Let's compare this to the old version of Keeper of the Grove, the one which had 4 health and saw quite some play. For one less mana, Magehunter has one less health. Also, while the Keeper could either silence a minion or deal two damage, the Magekeeper can both silence a minion and deal two damage to it instantly. Not necessarily better than Consume Magic, but it's still a good option.
Wow that art is fuzzy.
This card is somewhere between Keeper of the Grove, Ironbeak Owl, and Furious Felfin. It silences things for 3 mana like Ironbeak Owl, though it may not survive the attack. It deals less damage than Furious Felfin, but it also silences things. It does both things Keeper of the Grove does, though it will very likely end up a lot smaller than a 2/2. In many ways this card looks balanced and reasonable. Solid 4/5 stars.
Carrion, my wayward grub.
An interesting way to design a silence minion, but unless a deck needs more consume magics, then this probably struggles to see play.
Not expecting to see this in odd DH any time soon.
This post is discussing the wild format.
It's a pretty cool card, but I don't think it's worth running over Kayn Sunfury or Consume Magic and I don't think there's need for more silence-like effects in DH.
Finally a sub-optimal card for DH huh?
It has.. mediocre stats for the cost, but it does have rush so it impacts the board immediatly. It's kinda a cheaper pre-nerf Keeper of the Grove, but I feel like Consume Magic will still be used instead of this, as DH LOVES card draw. Also i don't think pre-nerf Keeper of the Grove would still see play these days, so i don't think a 1 mana cheaper version will. i still feel like it's just mediocre for DH. Which is weird, because it would see a lot of play if it were neutral. This basicly just shows the ridiculous powerlevel of DH i suppose..
RNG is only fun as long as there is a 50/50 chance of getting something really good or trash level of bad. If RNG always results in something good, then it's not fun.
This is a good card.
a 2/3 stat line with rush isn't terrible at 3 mana; Mage, Hunter and Paladin received 4 cost dragons with battlecries with the same stat lines and various effects.
Silencing the minion it attacks is also quite powerful - tempo and aggro decks can sometimes be slowed down by a well placed taunt, and if Kayne Sunfury isn't in hand you may lose the game - so an extra way to go around taunts is massive for those types of decks. Otherwise minions that have been empowered by buff spells and are big threaten to clinch the game in your opponents favor, and this rush minion can undo all of their hard work before they can claim victory.
So basically just situationally better Owl.
It can silence taunts, but not what's behind them. On the flipside it's better statted and can potentially live a turn. Generally feels like a pointless card to print, but it's DH so they deserve it.
I tried having fun once.
It was awful.
Decent card - with Decent Stats and a nice ability - but i'm not sure if this is realy needed or if you simply would play Consume Magic instead. I mean yes, you get a minion on the board so maybe this will find it's way in some decks.
Challenge me ... when you're ready to duel a god!
I have just one question: is the silence going to occur first or the actual attack i.e. can it kill a buffed to 3/2 Battlefiend without dying itself?

Even reading all the comments, I think it's a great card. Almost all rush minions ever were playable, and silence was run a lot even with subpar stats. And this can target elusive minions! And there is always the possibility that this lives for another turn.
Really strong, there are situations where consume just dones't have a proper target and this at least is a solid minion for stats and rush.
seems fairly costed and something you might consider if DRs and buffs are too prevalent.. it's worse than consume magic if you run it into something and it doesn't survive but better and a small DR killer, or taunt silencer.
Silence is always good, this time with a body and direct damage. But DH alreadyhave other tools, this would be more important for other classes.
It should work as Earth Shock.
If silences after the minion attacks, the card powerlevel downs a lot.

It's targetable silence on a rush minion. I'd definitely try this on odd dh.
Ironically very bad against mages since their minions almost never care about being silenced. I think the best comparison for this card is Earth Shock since both accomplish very similar tasks. In that regard, I think this is a meta-specific tech card. If there are a ton of buffs or taunts running around, this can act as an efficient removal or pseudo-Kayn, but I think this is one of the first cuts when perfecting a deck list.
Synergizes with Ace Hunter Kreen. Apparently Demon Hunter now needs to have more silence than Priest.
Very much a tech card, really doubt it’s gonna see much play at all
Who needs consistency when you could have fun?
In some ways its actually worse than Consume Magic or Ironbeak Owl, since it gets walled by taunts . Whether this is playable will depend highly on the meta, but its honestly not an impressive card worth much attention.
Yea, that was my thought exactly. And I think it should work as earth shock, but in the example - it states - silence and then deal 1 dmg to it. Here it says - whenever it attacks - silence it. So it can be interpreted both ways. But I guess I am being just paranoid

Seems pretty weak to me, but not unplayable. It is a different choice for a Silence, which isnt bad, but its DH only, so ... yeah.

DH getting another option to nullify taunt and lifesteal? Definitely what the class needed: more DH-only tech. big kappa
Rage quitting: the best way to ensure your opponent knows they beat a giant baby.
More aggro tools for DH. I think this will be a very strong card.
"Be excellent to each other." -Bill and Ted
Actually seems pretty decent. Rabid Worgen saw play, and this has a trade-off of -1 Attack in exchange for getting rid of Deathrattles or other various effects that would be annoying to deal with (Divine Shield or Lifesteal for example). Sometimes it might even silence more than 1 thing. It seems like it would be pretty nice to try out.
Understated and probably only attacks once. I'd play it over Ironbeak Owl, but that isn't saying much.
Probably not that great, DH already has silence and anti-taunt that's better than this. Highlander maybe?
Wow, if only Demon Hunter's cards were good yet balanced like this one in their first expansion...
Rating cards on coolness factor rather than predicting power because I like screwing up rating averages (and because I suck at predicting real power levels, but we'll ignore that LUL)
Wins per class (2/6/22): DH-197; Druid-996; Hunter-91«60; Mage-1056; Paladin-1126; Priest-746; Rogue-961; Shaman-1095; Warlock-871; Warrior-906
Ok, imagine this being used against Tempo Rogue - you rush this minion against the opponent's X/X Edwin VanCleef or Questing Adventurer, it will survive the hit and will become a nuisance for the opponent. I can also see it being used against some weak taunts - Overconfident Orc, but other than that I don't like how the card gets stopped by taunt. Maybe that's the needed downside to keep it balanced, but personally I wouldn't run it in every meta. Also, let's not forget, that in some cases you will sacrifice this minion for the silence effect, which would be similar to a "3 mana spell, that silences a minion and deals two damage to it", making this a worse Earth Shock in that specific scenario.
So, I don't think it's that crazy overpowered. It's just situationally good.
This card will be very much hated, either because it is OP or because it fails to meet the high expectations that it's text gives.
Official Lorekeeper and Spinner of Tavern Tales
I welcome more silence options for DH - in most cases, this card will only hit once - but considering that it also de-buff as it attacks, it'll be played
Struggle with Heroic Galakrond's Awakening? I got your back :
So DH is the silence class now? Like the flavor, but this doesn't represent an archetype so, just good.
Escaped Manasaber have the same mechanic and the extra mana is given before the minion deals damage.

I don't see a reason a DH would run Magehunter over Consume Magic. Consume Magic is cheaper, can replace itself in hand by drawing a card, and isn't restricted by taunt. Also, the stat upside of Magehunter doesn't really matter as most of the time you care more about the silence effect, which Consume Magic does better. Maybe this sees play after Consume Magic rotates out with the DH Initiate set.
For glory, honor, and gold!
A silence effect that can get blocked by a Taunt isn't going to see play.
I find it funny that an „alright Card" is the Worst that DH got.

Anti Egg tech.
Probably it is meant to be deathtrattle removal rather than taunt or etc. but clears some preparation for spellbursts too.
I'm glad there is a card like this. I like tech options.
Unpopular Opinion Incarnate
Yes you are, Turalyon says same thing and it makes the target minion 3/3 before it deals damage as we saw in reveal stream. So I'm %100 sure Magehunter will work same.
Unpopular Opinion Incarnate
I don't like so much this card. The 1 mana DH silence is much better since 90% this card will die after the first trade. If DH will nead 4 silence this is better than a Owl...but probably will not see play
This is gonna be painful and hated. Why can we just keep the regular neutral card with silence?
10/10 I really dig this one
Lemushki - The one and only since the 2006 rebranding.
Not that much better than Owl, but atleast it counters Edwin.
Looks like we don't need you anymore
Demon Hunter didn't have enough good silence cards yet.
I presume the silence comes after the attack went through so i think it's average, the rush helps it abit
All hail the banshee queen.
If Consume Magic wasn't a card, there's a solid chance this would've seen a good amount of play. I still like it nevertheless, and if the meta becomes buff-heavy, Magehunter can definitely shine.
I think this card is absurdly strong because it works in so many different situation. Many have said that Consume Magic makes this card irrelevant, but the abundance of Evasive minions and minions with annoying effects but not Consume Magic worth effects is ubiquitous.
Being able to invalidate more taunt, deathrattle, and healing minions is really strong for a class that looks to aggro the opponent down quickly.
Demon Hunters have a ton of silence effects now. :/
Unless buff Paladin and/or Priest are taking the meta by storm, this one will wait in the bench. Forever.
I ca see this getting some fringe play, but not much to be honest.
Kamikadze minion

Another lovely new DH card that can silence. :) Welcome to the family.
Thanks to denial, I'm immortal.
And Spellbreaker died for this
I think I agree with you, it does too much for very little to be completely ignored.
Nice implementation for silence, and even works well with Trueaim Crescent
TREMBLE before.... the most legendary dragon that ever existed!
I love this use of Silence.
Quick! Someone give me something clever to write here.
It says "When" not "After", so it will silence before attacking the minion. :)
Thanks to denial, I'm immortal.
Will kill Edwin VanCleef. Seems good.
Great art, good stats, overall a decent card.
Solid Silence option. I don't know that Demon Hunter really needs that right now - especially with Kayn Sunfury for avoiding Taunts - but maybe there exists a meta with a lot of threats you want debuffed.
