The Hearthstone team has announced that Battlegrounds is getting a balance update tomorrow, June 18!
Several battlegrounds minions and heroes are receiving changes. Let's take a look at what is going to change with the patch.
June 18 Battlegrounds Hero Changes
- Lord Jaraxxus' Hero Power costs 1 Gold, down from 2.
- Reno Jackson's Hero Power costs 2 Gold, down from 3.
- Millificient Manastorm's Passive Hero Power now grants mechs +1/+1 instead of +2 Attack.
- Maiev Shadowsong is receiving the following change.
- Dormant minions no longer reduce the number of minions you see when refreshing Bob’s Tavern (Unless you’re at Tier 6 and have 2 Dormant minions in play, then it will reduce by 1).
- Fixed two separate issues that caused the Hero Powers for Lady Vashj and Maiev Shadowsong to trigger unintended effects in the shop phase.
Here is what all the new hero powers are going to look like.
June 18 Battlegrounds Minion Changes
- Scavenging Hyena is being moved to Tavern Tier 1. Previously was Tier 2.
- Rabid Saurolisk is being moved to Tavern Tier 2. Previously was Tier 1.
- Monstrous Macaw is being moved to Tavern Tier 3. Previously was Tier 2.
- Fixed an issue where the Deathrattle for Sneed's Old Shredder was not summoning newly added Legendary minions.
Here are all the new tavern tiers as seen on card images.

Its always good to see battle ground changes, would appreciate this if it happened more often.
Still sad that mechs is the only tribe that is completely useless end game :(
The Macaw change is not enough.
The card turns the game into pure casino, where whoever gets to go first, deals 15-20 dmg to the opponent.
You can even guarantee it gets to attack if you tech in a Divine Shield/Taunt. Then only a few cards can kill it, mostly pings.
The change does two things to the Macaw Goldrinn build, which is insanely easy to do as long as you can find the Goldrinn, since there are SO many Macaws in the pool. By making it a tier 3 unit, it makes it so that the swings from the macaw come at least 3-4 turns later, reducing the damage spikes in the early game, and giving more time to assemble builds. It moving to tier 3 also reduces the number in the pool, making it harder to see, and way harder to golden. I've been in games where multiple people had golden Macaws, it was crazy. Overall, I think its a pretty good change.
Agreed that the change is a good start, but I have finished a couple of games today where multiple players had the build going and were tossing out all competition. It’s too strong of a build that is so easy to build.
- Macaw
- Hydra
- Wolf
- Rivendare
That's the nuts. Multiples/Golds of any of the pieces identifies which person with the build is most likely to win.
They heard me :
Remember when Jaraxxus's HP costed 3 mana? I do
Maybe a month from now it will cost 0.
And it will likely still suck because every hero that is tied to a single tribe inevitably lives or dies by their ability to get that tribe going ASAP. Which is entirely dependent on randomness and outside of your control.
needed and appreciated
in my opinion: Nice
Millificent was pretty broken before nerf, but right now mechs aren't as good, so maybe she is ok now?
Yeah, a lot has changed since then. The overall power level has crept upwards. She'll be pretty good now, not broken, I don't think.
All around, pretty good changes. I don't think the buff to Reno will be enough for him to see play, but the buff to Maiev and Lord Jeraxxus will make them a lot better. I am glad to see the Saurolisk and the Macaw nerfed because Deathrattle stuff is pretty powerful right now. And the buff to Scavenging Hyena, while unexpected, is a very good change.
