The card seems fun but note you do need to give up a card, so you may want to hold it a bit so you give a not so great card to opponet.
Our deck is looking good today.
there can be interesting applications ...
In wild little bit broken, but nice card
Frankly if something punishes combo decks in wild I consider that a win. I don't expect this to make a big enough impact in wild for that to matter though.
Pretty interesting card, but i don't think it will just replace mutanus overnight like others think, because of one major thing. mutanus was free. And it gave you a nice big minion most of the time.
It also comes a few turns faster which is great and I'll have a chance to aim for something then hoping to god it hits what i want it to.
So essentially "Trade Offer" the card?
After much more thought, it's actually quite a decent disruption to have. Somewhat better than Mutanus the Devourer I'd say if you play it purely for the disruption simply because it's 3 mana cheaper but it does provide waaay less tempo but that's not the main use of the card anyways.
Its hard to evaluate this one, because the stats suck, and the effect may well end up doing nothing. In effect this card is basically like mutanus, except with a chance of backfiring.
But to me this is one legendary that might be mandatory to have because it offers a chance to nullify your opponent's theotar, or a chance to even the odds in case you lose something really key. Imagine losing your hero card to this; the only possible chance of winning at this point might well be to steal it back or to steal something equally important.
I personally like this card because it practically counters druids, particularly the Celestial Alignment kind. Hmmm...now that I think about it, this might actually replace mutanus from now onwards, because of its lower cost. I think I know what shaman deck I'll be playing on day 1.
This could really muck up quests, especially for Pirate Warriors holding Cap'n Rokara in their hand.
Most quest decks can complete and play their reward in the same turn, the exception being priest. This card would really screw a quest priest deck.
Cards like this are hilarious, really. Of course we're all going to hate having our stuff stolen, but I guess we'll be stealing their stuff too with our own Theotar, so who knows? Maybe this is the type of cards to kill off those crazy decks that beat you with a single card, and force people to build decks with alternate win conditions, or good board play? I don't know, it's a dream anyway :)
Edit : Imagine stealing your opponent's Theotar, lol. Lord, this game sometimes. . .
I know. The strongest decks will be the least affected, while the weakest ones will be worst affected, aggravating pre-existing balance problems and creating even less deck diversity because a) concepts vulnerable to Theotar, the Mad Duke will be disfavored, narrowing the field, and b) Theotar, the Mad Duke will itself become a commonplace. This also has a synergetic effect with Blademaster Okani as both of them are ultra-strong denial effects fueled by Brann Bronzebeard, making the entire trio more common.
No-counterplay hard counters have never been good for any game; they're simply, at best, less bad than the worst parts of the game, much like amputating a limb to stop gangrene. I've played games where my denial effects stole my opponent's denial effects: I get a dull chuckle, my opponent doesn't get to play at all, and it stops being funny in the slightest within a minute.
So, not a fan.
Great RAGE! generation engine.
Blizzard is really coming down on "one trick pony" deck with these two past extension.
RANT TIME!
HUGE display of unprofessionalism from Thijs over here. Making people wait an hour and 40 minutes for the card just so that they'd watch his e-sports event. And it's not like there was no better spot to put this in, there was a 30 minute gap before when the card was supposed to be revealed and when the first game started. I sincerely hope Blizzard won't give him another card to reveal after that stunt, but I'm not holding my breath.
That said, the card is pretty neat, but it's gonna be a real annoyance to play against.
Thijs does quite a lot of the HS community including arranging tournaments nowadays and you have the absolutely shameless cheek of moaning that he used a card reveal to promote his platform? A card that really doesn't matter when you saw it even if it was the day before the launch?
You need to have a strong word with yourself. You are all sorts of wrong with this take as well as the 21 numpties that upvoted your drivel.
This is a very strong disruptive effect, stealing that single win condition some decks usually have will have massive consequences. A lot of people seem to be downplaying the effect, you're not playing this for tempo or stats on the board, you're playing it purely to disrupt your opponent's game plan and man, will it make some people close the client early!
As a sidenote:
Completely agree. Been a fan of Thijs for what feels like forever now, but that wasn't it chief. He really did a number on this one :(
What happened? What did Thijs do?
Thijs' reveal was supposed to be about an hour and 45 minutes before this article went up. However, instead of revealing it, he said something along the lines of "we'll show this card after the first round of the tournament" (this all happened on his Twitch rivals stream) and just didn't show the card at all. He even teased us with the envelope containing the card. And like I said in the comment, there was a 30 minute gap where the card could've easily been revealed.
I understand that it's frustrating for the folks who have to sit around and upload the reveal content, but is it so bad for the average viewer? I don't begrudge the fella an opportunity to use a Hearthstone reveal to plug Hearthstone content, given how rare Hearthstone tournament viewership can be. Thijs gets a plus and for the 95% of people that check the news site for new cards at day-end or day-beginning, nothing changes.
