While I was checking out about Scholomance on Wowpedia, Gandling was one of the character that caught my eye due to his aesthetics so it's definitely a pleasant surprise to see him in card form. Alongside him being very powerful and useful, I really like the card art (Currently second-favorite). Might possibly golden craft him when I get the dust.
Vanilla stats and a ridiculously powerful effect that synergizes with deathrattles and tiny units. Clearly great for both Priest and Warlock.
Just a few Deathrattle shenanigans coming.
Wow, I'm scared of this.
What drugs are you on, Team 5? I want some.
So this is basically a cheaper and more versatile version than Dark Pharaoh Tekahn, but the effect only last as long as this is on board.
The scariest thing about this card is not the 4/4 it creates but that its a 3/6 for 4, and that's sticky as hell. If this manages to survive somehow until the next turn, its basically game over assuming you build your deck around it.
Clearly this card can only fit into zoo type decks, as the normal midrange priest and warlock decks tend to have better minions than a 4/4 and this card is unlikely to survive more than 1 turn anyway. Can priest actually manage a tempo deck this time round? This card certainly helps it along if nothing else. I see some touting that it triggers deathrattles, but since the deathrattle minion actually dies, this doesn't exactly give value and might actually make it worst by removing your security against a board wipe.
I'm a little conflicted over whether this is just a good card, or completely insane. On one hand the card is clearly capable of winning games on its own, and on the other it doesn't seem like its capable of giving enough value to beat control decks, so Dark Pharaoh Tekahn always just seem like the better choice between the two.
Comparable to Houndmaster Shaw.
Not the same thing ofc, but very similar, as one provides initiative while the other provides stats: both aim for board dominance, and they do it at the same cost for the same body.
He used to be a cooking teacher, problem was he only knew how to make omelets.
oh god
OH GOD
This + Nerubian Egg = 6 mana 11/14
If it said summon instead of play it would be bonkers. But as is, it is just meh. Hard to combo in the early game. Need to be able to play a lot of cheap minions in the late game to make it worth, which means having a lot of cards in hand. I guess a lackey-based Warlock could, but still not too impressed.
Never heard of eggs and other deathrattles like them? Priest has a couple of strong deathrattle minions like Convincing Infiltrator you can even use it with Psychopomp to turn his 3/1 body into a 4/4 while still getting it's battlecry effect. It's even better in Warlock with the new Boneweb Egg, Expired Merchant and Eager Underling.
Plenty of options in neutral cards too! Loot Hoarder get's +2/+3 and draws you a card straight away, Serpent Egg is absolutely insane as it gives you 3/4 and a 4/4 now for 2 mana! Teron Gorefiend kills all your current deathrattle minions on board and resummons them all with +1/+1 so cards like Leper Gnome and Kobold Sandtrooper could also see play with this new legendary.
I'm curious as to how it will work with dormant minions. But yeah I'd say this is a 5 star card.
My brain is tired today, but I'm pretty sure there's no good way to interact with Teron Gorefiend.
We've already seen Teron Gorefiend make it into aggro decks with eggs and leper gnomes/kobold sandtroopers, this new legendary makes Teron's effect instant! you don't get stuck with the loss of tempo from having just a 3/4 on board. Gandling works with Battlecries too because the card's text says "after" you play a minion.
see...the problem is that Teron destroys Gandling...and since Gandling's effect takes place, as you pointed out, AFTER battlecries, Teron will just gobble up Gandling and stay there until he is killed.
It's also worth mentioning that Egg decks typically don't want to actually crack their own Eggs - they play them, buff them, trigger them, get lots of value off of them, and when they inevitably crack on board, you get a bonus 4/4, a 5/5 a 3/4, etc. It's possible that the new card will see play in Standard, but playing a bunch of stats in the mid-game, then passing the turn, isn't exactly a winning game-plan in Wild . . .
I guess the main point in running both would be, if you don't draw this guy until late in the game, you need something to do in the meantime...
if it said summon he would continuusly destroy his own spawns
The Zoo is back in town. (Did it ever truly leave?)
I can already see that it took many takes to Kibler to get this whole thing right :D Give us the bloopers man!
I'm not sold on this one. Feel like a lot of games might look like the example video where you get a bunch of cool animations off and then the hunter always has another 2 damage in hand to kill you while ignoring all your cool new 4-4s.
