  • Dont know why so many hated this brawl, my best guess is that the games are long and the mechanics arent easily understood.

    Here's a few observations;

    - An egg will spawn every start of the turn, which will hatch the following turn. Hatching is the same as transforming, the egg loses all buffs

    - An egg will always spawn into a 1/3 bunny if a dye isn't used on it. Sometimes this can be an advantage, because ...

    - ...the eggs will hatch into random minions, but the minion quality will improve as the game progresses. So if you dumped your dyes early you'll likely get it on a 1 drop or 2 drop which is a complete waste. There's something to be said about holding on to the dyes for the later stages of the game

    - Noblegarden spoon is very weak early on. Never keep on mulligan. Goblin on the other hand is decent early, but useless later. The bird is a fine 6 drop, but very slow as it has no rush. Depending on the class, you might want to mull the whole hand to get some decent cards as you wait for the late game to spend your dyes.

If you think these games are slow, just wait until the tavern brawl that involves raven idol rotates back.

  • Its a known bug that should have been addressed in the recent patch (you can read it in the patch notes). Its actually infamous, along with the nellie bug. The moment you dont see the discover option come out you need to immediately restart hearthstone, otherwise you'd be seeing lots of mouse-overs but your turn never really ends (which signals that something went wrong). On mobile this is especially deadly.

Guess this one slipped past the patch. Either that, or you encountered this before the patch went live.

  • Im afraid that response may be a clue as to how many people are actually in QA at the moment. I think its fair to ask that a company who's charging for a product to have done some rudimentary testing before releasing it.

Perhaps its time blizz consider giving battlegrounds (and perhaps mercs as well) its own client and servers. If the codes are as convoluted as it seems then adding more stuff cant possibly be the answer. As Dean has mentioned before, there's some concern about hearthstone's game file size (especially for mobile users). So why not just split the game. Its not like anyone would be constantly bouncing thru and fro hearthstone hearthstone and hearthstone battlegrounds.

  • The only thing left now is to ask whether there would be a bug that actually allows you to have more than 30 cards in your deck in future.

  • So as have been reported by others, we can't actually play the new bounties in mercs. Just get an error message and booted out.

Now we'll need a patch to fix this patch  -__-

  • Yeah, that makes sense. Thanks for the explanation.

  • The choose your own cardback pool is pretty smart. Considering that there's probably two hundred of them now, with less than 10 favorites in total, its nice to know that I'll be seeing only those I like rather than the deluge of others I dont.

Golden card upgrades...probably more of an option for whales. Most of us minnows are grateful to simply have a copy at all. Im not going to slag team5 for reducing costs, but in this case Im not entirely certain its smart. Most players that go out on their way to get golden cards tend to be big spenders or otherwise already really invested in the game, so its kinda like giving tax breaks to rich people. How many players ultimately benefit from such a change at all, compared to the gains they'd make from getting these whales to buy packs for it?

  • - No standard changes. Bummer. Perhaps too soon after the last?

    - Heroic brawliseum is, in my opinion, an unwelcome sight. If Im not mistaken, you dont even get the first run for free, and the admission fee is an eye watering 1000 gold. The meta currently isn't really all that diverse, the most decks that aren't naga dhunter and control warrior tends to have at least one very polarizing matchup. Not exactly conducive to auto lose every now and again. I cannot for the life of me understand why'd they do it now. Why not just the regular brawliseum, which is at least more accessible.

    - Is there a change to how refresh works in mercs? They list a few changes here like blink fox's mana blink. What does "Your characters’ abilities Refresh (5)" even mean compared the old "refresh your mercs abilities".

    - Nzoth merc is probably good in pvp, but perhaps a little too limited in pve. At least its free, and the portraits looks really nice.

Ive a tiny feeling in my gut that tells me three additional features = lots of bugs incoming. Let's hope for no game breaking ones like nellie.

  • Just a few comments.

Dragon pally is not unfavored vs quest hunter by virtue of 2x Holy Maki Roll alone. In fact, if you dump cards like Mr. Smite (your win con is Kazakusan) for Amber Watcher, you're even more favored against it.

The list featured here is currently the most popular dragon pally in hsreplay. But by no means the better deck. I think the best list plays midrange, going for kazakusan as fast as possible. No smite, no bannerman, no righteous defense.

Quest priest is something I've been seeing a lot as of late, but I have absolutely no idea why. Its win rate is shown to be good, but after facing quite a number of it last week I think its not really worth the bother at all. Its not even necessarily good against the two decks that its supposed to be beating; control warrior and naga dhunter.

If there's any priest deck that deserves any mention at all its boar priest. A deck, played well, that can do exceptionally against all the current top meta decks. Hard loses to anacondra druid and warlock, but these decks are hardly ever seen so its a good tradeoff.

I think an argument can be made for a few shaman list here. There's currently two builds; the usual burn shaman with Bioluminescence and the very funny mutanus shaman. Both hard loses to quest hunter, but otherwise decent against nearly everything else, which is to say, not embarrassingly bad as the current state of warlock is.

  • If you scroll your merc collections for fighters, at some point your game will hang and then when its back you'll notice that slyvannas' portrait will be pitch black. I think this only happens with the normal, non golden portrait.

I notice the same for bluegill warrior too.

Also, if trigore doesn't get a cooldown nerf on backlash I'll be very surprised. This one merc dominates pvp with none but one move and unsurprisingly it doesn't attack. That's what separates it from mr smite, which has nearly the same move. Wonder when team5 will start noticing that attackers are at a huge disadvantage in mercs.

  • Well, I was thinking of how much longer we have to stand for this meta and turns out its until next Tuesday. Nice. Most interesting would be to see how team5 deals with Drek'Thar, having sold him for an unprecedented 25 bucks. Turns out that a neutral call to arms with an insane play/draw win rate isn't exactly healthy for the game.

I wouldn't be too surprised if quest hunter gets nerfed too, just because how many non games it creates.

And perhaps more importantly, bug fixes. A major problem as of late. Among which are both sylvannas in mercs, and blue gill warrior's pics being cursed apparently. All Im seeing are black pics, and whenever they come out the game hangs for about 10 seconds. That, and the infamous nellie bug. Can't wait to see what's next.

  • They'd probably have to do it anyway, because certain bugs like azshara and nellie breaks games. It even featured in the last masters tour. Imagine having to deal with this for the next 2 weeks.

  • There's potential comedy material in having him speak nothing but nurglish. But given that most hearthstone animations are fairly limited, having him speak english is likely the better choice.

  • With the additions of colossal minions, its just an instant win if you somehow manage to get even one out early. But this being one of the better brawls (short, easy, and random) Im not exactly going to complain.

    In reply to Cloneball!
  • If you can cheapen it by 1, then you can double pyro their face with the treasure from Queen Azshara

But generally I find reducing their health to below 10 and then pyro their face is unusually easy unless you're facing an aggro deck.

  • Honestly, this is even more underwhelming than diablo immortal, which at very least resembles somewhat like a game blizzard would release. This game on the other hand looks like something I'd see from youtube ads.

  • Its actually amazing that the nellie bug was actually caught on video, and yet the game was never halted or restarted despite the player losing his turn. We've seen bugs on stream before, but never one that actually skips a whole turn. Surely there has to be some guidelines about stuff like these, because the game seemingly gets more buggier after each patch.

Hopefully a quick fix comes out, because control warrior is only going to get more popular, and Im tired of losing from bs disconnects and bugs.

  • Probably not because even if we have it'll be so niche it wont see any play. But we do have something like Kobold Stickyfinger if it helps

  • Elden ring's final boss should have followed bloodborne's Gerhman -> moon presence structure, in that after beating radagon and then dying to elden beast you shouldn't have to beat radagon again. That way they can justify making elden beast a more interesting boss. In a sense, the real final boss in terms of difficulty and interest is actually melania, because fromsoft didn't have to compromise anything with her design

    Back to hearthstone;

I really hope the rotating wild set doesn't come up the way Dean envisioned it. Each expansion is designed with classic in mind, and having us play with the cards available in each individual expansion would probably be too limiting. Is it really too much to just rotate between three expansions at a time?

As for Drek'Thar, it's just impossible to ever nerf it. Partly because of the cosmetic fiasco, and partly because the only real way to nerf this card without drastically altering its function and win rate, is to give it a stat nerf. Would we see the card banned from standard? That's one way to handle it I suppose, and provides easy excuses for not giving out refunds.

My prediction is that team5 will simply nerf decks that commonly play drek'thar instead. Like quest hunter and naga dhunter, simply because in my opinion management will likely never allow a 25 bucks card to ever lose value.

  • I wanted to incorporate some disruption for the dredge keyword and came out with this. Basically you're swapping a card from your opponent's hand with something of your choosing, which usually is advantageous to you, since your opponent can potentially lose a key minion in place for a situational card. So you're disrupting his next turn, and potentially neutering his next dredge, assuming he still wants the minion back.

    Descriptions a bit long, unfortunately.

Edit: Made some changes as others have suggested. It may look like a complicated description because its long, but I think the effect is fairly simply: dredge for the opponent, they replace a card in their hand for what you choose. Appreciate the feedback though.
