  • [PSA: Free Arena Ticket] Descent of Dragons 2nd rotation (March 4)

    Staff
    Quote From Abobominator

Well... I missed out on this. Had a weak draft, ended at 2:3 and now I get the "This Arena will end soon" message and cannot start a run to get the free ticket. Bummer. Did not know there was a transition close period.

Sorry to hear that. Yeah, there is usually like a 6 hour period before the reset. Im still not sure how long exactly and once or twice iv got reports that ppl could start the run like half hour prior, so like it is not best to leave for last second :)

  • [Game] Card Treasure Hunt (The Resurrection Attempt)

  • Elusive units still a problem - Relentless Persuit is too cheap

Ok, I am getting more upset about the current state of elusive units, they even ridiculous in Expedition... I got assaulted by 10/10 Kinkou Lifeblade Card Image. Gut elusive units already.

Good guess, but no. "Fame" only means increasing your chances to win in this case.

  • Damage interactions

Sounds a lot like my earlier confusion with how the "survive damage" effects interact with barrier. I guess it's consistent, although it seems highly unintuitive.

  • Year of Phoenix announcement - finally today?

Mid-March, so the earliest I'm guessing is next week. My guess is announcement will be on Thursday 3/12.

Great value, I got really lucky.. so much so that i wonder if the pity timer for the first 10 packs was reset?

I opened 5 legendaries, 1 of which was a golden Herald Volazj. Immediately dusted that one, so I have plenty of dust for the new expansion.

    Very happy.

  • Is Final Spark / Karma interactions intended?

    Quote From greenhatjynx78

but lets analyze this for a sec: to do that you need to be at least in round 10 control lux and karma , use  at least 6 mana on spells to get { if the spell wasnt dawn and dusk} a extra shot on final spark . dont you think after all these loops [ and the opponent didnt  have removal for them after all this time] you should get something else instead of a fizzle? besides if riot do more overwhelm  spells in the future this interaction would be the rule, and if they dont this will be  inconsistent with other spells but will be such a fringe case that i dont think they would see it as a problem,  its not like final spark karma is dominating the ladder and is a fun combo that take time and effort to do so they should let it slide :D also why dont we ask riot if is intended? they made the game after all they should know the answer and we would be more in peace with a confirmation.

Just to make my position entirely clear - I absolutely believe that the Lux/Karma Final Spark interaction is intentional on the part of Riot, and an entirely positive interaction that makes playing such a deck fun and rewarding. I just think they are wrong to use the Overwhelm keyword, which very plainly doesn't apply to spells and makes this interaction less clear. Quick summary of why:

    • Overwhelm help text clearly only applies to offensive combat
    • Spells that cause Overwhelm units to attack other units (the closest corollary to Final Spark) do not cause excess damage to hit the Nexus
    • All other spells that lose their target as a result of some spell higher up the stack fizzle instead of triggering

It's certainly possible that they could create more Overwhelm burn spells in the future, and that they could modify the help text to properly explain how Overwhelm is intended to behave on units vs. spells, but today all indications are that it is designed to be a keyword that uniquely applies to attacking units and has no business on a spell. And frankly, I think if they do choose to make some official alternative meaning for Overwhelm, that meaning will be better encapsulated by some other keyword that is unique to spells.

To help illustrate my point, consider this example. Imagine if they didn't include the Burst speed keyword for spells, but instead had spells with the Quick Attack keyword as stand-ins for the Burst keyword. That would be very confusing for players because they'd be using one keyword to define two loosely related things, and the help text for Quick Attack today doesn't mean anything for spells. Those players would quickly learn that alternative meaning for Quick Attack, but it's very clear that having two keywords is better for clarity.

It totally does not. No one here is salty, we're just discussing a very powerful card interaction. If you read my original post, you'd see that I talked about winning a game with this combo, as well as losing one.

Thanks a lot! Name and rarity are the two things I felt most uncomfortable with, too. I think there's enough resemblance to Zerek, Master Cloner to make this a new iteration of him. Will think some more about the cost.

    Those are my ideas:

    Show Spoiler

I wanted to create a corrupted version of Lorewalker Cho but couldn't come up with an alternative mechanic that involved copying spells. This one adds minions to the other players hand instead and can be used to irritate the opponent or for hand disruption. In WotoG, Warlock could combo this with Forbidden Ritual to clogg your opponents hand with useless tentacles, for example. The stats are a problem since I didn't want to go too far away from the original Cho but wasn't content with 0 attack either. The art is okayish I guess, I couldn't find a good corrupted Pandarian.

    Show Spoiler

My second idea was to create something fun out of Yogg's insanity and the Thief Priest archetype. Assuming our opponent's spell are not entirely garbage and given the fact that we at the very least learn what cards they are running, this is quite powerful. That's why I tuned down the stats.

Please help me choose my card for this week and feel free to give feedback on both of them. I'm also curious where you guys get your art. I'm not really happy with what I used this week but couldn't find any better on artstation.com - do you have other recommendations?

    Bump. More feedback please?

How many times do we have to shout PRAISE YOGG at you before it sinks in?! :)

In seriousness though Thief Priest is a good archetype and that card would be both fun and useful. Think about how many people use Lorewalker Cho vs how many mages will throw out a Puzzle Box of Yogg-Saron? Exactly. My only suggestions would be 1) lower the cost to 6 (7 is  bit high even for something like that) and 2) make Legendary - I think having 2 could be too much. With Yogg or the puzzle box, the spells are random. With this you're pulling spells from the opponent's deck, so the chances of getting something terrible (or even non-useful) is much lower than purely random.

  • Damage interactions

Probably the way they are programmed is "if the unit gets hit by" instead of "if the unit is damaged by". I was not clear enough, but you get the point.

Yeah, they should check this out.

    Also, has LOR Discord?

But balance is fun? I don't know about you but I prefer a fair fight where both players do there best as opposed to getting absolutely curb-stomped. Take galakrond shaman back in its prime for an example pretty much everyone hated it, even the ones that played it. The reason they make all the classes even is to be on a level playing field, but sometimes they fail and then everyone hates the meta for a while prime examples are control warrior, galakrond shaman, pirate warrior. And this post is about battlegrounds and bug fixes only removing a hero that was way more powerful then he should have been, so really not that stale and boring if you ask me.

  • The Year of the Dragon Problem - An Opinion Piece

I hope the Good classes also get a Galakrond or something else to compensate. Sure you can do reno decks all the time but that gets a bit boring after a while. The new reno hero card for mage is nice but not a major game changer (only 1 card and 10 mana cost) and not of the same level as say Zul'jin. What I do like is with so many cards in the pool you can try out all kinds of different decks and they can all work.

What I always find disappointing is that most of the time you queue up against some well-known net-deck and my tolerance for some of them is approaching zero, probably because it is so predictable and not because of expected winrate, I think the balance is pretty ok at the moment.
