Update: Reveals are over for today. All the new cards can be found below.
After a quiet Sunday, we're back into card reveal territory for Hearthstone's Festival of Legends expansion. We've still got 10 days to go until the whole set is revealed, so let's see some more cards!
Today you can expect to see Shaman, Rogue, and Warlock cards. Missed previous cards? Check out our expansion guide!
Don't forget to talk about the new cards in the comments and if you want to talk about them individually, we've got threads in our Card Discussion forum for every one. March 20 Festival of Legends Card Reveals
Here are all the cards that Blizzard have revealed today, March 20, 2023, for Festival of Legends.
Comments
They gave shaman a quest-line that requires Overload cards, then last year's expansions included 3 cards with Overload (and no other Overload synergy). Now the quest-line will leave standard, as well as the synergy cards from that year - Charged Call, Investment Opportunity, Overdraft - and they make Overload the theme for the next expansion. Were they worried an Overload deck would be too strong?
They see me bouncin' they hatin'
When I saw Freebird I knew they will print some new bouncing cards. But who cares about Freebird when you have Astalor, the Flamebringer?
For the most part Warlock’s Imp package and deathrattle package are still almost wholly intact, so it makes sense that they don’t want to give them cards that are too strong. But wow, I expected Rin to retain some of her old design, like adding a symphony to your hand that upgraded as you play it (ala the Seals) for a massive pay off. But uh, I guess a random mish-mash of effects works too I guess.
Rogue got cool cards at least! Maybe Whirlkick Master returns or more cost reduction to make it viable.
Shaman is a class that exists. And unironically From de Other Side might be it’s most viable deck if more cards that help it don’t get revealed. Like more Elemental/Murloc stuff
So rogue is going full on APM this time, which means its just basically bridging yet more Sinstone Graveyards and drakas. At least I can see that team5 is making it as difficult as possible (as though as it ever stopped pros from figuring it out) and thus far there's no draw engine (yet).
Warlock's identity this expansion is not made clear as yet. Rin, Orchestrator of Doom looks like a decent card, but its obvious discolock support because outside of a discard deck this card is just plain too inconsistent. What's it supposed to accomplish if not as a combo card of sorts? Destroy your opponent's hand, deck whilst making up a giant, uncounterable board, seems like the play here.
As for shaman, I would be shocked if Lava Shock or Overdraft isn't returned to core, because if it isn't then all the overload cards are basically a waste of time. Seems like the real winner here is Jazz Bass because what it does is essentially allows you to play a spell for free.
A bit meh for Inzah. You'd think a card like this should at least be cheap but coming out at turn 5 what exactly is shaman planning? Ducking all those overload cards is bad enough and now its bridge is literally 5 mana with no guarantees of playing it on turn 5 because youre overloaded again. At very least this does make your lightning bolt cost 0 mana and that has to be scary for an OTK somehow. Cast Criminal Lineup on the cheap on some spell damage minion and double Lightning Bolt for the win.
Rin, Orchestrator of Doom is a very disruptive card for both players usually. Ideally you play this in a deck that either doesn’t care about havingspecific cards or in a deck that already wants to do what she does (self mill or discard).
You know, at some point the whole "Warlock is a class that griefs you" becomes a bit stale. They have done so many of these and with each iteration they become more and more awkward to play.
Like, remember the original [Hearthstone Card (Rin the First Disciple) Not Found] and Gnomeferatu? They were simple, to the point, and they worked. Now you have to jump through seven loops just to get an effect that barely even puts you at an advantage.
That's it for reveals today. 10 new cards in total.
Bounce Around (ft. Garona) - Neat bounce effect. I think it’ll rely on Preparation to be played considering how Tenwu of the Red Smoke did during its time in standard.
Disc Jockey Is a neat combo card. If combo rogue is good in standard this is played in it.
Breakdance seems nice. It’s a Seance that gives rush usually. Really solid bounce card. Has some Devouring Swarmesque utility.
Rhyme Spinner Is a strong payoff for combo rogue.
Tenwu bounced one minion and made it cost 1. This bounces everything, making it cost 1. Along with the weapon that can refresh a bunch of mana if buffed up you could potentially do some crazy battlecry/combo effects multiple times. And with the other Rogue legendary spell we got recently, you could effectively bounce things twice!
Play Alex, break weapon for a bunch of mana, prep, bounce, alex again, shadow of demise, alex again. A potential 24 burst damage turn late. In Wild with other cost reduction tools, Brann/Shark, this could get nutty
Still only bouncing one thing in your example, but yes I do agree it does have the potential to enable some nutty combos. Though even in stuff like the scenario you described it does have a tendency to need other cards for such shenanigans (Preparation, Record Scratcher, and Shadow of Demise in your example). Also I think rogue already did a similar combo during barrens meta with Tenwu of the Red Smoke + Shadowstep. Honestly that combo was probably much easier than most things with Bounce Around (ft. Garona) will be.
If this somehow becomes meta it will just get hardcountered by weapon removal.
Also you need to ahve stuff on the board to bounce it in the first place
I’m not saying it’ll be meta, or even good. But theoretically it’s possible! And possible is all some players need to make it happen (or die 600 times trying at least)!
Wow, Bounce Around (ft. Garona) dunks so hard on Vanish it ain't even funny. Sure, Vanish was also useful in resetting your opponent's board, but this new card is way more powerful with its low cost and cost reductions.
Vanish was powerful exactly because it bounced your opponent's stuff, you're comparing apples to oranges here.
You can say it dunks on the 1-mana spell from Rise of Shadows, but that one saw basically no play.
Hmmm, wondering if Wronchi's video is a Standard or Wild duel. If it is Standard, he may have also announced that Enviscerate is coming to the new Core set.
well for what it worth, watermarks are from legacy set not core
I actually really like the idea of Combo being used to represent "flow" in a hip hop song.
That being said, I pray that this means Shadowstep is finally gone, because otherwise we're getting Roguestone for the third time in a row.
with this two "return to you hand" cards, seems that shadowstep will not be in core set
I would be stunned not to see Shadowstep in core. Its so much part of rogue's identity like how ramp is to druid. All these bouncers are nice, but nowhere near as good as shadowstep.
Except, this one are arguably even better...
