Welcome to a brand new (hopefully weekly) article, Card Design Conversation with me, Shadows!
This is my spot to extol the virtues of the WCDC, maybe highlight some cool ideas from the latest competition or the Fan Creations forums in general, and bring you up-to-date with any news we have.
Sneaking To The Top
Our first order of business; congratulations to Shivershine, our very first WCDC winner, and their wonderful Cavern Explorer!
We'll be carrying over our tradition of allowing the winner of each WCDC to pick a theme for a week, so look forward to what they come up with for week 1.03.
Reporting For Duty
This next section would normally be where I'd show off some designs I particularly liked from the WCDC, or from the Fan Creations forums in general. This first week though, I'd like to direct your attention to some of the new things that have appeared now that our first competition is over.
First we have the Winners Gallery!
Here you'll find all previous winners, along with their Initial Voting score and the score they received in the Finalist Voting. I believe the star rating will show what you voted for them in the Initial Voting (assuming you did)? Not sure that's intended to be there, but as we know, this is all a work in progress right now.
The next big thing is the Transparency Report!
This can be accessed from a competition's main page after the competition ends.
You'll be able to see, from left to right:
- Each person who entered the competition (ordered by position in the Finals, and then position in Initial Voting), along with what number their entry was
- The number of views their submission received in the Initial Voting
- The number of votes of each Star they received in the Initial Voting, along with the total number of stars and their subsequent score
- The number of votes of each Star they received in the Finalist Voting, along with the total number of stars and their subsequent score
We're super happy to be able to be so transparent with you about the competition process. This page will also show which entries were disqualified, along with a reason for their disqualification.
Onwards and Upwards
I'll leave you with the note that our next competition is now underway! We're looking for some fantastical treasures for the rogue-like modes of the game this week - check out the full rules below.

I loved how well this WCDC system works. Congrats to all the Fan Creation team members and superb work.
Thank you for all voting for me! The border looks great.
Congratulations to Shivershine, our first WCDC winner!
Simple and elegant design, it seems ppl can appretiate that 😉
Thanks!
Really cool stuff, thank you! If I may make a suggestion though: Reading the Transparency Report, I wanted to look up the entries since I can't remember who submitted which card. Sadly I wasn't able to find them anymore. Could you add a link to the galery with the entries (possibly in the order of the final result) to the transparacy report site? Are they even saved?
This is an awesome idea for a series. I look forward to more.
I was gonna ask ''But how can we know how our creation fared at the voting booth?'' but then noticed the transparency report.
That's a great touch !
