Polygon has leaked the new expansion! Wow, what idiots!! The article that was leaked has since been removed.
Here is everything we know so far about Ashes of Outland. (Polygon referred to the expansion as Ashes of Outlands which makes no sense since its Outland and not Outlands)
- The expansion launches April 7.
- Demon Hunter is a new class and we've got 20 cards to showcase.
- Priests are getting an overhaul.
- Outcast, the new Demon Hunter Keyword gives the card a bonus if it is cast while being the right-most or left-most card in your hand.
New Legendary Card - Kael'thas Sunstrider
Quote From Polygon The first piece of Ashes of Outlands will drop on Tuesday, March 17. Players can log in and receive the Legendary card Kael’thas Sunstrider. When Kael’thas is on the board, the third spell cast every turn is free.
New Class: Demon Hunter
Hearthstone is getting a new class - The Demon Hunter! Illidan Stormrage is finally getting his time in the spotlight.
- Hero Power: Demon Claws, a 1-Mana ability that grants 1 Attack
Quote From Chadd Nervig [Demon Hunters] don’t have much in the way of card generation, but you can run them out of resources,” says Chadd Nervig, game designer on Hearthstone. “They have card draw, but not generation, so you can fatigue them. They’re susceptible to hard removal. They also just don’t have much in the way of hard removal themselves; if they want to clear a big minion of yours, they have to use their face to do it. They don’t have any assassinate or polymorph cards.
Demon Hunter Cards
These are all the cards revealed so far for the Demon Hunter class.
Basic Demon Hunter Cards
Ashes of Outland Demon Hunter Cards
Demon Hunter Tokens
Priest Overhaul
Priests are getting an overhaul!
Quote From Chadd Nervig There were aspects of their basic and classic sets that we weren’t planning to support, so they were sort of misleading Priests and taking up space, Things like Prophet Velen, which is an iconic Legendary for Priests, sounded really cool … but really was only used for [one-turn kill strategies], which we weren’t planning to support. These cards are now in the Hall of Fame, and can be used in the game’s Wild mode.

I really hope this new class comes with better economy.. I mean adding a new class(2 if you count priest lol) is AWESOME and all BUT it means the price of the game increases significally, specially if every expansion now has 10 more cards (and 18 new collectible cards(2 legendaries and 16 none legendaries) as well as bigger odds for the classic set to not give you what you want..
good thing I started hoarding classic packs (too late though.. have just 2) cause it seems there are at least 30 new cards to collect there..
Well gonna need to see what blizzard does on that regard.. they will have to add total new UI and probably redesign the level system so MAYBE they will finally make the game playable for none whales..
Really like the changes but as long as no F2P support comes around I think I will stick with LoR
If I was Blizzard (AND I'M NOT) I'd plan out this class to have the least impact on economy as possible.
So right now every class has 2 legendaries, 2 Epics, 3 Rares and 3 commons.
You can easily allocate those resources from the Neutral pool going forward, so that there's 3 neutral legendaries, 7 Epics, 7 rares and 2 fewer commons.
BUT Blizzard will probably just add 2 extra legendaries, epics, and 3 extra rares and commons going forward so that players have to buy MORE CARDS AND PACKS
streamers already confirmed that there will be a big f2p improved, we just have to wait for the official announcement.
bruhhhhhhh
The Priest community demands update and or article on what is being removed and buffs/nerfs, as well as input from actual experienced priest players.
On the surface:
Shadow Word: Ruin addresses that need for BIG mass removal Priest needs every expansion (although with power level and the sheer number of ridiculousness in late-game Hearthstone these days, needing four or more cards doing that is required).
Shadow Madness getting a buff is something I likey. Very underrated card and always useful when deathrattles are in vogue.
The new legendary is very utility and can kill untargetable minions, but quite hefty on mana. But can be comboed with Seance in wild -- bad timing for Standard as that card is from Rastakhan's Rumble.
IMO Holy Nova needs to do 3 damage; a majority of aggro is 3 health these days. Dropping mana down a point isn't enough.
Making Thief Priest cards dirt cheap might help that fun style; however, it needs more minions that provide stolen stuff as well or spells that steal the on-board minions. One weakness is stealing stuff from your opponent's deck rather than random anything of class like rogue is getting too many synergy cards that don't mesh with your stuff (totem buffs, silver hand recruit stuff, murlocs, weapons, etc.)
The (possible?) removal of Northshire Clericmeans Priest loses OTK ground. Dubious if the new cards fill the early game void of Priest, which has been its weakness.
I also noticed no Inner Fire and Divine Spirit (which I found to be newbish and the canary in the coal mine if that was the only win condition for the class). But with all the minion buffs, that might be a good thing for Standard. Wild? Eeek.
Did the class also lose Mass Dispel and Silence? That can be a big hit for control. Mass Dispel has finally gotten its time in mainstream priest decks too. I could live with Mass Dispel losing card draw. Another underrated card that has won games for me.
/1300+ wins with Anduin; Priest main through thick and very farking thin times
Holy Nova is completely fine at 4-mana. It's literally a consecration that also helps keeping your minions alive....and Consecration is ran in almost any Paladin deck that isn't built on a single gimmick. Spell damage is also a thing.
Your point on Thief priest makes no sense. With enough thief cards you are more likely to get better stuff since what is in your opponent's deck will usually synergize with itself, whereas Rogue burglary can give you completely useless cards and no way to ever play them. (you're more likelky to get Totemic Might as Rogue than Priest)
They also just got 2 solid 1-drops. If anything their early game has improved significantly. NOrthshire was a huge crutch for years and now that the OTK shit is out of the way we might get some other useful draw cards (and if not we can just spam Auctioneer, Priest now has better 0-mana cards than Rogue)
Also, not to be a dick, but 1300+ wins on Priest isn't really that impressive these days unless you only started playing a year ago.
I knew that Maiev missing on the twitter announcement was a heavy clue.
And the mage bundle for Kael'thas too.
I am suddenly happy because I already have Illidan, and I am expecting a buff on him =)
I cannot wait for tomorrow's big reveal!!!
But...can you imagine if they said, "Uh, we're not sure who released the info you saw on Polygon, but someone made all that up. Anyway, we still have some great reveals for you..."
Although, that would be ALOT of stuff to create IF it's BS. I'm hoping it's real. Did I mention that I cannot wait?
O_o
Woah revamping classes is a thing now...? hopefully it isn't just priest that gets revamped. cause almost everything is buffed in priest with some new cards included.
If they are gonna revamp more if not all classes hopefully they can help the meta in both standard and wild.
A new Demon Hunter class and priest is getting some love?! What a glorious time to be alive!!
I'm not entirely sure that the precedent adding classes sets is healthy for the game's longevity, but I welcome the priest retooling.
Overall, I would say it's too early to properly analyse this, but i'm leaning towards excited over sceptical as of now.
Fake imo. Blizzard said multiple times that creating a 10th class was not something that they will do. About the priest rework, I think it's too much even for priest
Well, that is not what blizzard say, IIRC, in the past, when they they talk of the subject ,they say that a new class was not in their plans. But it was a looong time ago. They didn't say never.
Polygon isn't going to post fakes. They were at the press event last month. They goofed on the publish date.
Tinfoil time boys! Do you think maybe we'll get a rework and new hero every expac or is there only going to be priest and DH? More tinfoil time there isn't a new wow class this expac which would align to giving hearthstone 12 classes this year. Or maybe thats just my OCD fueled brain trying to convince me there's not going to be a 10 slot board with 2 missing slots for like four years.
This isn't just one new class.
With the modifications made to Priest, this is solidly two new classes.
Did you see all of the cost reductions? And even more importantly, the viable early drop minions? The cost-favorable board clears? Priest can go aggro now. Priest can go zoo. Priest can go nuts!
As a longtime Priest player, this is insanity.
Insanity indeed... sadly in a bad way. :(
I . . . I am not sure how I feel about this.
I am super hyped for the new class, but also, do we really want a new class? I guess we do, but, do we really? Will this just add to the overall cost of the game in a way that F2P players won't be able to keep up anymore? Will we get more gold/packs/dust to compensate for all of the new cards being added? Will Demon Hunter get cards from GvG, TgT and all of the other wild sets? And will players who have bought all of the adventures just get all of those cards for free? Will all of the wild cards be designed in a way that they would have been good in the old days of Hearthstone, but may be underwhelming now, or will they design the old cards with the same design philosophy with which they design cards now? Will we get 20 deck slots? What is the hero power? How many, if any, free Demon Hunter cards will we be getting? Will they give us free Demon Hunter cards from sets we have already bought packs from, or will we have to go back and buy a ton of old packs to collect all of the cards? Will packs include a larger quantity of cards to make them more consistent in compensation for adding a whole nother group of cards to the game?
Honestly, I am just in shock. I will have to wait a few days to sort out exactly how I feel about this.
*edit* Also, they did a good job on the priest set.
*second edit* I found the hero power right there on the top of the page, I am not sure I like it being 1 mana. I would much rather have a 2 mana hero power that gives your hero +2 attack instead.
I'm just worried the pay wall has just become bigger. With a new class means new legends and less likely you will get the legends you want from packs.
So now basically Power Word: Tentacles is going to be powercreeped by a priest basic card
