We've got a Legendary card reveal from LoveStorm - Kael'thas Sinstrider! Looks like his latest nerf was merely a setback. Name is now correct, we previously named this card Fluffy Kael'thas.

people who suck at combo decks: overpowered, cant wait for this to be 1600 free dust!
me, whos going to hit legend with it first:
The difference between old Kael and new Kael is that spells exist that costed zero (to discount bigger spells), drew and dealt damage at the same time. There is nothing like that minion wise so the most this is ever going to do is cheat out a big guy. If you saw this and thought wild is going to burn I think you are mistaken.
I completely agree -- restricting this to minions is a huge limitation, because they are inherently less powerful than spells simply due to the fact that they can be used over multiple rounds.
The most obvious class for new Kael'thas is rogue because of Shadowstep. However, I can't think of an expensive and impactful minion they would want to cheat out with this effect.
Sure. No way this will end up as the cornerstone of some game-breaking combo and will need a nerf so fast space-time around the card will warp. Yup.
And here i was thinking that the game's direction is gonna change towards something slow(er) and with no mana cheating nor other similar stuff. Was even planning to come back to the game.
Guess I was wrong and i'm glad i didn't. Doing everything you can to design cards that end the game when they come down (and probably the draw randomness being skewed towards drawing these cards after certain points too) is not the kind of game i enjoy nor think is a design good enough for a team with years of experience...
Sorry blizzard, but with cards like these... you're not worth my time nor money.
Already thinking how I can use this in a Ping Mage list! Imagining a Wild list where Mordresh does 40 damage in one turn!
Does Fluffy Kael'thas count itself as the first minion? If so, then for 9-mana you can play Fluffy Kael'thas, Brann Bronzebeard, and any minion for nothing, which opens up all 8+ cost minions to abuse with Brann. Who wants double Jace Darkweaver? Or Kel'Thuzad, the Inevitable?
I don't think this will be good outside of Druid.
If you can't activate the effect before turn 9 what's the point?
Hope I open a golden this so I can dust it once it gets nerfed
This seems appropriate
I heard some people say that the effect translates to "The third minion you play each turn costs 0". This would mean that the effect can only trigger once each turn and that he counts himself.
Google Lens translates it as "In each turn, for every three minions you play, the third minion costs (0) mana.", which is a roundabout way of saying the effect we wrote on the card. We'll just have to wait and see.
Its probably more cancerous in wild than it would be in standard, because there really isn't alot of minion win cons that would be worth it and far as I know there's no easy way to discount this card neither.
But as usual, mana cheats of this proportion will at some point see play, perhaps even tier 1. And then as usual it would just get nerfed to the ground.
On the one hand, the board space is gonna be an issue. On the other, minions tend to be more high-impact than spells, especially legendary ones.
Time and time again we've seen that reducing the cost of something to (0) breaks stuff or creates very uninteractive play patterns, yet they keep making cards like this. I'm not sure what's the logic behind that.
because those uninteractive play patterns can require a level of skill to perform that justifies the slight frustration that can come from it. if its overpowered they can nerf it, its not the end of the world and they shouldnt completely limit themselves from the number zero just because it makes all the people that dont understand high skill cap uninteractive decks complain about it.
My head was blasted with PTSD. Minions are trickier though but eventually there will be a way to abuse this.
I can picture a Druid playing both Kaels, Anacondra and letting the hell loose.
I can bet eventually having the same nerf og Kael had. Taking cards down to 0 tends to be op (and making people angry), but they still print them.
Great mana cheat for minions. We have so many powerful 10 mana minions. Now everyone can play them at turn 6-7 alongside with Kael and a cheap/ discounted minion.
oh no
