  • My first impressions playing LoR

    Quote From N0Sp00n22

So I want to give LoR a chance to prove itself (to me).  I know some people already enjoy it.  I've played quite a few matches vs. the AI to get my "feet wet".  Building up XP and unlocking a few cards and some wildcards...not many though...I don't see this game, IMHO, being very generous to F2P.  With that said, maybe I will get many more "Rewards" as I play more and begin to attempt to build decks.

I've looked online and any of the "good" Meta decks are not even close to being craftable for me.  I don't have anywhere near the number of cards needed.  So I looked up budget decks...once again, I don't have enough cards and/or wildcards to create these either  = (

So I took a starter deck and updated it the best I could.  Went into play mode and got absolutely destroyed.  The decks I faced were MUCH better than mine and they seemed to have an answer for everything.  Granted I've only played a handful of Normal games and a couple of Ranked games; but I want to keep playing and see where I can go with the game.

However, as I probably stated before, I have a lot of time and money invested in both Arena and HS (and I enjoy both games); so I really don't see Runeterra pulling me in.  I won't give up on it yet though.

I apologize if this comes across as just complaining -- btw, it probably does  : /

If anyone has any good websites or advice for a beginning Runeterra player with other card game experience (e.g. me...LOL), I would be happy to listen to people that probably know a lot more than I do.  Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for any assistance  : )

Continue playing, you won't get a competitive deck on day 1.. specially when everyone else is playing a week+ just try to get wins with the starter decks for now.. or go against AI for the first week or so.. you should aim for level 4 rewards on each set that way  you will get enough to craft any deck you want (except legendaries)

  • So I just played the new Reno...

How many turns did you get with the Hero power?

Did it notably backfire at any point or did it just average out?

Honestly I'M really curious how Reno will affect Mage decks. If he's genuinely good enough as a lategame option we might just see more unconventional decks that just rely on randomness to close out the game (or just extened it enough to win through other means)

The player base isn't 100 million players, that's just the total amount of accounts. Hearthstone at its prime, years ago, was maybe 60% of that.

I get that and i agree it would have been pretty cool to have it as a brawl reward, but then you would see posts about how unfair it was that someone got the legendary from the 1st pack and others didnt and how now they are "forced" to buy the bundle otherwise they cant get to the pity timer and so on and so on, ppl always find a way to complain about everything :D or maybe im just a pessimist :)

  • What's the most broken deck EVER?

Both Star Aligner and Sn1plock come to mind. Both basically took over the meta the instant they were conceived and required an instant nerf to their core mechanics (in the case of Sn1p-Sn4p they had to implement a specific clause to prevent the combo from existing)

Undertaker Hunter should also be mentioned. Granted, by today'S Standards it would probably be pretty average, but back then a 1-drop that snowballed you into submission without any real counterplay was pretty busted.

Then there's the Razakus OTK Priest which was basically every OTK deck ever but combined with the ability to chip you down every turn to the point where even excessive armor stacking couldn't beat it (cue the infamous tournament game where Kolento I believe stacked thrice his health in armor as Druid and still lost)

Finally there's Quest Rogue, a deck so strong it had to be nerfed twice and still came back both times. I would call that one the most broken purely because it ruled an entire meta and basically made Control decks impossible to play and forced even tempo decks to be more aggressive than they otherwise would. Conceptually it was probably was one of the worst designed decks ever (after Sniplock, which I believe was just the devs being idiots and not realizing that that combo even existed)

150k packs sold. Considering there's 100million player base but i would say only like 10% actually play it whats the math? I mean if theres around 5 to 10million active each week 150k packs sold means 10 to 20% of the players bought it. I would say thats a lot. In f2p games if 10 to 20% of player base actually spend money i would say thats successful.

I just hope this doesn't encourages them to release more paying adventures each set.

Well, you only just started the game, so I would say just keep on playing and grinding rewards until you can build a good deck.

The only way to gain anything in life is to either invest money, or time. You cannot play for only a week and expect to be able to build the top meta decks.

Keep on playing for at least a couple of weeks to get the vault rewards, and if you aren't having fun and you don't enjoy the game, then stop playing it.

    Yeah your point is valid.

In the end what brought me to write a post is the charm of the new, in other words something that we've never seen before and that would have been cool to open just for the sake of doing it. Nothing more, nothing less.

Maybe they are testing the waters how will players like a pack like this, they can then create different combinations down the road.

Tho that being said, they are mostly only good for new players (which is good) and to get your guaranteed legendary in first 10 packs. If you are a regular player, chances are you would rather get packs from the newest expansions, since whatever else is in a "year pack" you might already have, or at least it would be more than regular chance on a duplicate.

So in the end, while really a cool design, we are not losing that much here by not having them in the shop.

  • What's the most broken deck EVER?

In standard, unnerfed Galakrond shaman might well be it. It is certainly not the only time a deck/class has been completely dominant, but it was the only time I have ever chosen to avoid playing the game for a couple of weeks, and that was at the start of an expansion when I should have been making the most of all the new cards and an unrefined, diverse meta.

  • So I just played the new Reno...

Apparently burgle cards include unreleased ones in the database. Gotta say, I rather liked him for a first impression. The battlecry, in particular, feels very strong, but it's the hero power that will keep things interesting. The match ended shortly afterwards, but still, it was a nice glimpse.

  • Rerolling event quests

Always reroll the 60g event quests: the worst that could happen is getting another 60g quest, so there's no point in not taking the gamble!

  • In Just Two Days Blizzard Sells 150,000 Dragon Masters Bundles - Prize Pool Cap Obtained for the 2020 Masters Tour

Those packs are kind of cool. It's sad that Blizz decided to completely lock them behind a paywall.

Not that I want to complain for every single thing but, like someone wrote under an article a few days ago, it would have been great if this week's brawl rewarded one of these "Year of the Dragon" packs.

Oh well, maybe we'll get them in the shop once the rotation hits in order to help the newcomers get some cards from the Standard year they weren't playing the game. Now that I think of it, it would help a lot.

  • What's the most broken deck EVER?

I think it's a head to head between Star Druid and Sniplock.

To be honest I think that whereas the former was on average faster, the latter was a lot more consistent and annoying too (you had to put up with a ton of animations and see if you opponent had the proper APM in order to OTK you).

Both busted, both stupid, both exploited the respective classes' strength (mana generation, card draw and combo potential for Star Druid; card draw, removal and again OTK potential for Sniplock).

One thing that I remember with Star Druid is that sometimes not even aggro was an effective choice, since that deck has some insane tools against SMOrc (2 mana Wild Growth, Ferocious Howl and Branching Paths; all supported by Juicy Psychmelon).

Aviana + Kun the Forgotten King didn't deserve the nerf for that exact deck (the problem was clearly a certain spell released a month before that was able to draw the whole combo for just 4 mana), but my opinion is that it would have become problematic sooner or later nonetheless.

  • Depth Charge OTK!

I'm glad you finally started messing around in Wild! Always fun to see the OTK's you come up with!

I totally agree that they could be doing more in the terms of exposure, having an arena ticket be a quest reward, similar to a Classic Pack, has been suggested for the longest time, but i also like your idea of having it in the season chest reward.

And while i would LOVE to have something similar to ranked season chest for arena, the problem is, that the top arena players would farm ridiculous amounts of rewards from such system, which to be honest, those players wouldnt probably even need, but i think that is what is stopping Blizzard from implementing such a thing. I hope they do it sooner rather than later, but they never did pay enough attention to the Arena in a first place. It got better in last 2 or so years, but it has a long way to go.

  • Hearthstone's February 2020 Season Begins - Get The Desert Bloom Card Back!

There are lots of things I’d like to change in Arena, but probably the most urgent is the reward structure. In most games (*cough* Runeterra *cough*), you’ll feel like you got something out of a run even if you only did ok. In Hearthstone, if you complete an “average” 3-win run, you’ll get rewards worth approximately the cost of your ticket. But the randomly-chosen pack probably isn’t the one you would have bought yourself, so it feels like it wasn’t quite worth the cost. That’s not how a game should leave you feeling after paying an entry fee AND an hour or two of time.

    My humble suggestions:

    • Make the current Arena reward structure slightly better. Nothing too crazy, but at least make sure a 3-win run feels good.
    • Give out Arena tickets more often: Bundled into special offers, found in the occasional daily quest, maybe even in your ranked chest at the end of the month. And people who buy tickets with money should have a bulk discount option.
    • The big one: Add monthly rewards for Arena performance. Track total wins across all your Arena runs, with rewards for your 5th, 10th, etc. win. Also maybe a bonus for whatever your best run of the month was.
  • Have a Wild Hearthstone Weekend with Fresh Decks!

FrostyFeet, thanks as always for the Wild Spotlights, it's great that wild gets some attention!

    I second this.

That deck was crazy powerful. It was very fast and consistent. Every deck was running Loathebs and Dirty Rats to try and counter the deck but most of the time that wasn't even enough.

  • What's the most broken deck EVER?

    Sn1p-Lock

IMO, not even Star Aligner had such consistency

And it would be even more broken nowadays with Dark Skies
