arm + blade from the picture lol :P

Here's what Magtheridon could have been

The effect was inspired by Magtheridon corrupting surviving orcs into fel orcs. Corruption is obviously a Warlock mechanic

Boy, am I late for this one. I had some other ideas (including a Mechanixia that filled the board with [Hearthstone Card (Mechanical Welp) Not Found]), but I decided to go with this one:

This works best with the Dr. Boom, Mad Genius hero power that summons 1/1s. You trade those in, and if you played a Wargear, a Beryllium Nullifier and Zilliax, you have 3 13/16 with Taunt, Divine Shield and Lifesteal that can't be targetet...

... Might need to tone this guy down.

    Feedback:

    Show Spoiler

grayghost39 You're about 3 weeks too late with this one. In terms of balancing, either make the Gnolls 1 mana, or have it be an end of turn effect.

Hordaki Interesting idea. The highlander rule might be the balancer this card needs, especially in class with so much shuffling like Rogue. And I don't this Rogue can pull off the same level of BS mage can with an extra turn. My biggest worry is something like Myra's Unstable Element, which, combined with Chef Nomi and a Prep, could actually represent an OTK.

MurderFaece You could probably buffs its stats a little, especially that late in the game. Otherwise, I like the concept. Too bad it'll probably die before it corrupts anyone.

Props to whoever submitted the Sylvanas Prime card. Looks like there was no need to worry about lots of Sylvanas submissions but the one that did come around eventually is far better than mine. Good luck!

I may have slightly, maybe, only just forgotten about the comp this week and managed to submit 9 minutes before closing. Phew!

Good luck to everyone who submitted, I've already seen quite a few great entries just skimming through them :)

Started playing HS in May, 2015. The bad news: I missed the excitement of 'Naxx out?' and GvG. The good news: I never met an Undertaker.

Good luck everyone in the voting, and good luck to our future finalists :)

We had a lot more variety this week than I honestly expected: I was waiting for a ton of Sylvanas', Arthas', and Alexstraszas to pop up, if-only because they have a lot of available art. People got creative to get around the art issue, and I'm glad to see what came to be.

I gave it 3 stars because the first version is really cool and a good set-up for the prime version, but I think the prime is way OP when compared to the other prime cards.

Honestly, the one thing i have the issue with this card is that in the time when Ashes of Outland take place, Sylvanas was already a banshee, so making her as her original self doesnt make much sense to me.

I know that not everyone knows the lore, i know i dont very well myself, but when it comes to big lore characters like this, it feels weird. I would have much rather saw a completely new, custom form for her, like Ice Alar or Mecha KT, than to try and fit her original form into the game when there is no proper setting to do so. Maybe when Toki finally takes us back to the past to repair the timeline, then we might find ourselves in a proper setting :)

Now that you've pointed it out, that's incredibly obvious. 6 mana is way to cheap for stealing 3 minions, the silence part won't make that much worse. Guess I was blinded by the great idea of using her former form as a Ranger to set up the Prime card. I didn't know that was wrong, too, until Sinti pointed it out. 3 stars sounds reasonable, the Prime card is just too undercosted.

Question about the themes for each competition: How do we pick the theme? Does it get chosen by the community or the OutOfCards staff? I wanted to suggest a Darkmoon Faire themed competition seeing that many people believe the last expansion of the year will have to do with the Darkmoon Faire (due to the resembling teaser and the Faire reference in the Outlands Trailer)

Ever wonder what the rumble Run cards would be like in the HS world, well wonder no more and look at the custom collection created to solve that question in Rumble Run Returns! http://www.hearthcards.net/setsandclasses/#5363

Every winner gets to pick the theme for a competition. For example, I won the fifth competition, and the next day I got a PM asking for contest ideas. I sent in a couple different themes that I came up with, the staff debated them, and the seventh competition was the idea they thought was best out of the ones I pitched (in this case, Demons for classes other than Warlock and DH).

I think your card is very well balanced - it feels appropriately like a finisher, and due to the fact that it's a Battlecry it doesn't immediately slot into Big Beast decks as a terrifying finisher (though there's still something to be said for the combo potential in one card - King Krush, Charged Devilsaur and a couple flex spots is kind of scary).

I think the two areas it falls down a bit are connected - it doesn't really connect to King Mukla that much, and overall the design isn't incredibly exciting. Some of the finalists don't relate at all to their original cards, of course, but I know why Kel'thuzad, Fallen Archmage would be doing this effect; I understand the flavour of Arthas, Mad Prince.

When I look at Mukla, King of the Wild, all I have to go on - in my own personal experience - is the original Hearthstone card. I don't know enough about WoW to know if this is a completely new imagining, or if it references something real. The +1/+1s are maybe to represent Bananas? That's kind of cute, but I can see it getting missed by a lot of people. Other than that, it's a 10 mana card that summons a lot of semi-controllable stats, which while good and realistic, doesn't exactly excite the imagination, imo.

Having said all that, I can say you were very highly rated, you just didn't quite make the top 8, so a very good card overall!

Edit: here was my card in case you were wondering

For me personally, the bad rating I gave all came down to the typos. I grade typos very heavily, probably more so than other people. I dock a star for each typo I find. Which in this case ended up with the card receiving 1 star from me. Here's the typos I removed a star for for your reference.

    1. No space in between the colon and "restore".
    2. "restore" should be capitalized.
    3. "health" should be capitalized.
    4. "dragons" should be capitalized.
    5. Missing period at the end of the sentence on hero card.
    6. "health" in hero power should be capitalized.
    7. Missing period at the end of the sentence on the hero power.

Those typos brought you down to a 1 star because I don't give anything under a 1 star. Without the typos, I probably would have given this 4 stars. Maybe 3 because I feel the hero power is a little bland.

The Battlecry is strong, but not a deal-breaker. For me personally what did you in was the formatting mistakes:

    • "Restore" needs to be capitalized, and needs a space in-between the word and the colon that preceded it.
    • "Health" and "Dragons" need to be capitalized.
    • You need a period after "hand".
    • You need "Hero Power" in bold above "Restore 5 Health," and a period at end. Also don't know why it costs 3.

It hurts your card when there are a lot of mistakes on it, but a proofread can help with that. If you're not sure it's right, you can always bother the lot of us to assist you :)

    Edit: I've been ninja'd.

congrats to all of the finalists im bummed that my card wasnt one of them but i do belive the battlecry was kinda lopsided anyways

i had a few cards that i liked that are here mainly the medivh because that was the only medivh card and it was one of the few prime cards and even though the base card  reminded me of Kanrethad Ebonlocke the prime form was very uniuqe to set itself apart from the others

Yeah, sorry to sound like a broken record, but I really dislike typos. If you want, I can help you proofread and fix up grammar and stuff, but I automatically dock a star or 2 for grammar reasons. Which dropped yours from a 3-star to a 2 imo

    :)

I didn't know that some people took grammar seriously in the competition, but thanks everyone for critiquing me on grammar. so from now on I will put grammar to the utmost importance in my card designs.

Edit: i appreciate it @Conduit for the help but i think I'll be good

Grammar and formatting mistakes fall under the same wheel-house as the watermark, for me at least. It all comes down to how "real" your card appears to be: could/would Blizzard print something like this? Blizzard cares about their watermark continuity and making sure their cards are 100% perfect, so you should too. It's the sign of a polished product, and I personally do take it seriously.

Millhouse submissions were in a weird spot for me - if they were just a good card, I didn't think they represented Millhouse that well, and if they were a card that could backfire on you... then it could backfire on you, and that isn't fun.

Some 'restrictions' put on them also either made the card way too bad or way too good, from what I remember. I think there was one which was just a 2 mana 4/4 so long as you didn't play any spells without killing it off first, which is just a really good card for something like a Big Spell Mage.

    Welcome to the site!

    Pretty much what Linky said.

I can totally understand just wanting to make a fun card and thats it. Or if English isnt someone's first language, it can be challenging to come up with proper wording or not make grammar mistakes. Dont be affraid to ask for proofread in the discussion thread, folks will gladly help you or suggest a better wording based on existing cards.

We are making cards that could pass as real cards, at least as WCDC is concerned, so having wrong watermark, bad grammar or phrasing of the effect, even just having used "health" instead of "Health" takes away from the quality of the card and it is often reflected in the votes. I hope these things will not deter you from submitting again but rather push you to make your cards even better, as we all strive to do :) Good luck next time!

Another thing that kind of killed the Millhouse cards for me was how many of them used the same art. I know that's not entirely at fault of the creators, art was a challenge with this one. But seeing so much of the exact same art just made all of those ones blend together in my mind.

Get those votes in people!  Can't wait to see who wins. Also to take a look at the ones that didn't.

Congrats! What impressed me most was the depth of the card (even though I needed your explanation to understand it). Well done!

I notice I am confused. Something I believe isn't true. How do I know what I think I know?
