Defenders of Dalaran - Control Mage Deck

Hello, my name is DreadKill and this is my theorycraft Control Mage Deck. Upon further testing it has proven good in Ranked, especially because it wrecks bomb Warrior. I have been playing Hearthstone since Beta and I like to create fun theorycraft decks, whenever a new expansion is on the horizon.

About the deck - a short funny description

You think Mage is annoying because it has a ton of removal? Then it means you haven't played this deck yet. Imagine facing a mage that has 4-5 Flamestrikes or Blizzards and not in Arena. If that is not enough add another copy of Kalecgos or Hex Lord Malacrass to the ones already in the deck.

Also imagine you are making a Rogue conceed after freezing their 16/16 Edwin VanCleef for 5 (five) consecutive turns. Feelsgoodman.

The deck

1. Deck base

While all three cards have different effects, all are oriented for the late-game. Kalecgos is the master of value and is usually quite hard to be removed in one turn. Archmage Antonidas remains an old classic, generating at least 1-2 additional Fireballs per game. Last, but not least, Hex Lord Malacrass provides a good hand refill, especially if it lands on your removal spells or strong minions like Kalecgos.

2. Removal

The good old trio, they will be your best friends in most of the match-ups. Also included in the deck is Blizzard, good for clearing low health minions and delaying beefier targets.

3. Spammable removal

With the addition of Magic Dart Frog and together with Sorcerer's Apprentice you are able to remove enemy minions in a cheap and effective way.

4. Card draw

While the first two will be your usual card draw, Arcane Dynamo is oriented towards mid to late-game spell generation, working wonderful with Kalecgos.

5. Tech cards

On the more niche-side, these cards can prove quite useful in many situations. Spellzerker works like a charm with the spells in the deck, especially with the Spammable removal combo. Messenger Raven is good as a card generator and it can discover key minions like the three of the Deck base. With the rotation of most of the elemental Mage cards to wild, Water Elemental remains your basic companion, being a good minion or hero (against Hunter, Rogue, Paladin and Warrior especially) disruptor.

Mulligan

Example of a good starting hand

For mulligan you will want to keep cheap cards, especially ones like the Spammable removal. This type of hand will be particularly effective versus aggro decks.

Example of a more control-ish / late-game oriented starting hand

This type of starting hand will usually come in handy in the late-game, given you have Hex Lord Malacrass included in the deck. Minions that work really well in this type of starting hand are Messenger Raven, Arcane Dynamo and Kalecgos.

Play style

Mostly like an usual Control Mage deck, you will have to maintain control of the board, focusing on clearing the enemy minions and disrupting enemy combos. In the late-game, cards like Archmage Antonidas, Hex Lord Malacrass and Kalecgos give you the upper hand.

Thank you!

If you read it all the way until here then really thank you a lot! I appreciate that (may or may not be a Medivh inside joke) and I am waiting for your comments and opinions.

I think to survive all the aggro decks currently swarming the meta you also need some healing.

Well you need to wait for a meta that doesn't just kill you by placing bombs in your deck or hitting you in the face with weapons/chargers/lackeys/spells. Then you're good to go :)!
