I continue to be firmly confident in the meta resolving itself without balance changes. Probably in the form of Hecarim-centric Ephemeral decks steamrolling the Elusives.
I feel like you are making a pretty big assumption here -- namely that Riot achieved the uncanny feat of getting the balance exactly right after exactly one balance patch following a very limited pre-beta event.
The whole point of beta is to fix bugs and address balance problems that come to light when large numbers of players start playing your game.
Riot's stated goal is to have about 10 different decks showing strong representation in the meta at any given time. We are obviously not there yet, and I don't think the meta is going to self-correct enough to get us there unless Elusive takes a hit.
It doesn't belong in every deck -- certainly not most aggro lists -- but it's amazing if your strategy is to buff one minion and protect the bajeezus out of it.
Even when that's not your plan, it's great hard "removal" in a pinch.
Also, there are some clever tricks you can do, like Detain your own unit that is about to die -- it comes back fully healed and replays any "on summon" effects. Or Detain your own frostbitten unit with something you can kill cheaply and quickly to put it back all nice and thawed.
I dont like having the same name as other players so I combined two words to make this one. Shotgun + Resupply = Shosupply. First two talents I used in a game I played back then called natural selection.
I really hope they don't. Even if "old" Galakrond Shaman wasn't as broken as it was during the first week of the expansion, Shaman has had its time in the sun in the recent past, being the most powerful class for months; so following the "supposed" philosophy of the game, I hope the class remains dead at least until the next rotation, if not longer. We've seen enough of Thrall.
I personally think 20 hp is too low when your unit HP stat follows Hearthstone rules, even if your unit blocking follows Magic rules.
Personally I think the only reason Magic gets away with 20 hp is the fact that pretty much every creature effectively has Regenerate. And healing is incredibly common on top of that, and you can overheal. Where as in Runeterra that is not the case.
But that's just my opinion :/
You do realize its only possible to attack every other turn and oponnents can also play spells there right?
Okay think about it this way I had 1 mana to set up my first attack You had 3 mana to set up your first attack I had 5 mana to set up my next attack You had 7 mana to set up your next attack :) So yeah you attack "every other turn" but you also pretty much have an incredible amount of mana to set up those attacks, compared to Magic and Hearthstone where it's your 1 mana setup -> my 1 mana setup -> your 2 mana setup -> my 2 mana setup, your 3 -> my 3, etc.
And UNLIKE Magic and Hearthstone, you can attack with a unit you JUST played this turn.
I think the reason aggro is so good is because, basically, everything has haste and vigilance.
Meanwhile elusive, on top of what Kansas had to say, is difficult to get rid of for a non-elusive deck (which is pretty much anything that doesn't play ionia in it...), yaknow, if your opponent can just Deny a lot of spells you got to kill it, or buff their elusive units health temporarily, or, just, yaknow, play more elusive units
The stat-lines gotta go down for aggro elusive cards or the nexus hp has gotta go up, in my opinion at least ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I like the full art of Funsmith, havent actually looked at that one until now. But it always felt like the full picture sjould tell more of her story. Which i suppose you can say about almost any card 😅
You feel enraged, right? You just paid $10 USD plus most of your starter resources towards a deck that will never climb ladder--what are you going to do now? Not only are you out the cash, but you still don't have a competitive deck AND your out most of your wildcards.
No, because I can easily earn every bit of it back by leveling up one region. No one playing this game will suffer from having a truly limited collection for very long if they put forth a minimal amount of effort to complete quests and such.
The kind of person who gets enraged at Riot for something that is so clearly a result of the player's own impatience? That person is never going to be happy with any game they try.
(Also, if Riot makes a habit of nerfing cards into unplayability or letting a broken meta fester, the problem is bigger than some silly refund can solve.)
Pandaren is my favorite race in WoW because of their neutrality (they can choose to join Alliance or Horde, or even stay faction-less) and of course because of Po, the Kung Fu Panda. Combined with my favorite letter 'V' that can stand for both 'peace' and 'victory' and you got my name.
Not played in ALL decks, but it is the second highest played card in the game at 44.3% of decks (according HSReplay at time of this post). Most played card right now is Zilliax in a staggering 60.3% of decks. Again, these stats are from people using Hearthstone Deck Tracker.
I was thinking I've never seen him in builds like Embiggen Druid, but apparently that's just me. When selecting Leeroy in HSReplay and looking at the deck lists he's being used in, it is a very wide variety of builds. So while he may not be in all decks, there do some to be variations of almost every archetype using him.
While I'm not in favor of HoF for Leeroy simply because Charge is a dying mechanic in the game and it can have it's uses, he does seem to be a finishing solution for almost every class/deck IF they choose to include him. If he were to be replaced I would honestly hope they HoF him in favor of adding a new Charge legendary. Maybe slightly higher cost 6/4 or something. But Charge aside, his effect is also a slight counter to Resurrect Priests as he gives them 2 1/1 whelps. Not saying that's why he's being played so much (it's not) but it's one bonus to having him.
My biggest issue with Leeroy, personally... I decided a few years back to finally craft him, then a day later opened him in a pack, then next expansion they added the "no dupe legendary" rule... that bastard!
OFF TOPIC: Is it just me or is Rush a bit overused right now? I hope we'll see a little less of it going forward.
So long as Hearthstone sticks to an evergreen set (instead of a rotating core set) minions like Malygos, Leeroy, and Alexstraza probably must remain a part of that evergreen set.
An evergreen set needs certain things - and it often needs them to be neutral cards. You need your neutral combo finisher. You need your neutral aggro finisher. You need your neutral control finisher. You need neutral weapon removal. You need neutral card draw. Etc.
I am just as bored of it as everyone else. But if you remove part of the equation, the other stuff becomes more unbalanced and fucks with design.
For example, without neutral aggro cards, only particular classes can be aggressive at any given point, which means an overall reduction in the potential for aggressive decks in the metagame. Correspondingly, all decks will have neutral control and combo tools, leading to a much more unbalanced situation.
BTW - reckless rocketeer still exists and it is nearly the exact same card. People will still lose their mind, not because it's unfair, but because people don't like losing.
It's funny to see people in this thread complain that Rush has removed minion trading from the game.
I'll just double down on things Flux and others have said - the problem with Rush (if there's a problem at all, and I don't necessarily think there is one) is the number of cards with Rush. The mechanic is fine.
But this is what happens at this stage in rotations. We have the maximum amount of cards in the card pool. Indeed, due to Galakrond's Awakening, this is the largest cardpool we've had since rotations began.
The problem (if there is one) will correct itself.
So spider decks/shadow isles decks are definitely getting nerfed right? its such a non-interactive deck to go against. They puke spiders all over the board then buff their attacks and if you try to defend yourself they have cards like "3 mana if 3 followers died summon a 6/6 with fearsome" you literally get punished for defending yourself which restricts the kind of decks that you can play. or they flood the board with Noxian overwhelm followers. It's so boring.
I would expect Shadow Isles in general to get some type of tune-down next Tuesday as they do seem overly popular, but I doubt spiders specifically will get reworked. I suspect you're at lower rank, and you're seeing a lot of spider decks because they're easy to build from the free collection. At higher ranks, spiders are practically nonexistent--they rely more on Hecarim, Mistwraiths, and Raza. In general: there are other decks which either put on more pressure faster, stabilize easily, or just put out bigger things.
Here are a few pointers about fighting against spiders:
They rely HEAVILY on Elise. If you suspect you're playing a spider deck, try to mulligan hard for something that can take her out: Get Excited!, Black Spear, challengers, or even just an early 3-attack minion like Academy Prodigy.
Against any Noxus deck, you also want to mulligan for at least 1 early blocker--especially for a Round 1 blocker if they're on attack so you don't get punished by a Legion Saboteur or Legion Rearguard.
It's often better to leave Hapless Aristocrat unblocked and take 1 damage rather than flip it to a spiderling.
Fresh Offerings can turn the game if it summons an early Vilemaw, but it also costs 3 mana. Spider decks really hate banking mana because they need early-game tempo. If you see them attack and they have 3 mana left, try to avoid killing more than 2 things. Conversely, if you're on attack and they have 3+ chump blockers, try either to bait them into spending their mana (i.e.., play your own units, preferably low-cost things so you conserve your own mana) or skip the attack entirely if there's no clear advantage in doing so.
Similarly, always expect they have a Black Spear in hand. Unfortunately this only needs 1 death so it's nearly impossible to prevent, but you can do things like only play champions at the start of your turn so you at least get 1 good attack out of them, or try to keep mana open for a combat trick.
Like all aggro decks, they are trading quick nexus damage now for less long-term impact. Therefore anything that stalls them--either heals, stuns/recalls/frostbites on their attack round, or gives value a la tough--is bad for them and good for you. Radiant Guardian is particularly good.
When they get low on gas, they'll often play Glimpse Beyond on a chump to draw 2 cards. It's often worth it to either Deny that or to interrupt with a fast spell that kills the chump first: the latter will cause the spell to fizzle and deny them the draws.
Good luck!
EDIT: Mobalytics / EG Swim just released their LoR meta report which has Dawnspiders as top-tier and SI/Noxus aggro spiders as just below that, so maybe I understated how prevalent they are at high ranks? /shrug. I'm ~mid-rank myself so I'm going off of what I see from streamers and youtuber vids. I do think the Fearsome / Hecarim deck packs a bigger punch than straight spiders, but that's just personal observation.
I'll be interested to see how the continued experiments with Aggro/Whip Warrior and Dragon (non-HL). Warrior, in particular, I think has a lot of potential.
I enjoy Pathfinder in Apex Legends and Widomaker in Overwatch. They both use grappling hooks, which are awesome in my opinion. Although I've never played it, the art for the video game Shovel Knight is pretty cool. So I decided to combine my favorite video game weapon with an awesome title and there we go ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The main reason Flark is better is you can buff the bombs the turn you play it (after 9 Mana) which is very scary. Shu'ma will just be 1:1's at the end of your turn so it's less good for ending the game.
I hope we can see some reversions soon of past nerfs. Clearly they over did it with shaman. Wouldn't mind seeing some soon to be wild cards get reverted too (looking at Dr boom)
I would say its practically necessary to have at least 2 cards for unit removal in any deck, and if you have limited options Detain is serviceable. I would never call Detain an auto-include, though--if collection size wasn't a factor, there are are probably more well-rounded options (VengenceBADCARDNAME, Will of Ionia, Thermogenic Beam) and cheaper options with a small caveat (Black Spear, Culling Strike, Noxian Guillotine) for any faction combination. As BlueSpark says, it compares well to a 5-mana version of Vengeance with the drawback that the unit can come back. As Nighmare says, its less powerful if you don't have durable units and/or protection spells, but even then sometimes just treating it like a fast speed stun + buff reset is enough.
Nearly 20 years later, Valkyrie Profile remains one of my top 5 favorite games ever. I played Pokemon way too much, and Shuckle is one of my favourites. I love how stupidly polarised its stats are (insane defenses, terrible everything else), and liked the idea that even if it gets angry it is so pathetic at attacking that it cannot really do anything about it (the move 'power trick' notwithstanding).
I use the username as a reminder that no matter how angry I could get playing HS, I cannot do anything about whatever caused it, and nor can it actually do anything meaningful to me.
Then I made it super nerdy by using the nickname of the gift Shuckle from Cianwood city in Gold and Silver. 'Shuckie' is so thinly veiled that anyone who knows the Pokemon will know what I meant, and anyone equally nerdy as me will know what I really meant.
