Upon further investigation, it turns out that last year's duplicate protection changes happened while I was on a break from the game. I did read news stories about it, but never the official posts, so I didn't quite get the full story. News sites didn't see fit to spell out the details about golden vs non-golden, so I missed that piece of the puzzle. I was still going by my knowledge of the old system.
The wording "throughout the day" would not seem to indicate "first come first served."
In the past, I've seen them do something like tell people to type a certain word in chat, and they pick a winner from everyone who participates. That makes it so lurkers running the stream in the background do not get codes.
There's no need to craft them, no risk of finding them later. We'll get Mankrik and Diamond Samuro at launch. Those won't show up in packs due to duplicate protection.
The only risk was to get those from packs at the pre-release event, and Blizzard covered it by allowing full-disenchant.
Golden and normal cards are tracked separately for the purposes of duplicate protection. Presumably, diamond has its own separate tracking as well (though duplicate protection isn't really necessary for diamond cards).
So yes, you could open a golden Mankrik or either type of Samuro after you already have the free ones.
So how many different post are there out there now? 3 types, so possibly 6 in a deck - if I am not mistaken
Yes, enough to give Kargal Battlescar six Lookouts -- a full board of medium-sized minions that don't have Taunt or Rush. Congrats, sorry you're dead the next turn.
I'm glad some of DH's original OP cards are getting downgraded in Barrens. It seems like the staples of so many other classes are actually getting upgrades.
As a reminder: Cards you have obtained and disenchanted still count as "obtained" for the purposes of duplicate protection. So if you are planning to buy the Tavern Pass but do not expect to obtain a full set of Barrens cards right away, it is in your best interest to find a normal/golden Samuro now and get him into the "obtained" pool. Otherwise, you run the risk of finding him after the full-refund window has closed, and you'll only get the standard 400 for him. Get him into the pool now, and you won't see him again until you've collected all the other legendaries in the set.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this also means that if you have the dust available, you can craft and immediately dust the normal and golden versions of Samuro (as well as golden Mankrik) during the first week if you don't want them showing up in packs after the full-refund window has closed.
EDIT: Turns out most of this was wrong/unnecessary! Only the bold part is worth knowing.
The rule is: If it can be crafted, it can be disenchanted.
Normal Mankrik comes only from the Reward Track. It cannot be crafted. It would be a HUGE mistake if they allowed you to destroy a card you cannot get back. (In this case, the golden version of Mankrik can be crafted. Do you really want to have to do that if you dust the one you get from the Reward Track and change your mind later?)
I just noticed that the Mage spell pool is really, really good as we enter the Year of the Gryphon. This is actually quite strong for a Core card.
I can't believe Caravans aren't listed in the Quick Info section as an exciting new kind of card.
Oh, wait, yes I can.

Good to know -- thank you for pointing it out!
For Nature and Holy at least, there's definitely a need to build around the concept if you want to take advantage of the payoffs.
Arguably, Frost and Freeze are so intertwined that they form a strategy even though it's not explicitly tied together by the school concept.
Tamsin Roame is more of a Shadow package than a build-around, for sure.
Yes.

Are these coming to the shop in any particular order? I'd love to get the ones that came before and after this one.
Second worst after the Xmas one. I'm going to have to Shadowstep my Flik.
I want to use Flik Skyshiv on this awful card back.
It's not even average. It's slightly below average.
You have to work pretty hard to get the full payoff, which turns out to be significantly worse than a corrupted clown. What a disappointment.

All of this deathrattle stuff is nice in the early game, but the ultimate payoff seems a bit lackluster.
Of course, I don't mind, because Demon Hunter is a smelly evil class.
I know he's Malfurion's twin, but does Illidan have to be such a copycat? Druid's been doing basically this for the past two years.
Great value -- and the targeted draw may be useful in decks outside the Deathrattle archetype.

I love Elementals, and I really REALLY love this lil guy!
Even works great in Priest on turn 1 to get your golden shower out early!
Good, not amazing. Better for druid than shaman, but having options is nice.
