I think without even a totem support it is a good card. 4 mana 5/4 for an ongoing effect that makes you always have a board presence with your hero power is very promising. Even in aggro decks it is not bad at all.
Oh boy they sure know how to make legendaries exciting +2 attack.
They could have just made this an epic card 2 mana 2/2 but +1 attack instead so you would have to play 2 of them.
Idk I just wish it was more flashy. Shaman legendaries are always too simple and boring. Aside from hero cards.
I get where you're getting at. Just a simple +2 attack on a legendary does seem bland.
But once you take into account that it's in shaman, the class that has access to cards like Bolner Hammerbeak and Brilliant Macaw, it suddenly gets more interesting. If they print a good totem swarming card, it will be fun to imagine just constantly swarming the board with 8 attack totems every turn. If it was an epic +1 attack it will take much longer to get there.
Totally agree. +2 attack? Animal Companions? Summon Imps? Meh..
While the other sets all had bad legendaries, at least they had interesting, if niche, effects.
I dunno, this feels like a step down in terms of excitement.
Even if the card seems very cool, the main problem about it is that you can't create a deck that relies totally on it. If you can't cast it on turn 4 maybe in the 60+% of the matches it simply lose the most of matches. And again, what does the deck do in the meantime? The past totem shaman have been in a good spot for a brief time thanks to tools like the totemica reflection, as well as the 0cost area buffs and eyes'or. We have to see lots of other cards that could fit there, but I'm not sure that they would be enough to make the deck viable: even the anchored totem is useless in this deck.
Agreed. Either you need a) far more Totem synergies that will come up reliably such that you don't care if this is the last card in the deck, b) this card needs to have other powers and synergies unrelated to Totems that makes it a strong play when you're not making Totems, or c) preferrably both.
Note that Team 5 seems to hate (c). They are making pre-packaged decks where 25 to 28 of your cards are all of one tribe pre-made by the design team, as if we didn't have enough of their in-house design with Quests. Cards that bridge the gap between tribes are not only rare, they're usually deliberately terrible. It's the exact opposite of what we could use, but it likely makes things easier on their end.
Well without any other support this changes your Hero Power so you would summon 2/2 (or sometimes 3/1). If somehow you decide not to use Brukan this actually could be used even alone.
But I hope we see more totem support.
How considerate of them to make this card even-costed.
That's completely unexpected.
But is the card good enough as it is right now, with the totems that we currently have? Probably not. Of all the classes, shaman tends to do better than click hp every turn, and brukan is in every deck anyway, so at some point this card is not just a poor topdeck its also gets redundant as the game drags on.
Perhaps this signals that there would be at least one additional totem unrevealed, or something that can put more than one totem out at a time, because that's the only reason why'd you be playing this card at all. At the moment, its just strong stuff without a home to me.
I hope this goes better than Ey'sor...
Ey'sor is pretty damn busted. It just so happens to be by far the best card in a deck that is currently pretty much unplayable. I've won more games with Totem Shaman off of the back of Ey'sor than any other card. If it sticks one turn it's devastating, if you hold it back a bit, drop it, Lightning Bloom, then copy it with Totemic Reflection/Splitting Axe, it takes over the game on its own.
Ey'Sor was good. The complete absence of totems after Darkmoon Faire was not. That's what I'm referring to.
Yeah, I loved Ey’sor decks. You just had to have good mulligan and early draws to get rolling. The nerf to Bloom actually makes this a lot harder to get double Ey’sor early. But that occasional turn 2 double Bloom into Ey’sor and Totemic Reflections was a hell of a turn! If even one survives until turn four the Splitting Axe got you going again!
Remember when Thunder Bluff Valiant was a good card? Oh, how much the game has changed.
Were we so innocent back then?
Finanly some more totem support !
Just hope doesnt end up another ey'sor (no totems/totem support until after it rotated).
i want more totems, less evolve stuff for shaman
