This thing is deceptively powerful, if it ever gets corrupted. Even uncorrupted, its a 5 mana 5/5 with divine shield, which isn't exactly small or weak. The main problem is that paladin doesn't play a lot of expensive stuff right now, with the librams being so handily cheapen. So we're looking at maybe Tirion Fordring, Hammer of the Naaru or Lady Liadrin as the trigger, and that doesn't really feel that good, does it?
If somehow midrange pally can shake off librams for a moment, then there's still a chance for this yet. It kinda competes with Fleethoof Pearltusk if we're going the yshaarj or nzoth route though. Still, not too bad a card.
The leftover mana after playing the corrupted version can be used for Animated Broomstick, which does make this card a lot more intimidating.
It's not very deceptive. It's just straight up absurdly powerful.
I only said that because it doesnt have taunt uncorrupted, so its not an automatic consideration when building paladin decks.
As you mentioned, though, Hammer of the Naaru curves right into Carousel Gryphon, leaving two more mana leftover for whatever 2-cost spell or unit you want to play at that point. Puts 14/14 stats of taunt, plus requiring a ping to get rid of the Divine Shield, and 9 weapon attack value over 3 turns. Not including whatever you do with your 2 leftover mana.
Heck, if your opponent has no taunt minions, this is nearly lethal face damage represented just by these two cards alone.
Fair point. But that's a turn 7 play over 2 turns. Obviously if your opponent can't deal with the 6/6 taunt then they wouldn't have any chance against this anyway. There's also that problem on whether you need to just play this on 5 as a 5/5 divine shield because you don't have any other plays, which wouldn't save you if you're under pressure.
But as I say, its deceptively powerful because as you rightly pointed out, curving from hammer into this is not an insignificant play.
I think this card is really good for a common rarity card.
You are so close
This really looks like N'zoth Menagerie Paladin support. We've got the Holy Elemental, now this...
This looks ok in both versions
What a waste. I have always wanted Trolden to reveal a card with some wacky highlight from the devs testing team. Or at least a regular reveal of some card relevant to his craft - something flashy or random or fun or completely unplayably dumb! And what he got was just a bog standard large minion with nothing interesting going on.
Well, it's a griffon carousel alright, but it's just not the same
Another 8/8 divine shield taunt for Pure Paladin... Just what we need :/
Poor paladin, who needs a highly discounted 8/8 divine shield with taunt
I think the OP meant design-wise, it's really not anything new or interesting for paladin.
Yeah, now the opponent needs to deal not only with 2, but 4 8/8 divine shielded taunts. They really could come up with something new..
This seems really powerful
