Card reveals for March of the Lich King start today and we've got new Death Knight cards directly from IGN.
IGN originally debuted Frostmourne incorrectly as a 5/5. Celestalon confirmed on Twitter it is a 5/3 and confirmed its a Path of Arthas card. Anti-Magic Shell seen below is a new Core set card for Death Knights.

I really don’t see frostmourne making it, a 7 mana for a 5/3 weapon just isn’t really worth it, paladin had libram of judgement a card that is incredibly easy to discount to 4-5 mana and had what in my opinion is a more practical upside and never really made the cut from what I recall.
Maybe it makes it in triple blood if it gets enough healing to facilitate it, it probably would be like if gorehowl vometed a board when you were done with it, but I don’t know when the last time that thing saw play was and I don’t think an upside in 3 turns is what it needed, But maybe it’s possible this makes it for an expansion maybe post rotation
Also as for anti magic shell, I think it’s comparable to the robes from scholomance this is permanent and doesn’t rely on your opponent not having 4 damage worth of minions, but this probably feels worse to tempo and right now I’m not actually sold on unholy blood’s ability to generate corpses yet.
Although time has passed, I still remember Anti-Magic Shell for being an incredibly obnoxious AoE buff. I personally think that the single Unholy Rune isn't that big of a deckbuilding limitation and that the 1 mana buff is going to be more than relevant: Unholy DK (the Rune I was the least hyped about) received a very very good tool.
The OG Anti-Magic Shell is +2/+2. This is considerably less good.
"Considerably" is doing a lot of work there. This costs one less mana.
Funny thing is that Frostmourne used to be the worst DK card you can get off lich king, and right now it's here again completely unaltered. I dont rate its chances to be honest. 15 damage to the face is nice and all but in 2022 ignoring board on turn 6-7 tends to equal to death.
Anti-Magic Shell is too slow and weak, but in unholy decks it could work because you're likely to be flooding board, and with so many reborn minions it might be impossible to keep DK's board empty unlike paladin.
Frostmourne should be 6 mana.
I think there's a major difference between then and now. Back in the day, you received Frostmourne; right now, the weapon is collectible, meaning that you can build around it and make it better than it used to be.
An example? Runeforging! Imagine Frostmourne always costing 6 and being able to tutor it. Deckbuilding makes cards much better.
Still pretty expensive at 6 mana.
I wonder if Frostmourne could actually be really good in Blood DK. You're an uber-control deck with massive survivability and you can turn your opponents threats against them.
Then again, it does play right into Insatiable Devourer....
I can't believe they actually turned a token into a card lol, TBF it is a good token to be given the privilege. Kind of weak in faster meta, but insane value in slow games. I am still jumping into standard mode so I am not sure what big value minions are there, but imagine stealing your opponents Lich King??? This is like three mindcontrols in one card.
Just from the top of my head, imagine stealing a Colossal: not only you'd resummon the main body, but all its appendages too!
nice sword :))))
Underwhelming but then not all DK cards can be bonkers.
Question: Is Frost Mourne sentient? Does the weapon know itself? Meaning, if I equip it, kill three minions, then reequip it with Hoard Pillager and kill another three, will the second one summon six?
No. Resummoned weapons and cards do not keep their enchantments.
Thanks!
Man, I'd be annoyed if I cracked Frostmourne in a card pack. Super late game (unless DK has some strong weapons cheating that we haven't seen) - you're likely to only get the full value (3 cards with middling attack and health) on around turn 9. Doesn't seem worth it to me unless somehow the game slows wayyyyy down.
is the runeforging that reduces it by 1, so its turn 7 possibly with coin to break it at all.
Outside the value of the Deathrattle, it does represend up to 15 face damage and runeforging does allow it to get out a bit faster, so could see the deathrattle as kind of bonus instead
That's not the correct version of Frostmourne.
