The cards that have been revealed are really all over the place. They are each interesting in their own way and they all look really solid, but they provide support for decks that don't exist yet.
This particular card has nothing to do with "support for decks that don't exist yet" though...just because it's frost doesn't mean it can't be used "normally". This is purely a control/stall card. 10 armor now, 5 armor next turn. If used on a board where you are guaranteed to take 10+ damage, you are gaining way more "effective" life than any card out there with armor gain. If used on a board where you are going to take 5 damage exactly it's a wash (and slightly weak there). If used proactively on an empty board or situation where you won't be taking ANY damage, it's 2 mana, gain 5 armor: which is exactly what you would expect from it, considering that shield black is 3 mana, gain 5 armor and draw a card.
Similar to Bring It On!. I don't think that card saw too much play, and I don't think this one will either. It will need synergy with frost spells, 2-cost spells, or dare I say Spell Warrior!... none of which exist as of this reveal.
Similar, but largely different. Bring It On! didnt see play, because you dont want to discount enemy minions lol, not because you wouldnt want the Armor.
This is definitely a cheap way to buy yourself a turn or two vs aggro, which shouldnt be underestimated. And buying yourself one more turn to get to Brawl or other stuff can be very much worth it. We will have to wait and see, how it performs.
It faces stiff competition from Heavy Plate, which though costing 1 more has the all important tradeable value, which this card unfortunately does not have. Meaning, if youre not looking at reducing at least 10 damage from your opponent the next turn you're really just paying 1 more mana for what's basically Iron Hide
But for whats it worth it does gain 10 armor for 2 mana so it'll combo well with Shield Slam, Reckless Flurry, and all those other cards that scales power with armor like Heavy Metal! or Geosculptor Yip at a fairly cheap price.
I like this design to be honest. Its stall that allows your opponent to move, but at the same time denies significant damage to face. Even if it ended up doing nothing more than gaining 5 armor, its still 5 armor which isn't the end of the world.
I think that if you only get 5 armor out of it, it's going to be very weak and end up removed from most decks. The initial 10 armor gain needs to have some consistent use (or the frost tag) for this card to be included.
Great assessment. My thoughts exactly. It's more nuanced than just simply a powercrept armor card. It reminds me of "Mountainfire Armor" in some ways.
They're serious about frost warrior huh
Well in WoW you're either a giant soda can or in a bikini so in Alterac yer gonna be cold enough to have at least like 3 frost cards.
