even the devs want some Ziliax memories. the most balanced card in all of HS
Quite strong.
Very nice. I'm also glad they didn't go with "Varian Wrynn, Jigsaw Puzzle."
This card is simply awesome. Potential triple draw + tutoring (it draws specific cards) + an upside that helps swing the board. Is this the next Lich King/Ragnaros?
Countess Ashmore and Corpsetaker have a baby.
Day 1 craft for me.
I hope it has the same theme music with Varian Wrynn.
Unity. Precision. Perfection.
He didn't need the rush section in the text. Why does everything need to be so aggressive in this game to be of any use?! Makes me sad.
Aggressive? It's an 8-Cost card!
Worth noting is that Varian, King of Stormwind will be an autoinclude in Seek Guidance Questline Priest.
Not only it fills the 8-Cost slot nicely, but in case you're behind on your Questline completion (for example still on stage 2 - Discover the Void Shard) Varian could easily tutor stuff like Taelan Fordring (5-Cost card, either Taunt or Divine Shield) Lightshower Elemental (6-Cost card, Taunt) and Blademaster Samuro (4-Cost card, Rush)/Claw Machine (6-Cost card, Rush).
I like this card its a balanced beefy legendary
Could see play in a Corrupt variant of the Priest quest deck. I don’t know what Divine Shields or Rush cards Warlock would want to run though
All mid/control decks runs at least Taelan Fordring :)
That's like Countess Ashmore (lol, remember her?), but ony steroids.
More like Countess Ashmore but playable.
Man, I am so sad about Ashmore: I was so hyped about her back in the day.
See, the thing why the Curator worked and most subsequent knockoffs (Countess Ashmore for instance) didn't is because Curator came with Taunt which made a huge difference when it comes to keeping momentum.
This is basically Curator on roids for any deck that can build around it (aka run two of each keyword in their deck). I assume that Paladin will make great use of this.
Not as strong as it might seem at first glance. Yeah, if you get all 3 effects, it's nuts, but the only Divine Shield most decks run is Taelan Fordring. If you draw him of the Taunt trigger, or have already drawn him, Varian won't get DS, which makes him a lot weaker.
It is weird that they put the rarest keyword last. Maybe that was done as a kind of nerf after he was too good in playtesting?
If it works as intended then its essentially drawing three cards while making a 7/7 divine shield, rush, taunt which is pretty insane when you think about it.
Had it simply drawn three cards it would already be decent. That it'll likely kill something while sticking as a 7/7 taunt makes it near auto-include. I mean, the only reason why you wont be playing this in your deck is because you can't fit in the rush, taunt and divine shield minions needed to make this work.
The downside is as stated, you need to actually fit in these minions in your deck and then hope not to draw them throughout the 8 turns before you play him. That's more challenging than it appears. One of the main reasons why Corpsetaker isn't really seen all that much when its in standard is precisely because it can whiff and honestly, it does that fairly often.
But is there any doubt this will see play somewhere in the next expansion? None whatsoever.
Corpsetaker saw a lot more play after Zilliax came out. It would whiff if you drew Zilliax first, but if you drew Zilliax you'd probably be in a good position already.
I think there are plenty of good rush and taunt options in Standard at the moment. For divine shield, there are Annoy-o-Tron and Stoneskin Basilisk, which don't see play right now but were good cards in their original meta; I don't know if they were power creeped out or whether people just haven't given them a go yet as returning cards are less exciting than new cards.
In any case, I think that 7/7 rush, taunt, draw 2 is still a good deal for 8 mana: getting divine shield is a bonus rather than a necessity.
