  • What's the most broken deck EVER?

Probably Star alligner Druid, that deck was just so insanely fast at comboing you down, another deck that comes to mind would be sniplock.

If standard only its between raza priest and unnerfed galakrond shaman

  • What's everyone think so far of the free-to-play system!?

I hope no one takes this the wrong way, but I'm wondering how much people are playing if their Vault is Level 11+ in one week?  I feel penalized because I can't always play a lot on some days.  I mean the game just came out and the decks I have vs. the decks I play against are not even close (in terms of card quality and quantity); and I imagine this will just get more lopsided as the weeks go on.

I think I reached Level 5 (or 6?) in the first week.  Right now I'm at Level 6 with 1300/2000 toward Level 7.

Anyway, so far I only purchased the Starter Pack for $4.99.  I'll keep trying the (mostly) F2P on my account and see how it goes.

Jade Druid single handedly ruined the Gadgetzan meta IMO.

  • So I just played the new Reno...

I was playing the dungeon run and queen wagtoggle played burgle and got reno and played it. She proceeded the wreck herself with RNG spells until I killed her a couple turns later. It turned a fight I was going to have to struggle with beating since my deck had some dope minions for her to steal and play for free. Into a joke.

Also, pity timer of the sets does not work with them

Pretty sure ppl reported it did work, so the pity timers are in fact tied to the type of pack, not a set itself, which makes sense ... Golden Classic pack has a separate one outside of regular Classic packs too (if there is any at all for it, but this latest blunder would suggest there actually might be).

In the end, you have to get lucky with opening normal packs too: someone hits the pity timer immediately, someone has to wait 38 packs to get Mindflayer Kaahrj (I pity that guy, I wonder who he is...). But yeah, explaining it to certain people might be quite troublesome...

Hey man, Mindflayer Kaahrj is a great card.... when you pick it up randomly.... and there's a good enemy minion to duplicate.... and you don't have any better plays available.... and.... and....  ok, I give up.

Star Aligner Druid is highly overrated. The moment the meta responded to it in any measure, be it through Deathlords, Dirty Rats or such, the deck completely fell to pieces since essentially the only minions it ran were the ones it needed for the combo. Druid's draw was so good that it really didn't need anything else, most card draw minions were severely subpar compared to the tools Druid had. Plus, the moment the Druid player used Psychmelon, they completely telegraphed they are open to getting Ratted. Once it became clear that Star Aligner Druids are a considerable part of the meta, control and combo decks started including Dirty Rats and all of a sudden, that deck became unplayable. I don't think there has been a single combo deck in the history of the game that has been that vulnerable to disruption.

Star Aligner druid was still a very strong deck even when every deck ran 2 copies of dirty rat. Really, the only thing they could pull that would destroy your combo was Aviana or Kun. And even when they pulled aviana sometimes you could just drop a combo right then. The thing that made the deck so strong is that you never actually needed the whole combo to kill your opponent. If you didn't have a second star aligner then you could play loatheb so that they couldn't cast a board clear and just sit there with 29/31 worth of stats and all of their spells cost 10 more mana. Sometimes they were already at low health and so you didn't even need brann.

Another thing is that there was so much ramp that you could potentially get the OTK out on turn 4. Sure, playing psychmelon was a clear sign to your opponent that you were holding combo pieces, but at that point they may have easily only drawn 10 cards because you could get the combo online so fast. Also, as I mentioned above, if they pulled a star aligner, or brann, or loatheb, or in some cases aviana, you would still be okay.

Is it actually worth it having beasts alongside Hadronox even though Witching Hour could revive something else that is not Hadronox?

    Quote From katiegervari

I don't think there's any problem with Greenglade Duo for example. If your deck can't kill a x/2 or a x/3 after 1 or 2 buffs, then your deck deserves to lose.

So, you are saying that every single deck that isn't based on elusive or challenger minions deserves to lose? Well, that's terrible balance

In that respect, Snip-Snap Lock seems to be a much better fit because it was much harder to counter, and even if they couldn't OTK you because you kept clearing their mechs every turn, they could still just generate a board you couldn't really recover from without an unconditional board clear like Plague of Death. And obviously, they'd do it much sooner than turn 9.

I'd personally go much further back, and say that the most busted decks for their time were Combo Druid (Force of Nature + Savage Roar) and Patron OTK. Both decks were often waved off by idiots with the words "just play taunts and they're done, lol". That argument was bullshit. At the time, Druid's midgame minions were sufficiently hard to remove that it was nearly impossible to ensure that you can consistently keep their board clear or that you wouldn't take damage to your face to drop you to 14. Anything they had left on their board the turn they decide to OTK you just increased the damage potential of the combo and made sure no board of taunts you had could stop them. Essentially, all classes were playing against 30 health opponents, Druid was playing against 16 health opponents. As for Patron...your board didn't matter, the only thing that mattered was their APM. If they were fast enough, they'd kill you from no board and with you having full health and there wasn't shit you could do about it.

Edit: Forgot about Machine Gun Priest. That was possibly the most unpleasant HS has ever been to play for me. And that's counting now when I'm getting constant disconnects for no reason. Better disconnects than getting pinged down for 0 mana.

  • So I just played the new Reno...

    Quote From YourPrivateNightmare

How many turns did you get with the Hero power?

Did it notably backfire at any point or did it just average out?

Honestly I'M really curious how Reno will affect Mage decks. If he's genuinely good enough as a lategame option we might just see more unconventional decks that just rely on randomness to close out the game (or just extened it enough to win through other means)

Like I said, the game lasted very little, but that was also because I got ridiculously lucky against the Mage by the end.

I dropped The Amazing Reno to clear a single Malygos (wonder how that works with Big Priest and resurrections, there was no death sound or animation)

The first spell was a Multi-Shot that killed a Sorcerer's Apprentice and a Mana Wyrm

Second spell was a Splitting Image that never popped

Third spell was an Upgrade! to my Spectral Cutlass. I then shifted to Galakrond and used the witchy lackey to get a Doomguard for lethal (like I said, I was really lucky)

As far as my one experience went, I have no complaints lol

  • My first impressions playing LoR

I really appreciate people helping me out and giving me advice.  Thank you.  I guess I was frustrated because other people have really good decks.  I don't know...maybe they just play A LOT!!!

I will definitely stick with it.  Like I said, it will be difficult to add a third card game.  Probably won't have time to play all three; certainly don't have the money : /

Well, some people are saying it's generous with the rewards; they're probably right.  Maybe I just need to play more.  I think since I've been playing Magic and Hearthstone so long AND put money into them, I expect to be able to have a competitive deck in every game I play  O_o

You need to make sure that the Depth Charges go off, so you'll need Holomancer to copy them for your opponent.

  • What's the most broken deck EVER?

    I just think about mtg.

I know that's not what you asked for, but I immediately think about Oko, that was played in 61% of the decks before he was banned in every possible format. That's how powerful a card can be.

But about hearthstone, I love the game just because the stupid, meme combos, and star aligner druid is exactly that combo. I don't know how it became the best deck in the meta. The problem with combo meme decks is consistency, but I really love combos

  • Have a Wild Hearthstone Weekend with Fresh Decks!

Wait, why do you need holomancer to trigger the combo? Couldn't you just play treachery on a second wrathguard? Either way your opponent still ends up with two wrathguards on their board. This way just costs more mana and dust.

  • So I just played the new Reno...

There is a thread for that. I did this mistake too and created a thread of my own.

To me what happened was that my opponent got Chaos Gazer from an Unstable Portal

No, unfortunately you're not a pessimist. On average people tend to see the glass half empty rather than half full, and so every single occasion in which someone doesn't get the most out of it justifies a complaint.

Remember the Ragnaros card back drama? Or the Winter Veil brawl that rewards with a Classic pack only people who already own Winter veil wreath?

In the end, you have to get lucky with opening normal packs too: someone hits the pity timer immediately, someone has to wait 38 packs to get Mindflayer Kaahrj (I pity that guy, I wonder who he is...). But yeah, explaining it to certain people might be quite troublesome...

  • My first impressions playing LoR

This is the 2nd Riot game I've tried, and it's tough transitioning from Blizzard to Riot. Blizzard is light years ahead in terms of artistic design, smoothness of game play, and things like lore and humor.

Runeterra seems pretty good, but it is clunky compared to HS. New cards, so new synergies to explore. But the basic strategies carry over. There are burn decks, token decks, aggro decks, control, etc. I quickly threw a token deck together with buff spells and cheap minions, and it seems to be working fine.
