Year of the Dragon
This new Standard year took with it three sets to the Wild format as well as several cards to the Hall of Fame; as is tradition. This Standard year began in April 9th 2019 and was announced February 28th 2019.
Sets that left Standard format:
This year, nine cards in total became part of the Hall of Fame:
Developer's Notes: Over the past several years, we’ve seen a number of strong, aggressive Paladin decks. While we like Paladin’s identity as a minion-summoning and minion-buffing class with a fair amount of resource generation, card draw doesn’t also need to be one of the Paladin’s strengths. Divine Favor is one of the most cost-effective draw spells in the game, so to better emphasize other classes’ strengths and to provide better control over the power level of future aggressive Paladin decks, we are moving Divine Favor to the Hall of Fame. |
Developer's Notes: As masters of Demons, Warlocks have long been a powerful board-control class. While we like that minion combat is as much a part of the Warlock’s identity as destructive magic, we want to acknowledge and embrace the class’s weaknesses when they lose control of the board. To that end, we want to limit the amount of damage a Warlock can deal from their hand. As a powerful Charge minion, Doomguard pushes against the Warlock class identity, so we are moving it into the Hall of Fame. |
Developer's Notes: Druids have always had excellent flexibility and a number of different tools when it comes to generating mana, cards, and minions, but have long struggled to remove their opponent’s large minions. Naturalize effectively nullifies that weakness, giving Druids a powerful option in matchups where card advantage doesn’t matter. Moving it into the Hall of Fame enforces the Druid’s weakness in removing large minions, maintaining its class identity. |

Looking promising
Can't wait to play Underbelly Fence. Legit my favorite card so far <3<3
Such a nice and useful layout. Thanks!
A lot of the cards have great potential and I can already see some that would prove great and problematic. Excited for this expansion :)
This expansion have some good cards
Thanks for the quick updates! Wonder when we'll receive info on Zayle?
Wow you organized it better here than on hearthpwn.
I'm still sad that there will be no new hero card.
Having few limitations is a wonderful thing!
No free class legendary this time?
Which card are you guys the most excited for?
I have to say, this video is the best one they have ever done since Brode left.
Not sure what kind of archetype heal druid is going to be, but certainly looks interesting.
Great guide. Very excited!
Very nice and compact guide. First time here, but definitely staying! Keep up with the good work!

Nice guide.
One thing, which makes me kinda mad regarding the RoS set is the power creep. I know, I know - I was tired of the low power-level of the Year of the Raven expansions and I also appealed for a change, but the new one stands in contrast with them. And I'm really confused - I thought the purpose of the Raven year was to make a fresh new start. And now the devs are making the same mistake again.
I personally think that the power level is just fine! nothing here seems super OP and busted.
when kobolds and catacombs was in the reveal season, I would look at a card and go, "Oh my gosh! thats super OP!" but nothing in this set makes me feel the same way.
Can't wait to get my hands on the new legendary mage cards, though Khadgar could have been made a bit stronger (stats-wise and of course with a fitting mana cost and effect) regarding his power level in the lore.
nice guide
Shaping up to be an interesting expansion, I'm curious as to how the meta will turn out with all the changes coming with the year of the dragon.
