I cannot be held responsible for any catastrophic failures that might ensue.

I played Pirate Warrior about a week ago in Wild and it worked pretty fine. So my first thought was "Oh well, this changes make PW in Wild very, very strong!".

But yesterday I played PW in Wild again and it felt very "meh". It was an auto loose against Quest Hunter. Quest Warlock felt like an impossible enemy too. And there were other decks too, which felt "very good" against PW.

So how good will be PW without Demon Seed? Very good, I think - but it will not be the new "S-Tier deck" which totally defines the meta, because there will be decks, which are strong against it (even without tech against pirates).

I am only a little bit afraid the new meta will look like this:

    1. Quest Hunter > Aggro Decks

    2. decks which are stacking armor > Quest Hunter

    3. Aggro Decks > decks which are stacking armor (?)

There's a chance that Reno decks will make a comeback.

What if... The Demon Seed, instead of having you take X amount of self-damage to progress, would instead track turns in which you dealt damage to yourself? This would affect Wild the most, since the critical mass of self-damage cards is there, and the change would slow it down massively while making it somewhat still solid in Standard - maybe stronger in Standard than in Wild, but it would balance out both worlds without implementing the ban to the Quest in Wild.

The change to Illucia was necessary but the card is just plain bad now. An increase in stats or reduction in cost would have been fine imo. The value she provides is too inconsistent and unreliable. It is totally dependent on what the opponent has and there are still scenarios where she isn't playable at all (against aggro decks or if the opponent is simply out of cards). If i want a late game value engine for my deck, i'd rather play Ysera the Dreamer. It costs three times more but comes with a sizable body and the value provided is consistent. I'll always know what i'm getting. So, Illucia simply isn't worth a deck slot anymore. She lost her role as combo disruptor and it is completely outclassed as a value generator. I won't miss the opportunity of getting 1600 dust this time.

Yeah it's a pity, just yesterday I tried Quest Priest, and although I would have probably won anyway, Illucia sealed the win right away. I wonder how poor Quest Priest will turn out with this nerfed, because nothing seems to be buffed.

Ofcourse this had to happen, mostly because of Shadow Priest.

Wildfire to 1 = low key buff to Wandmaker in HP Mage!

I don't think Wandmaker can give you the questline, so Wildfire will now be 1/8 chance to generate from Wandmaker

Other options are Brain Freeze, Devolving Missiles, First Flame, Font of Power, Primordial Studies, Shooting Star, and Snap Freeze.

Questline can't be Discovered or generated in any way, so your guess is good!

      Wandmaker OP OP.

Im worried that by hitting the other quests, it inadvertently buffed quest mage, which is stil seeing lots of play despite its win rate. Buff up that win rate and we'll be back to week one of stormwind where every 2 of 3 games are against mage and it aint hp mage.

Of course, if quest mage is tier 1 be prepared for what is now termed as 'solitaire' meta once again.

The change to Mindrender Illucia does not appear to include a copy of the opponent's deck as is written in this article. Only their hand.

    Mindrender Illucia

    • Old: Battlecry: Swap hands and decks with your opponent until your next turn.  New: Battlecry: Replace your hand with a copy of your opponent’s until end of turn.

so... ilucia gives you a copy of your opponent's hand, but do you still have your deck? so if you use your opponent's draw cards, do you draw cards from your deck? and do these cards remain in your hand when the effect of ilucia ends?

Well, I am basically a frog, so reading is extremely hard for me. Most of the times, I go by guesses and just look at the pictures, hoping that no one will notice.

Jokes aside, my bad: I was so confident about Illucia's rework that when I read the word 'copy' I though "heh, nailed it" and didn't bother to double check. Thanks for pointing it out: it has now been fixed!

Mage buffs are for Hero Power Mage. A more-or-less unplayed archetype. It might just cause Mage players to play a different archetype than the one you don't like.

        Random story time:

I always enjoyed Odd Mage, continued playing it in Wild after the early Genn/Baku rotation.  After Barrens I was playing a “Fire Mage” deck based around HP shenanigans that included Mordresh and Jan’alai.  Something about the fantasy of being a mage with a strong hero power was fun to me.

It was never super strong in Wild in either form, but with Wildfire at 1 it intrigues me enough to at least try Odd Mage again.  If only Mordresh was changed to 9 mana 9/9, and Reckless Apprentice changed to a 3 mana 3/4…

Could run Frost Lich and just save the Wildfires until after playing her too. That is, if Wild slows down enough for an Odd Elemental Mage to be viable. (Fun Fact: When Barrens released, Wildfire’s effect used to carryover to the DK hp, but at some point they patches it so it wouldn’t.)
