  • The Best Deals Anywhere - Card Design Competition Discussion Thread

Wednesday is my first day off in the weekly cycle, so my feedback usually has to wait until now. Apologies if you've already submitted by this time:

    Show Spoiler

Demonxz95 - I like it a lot. The flavor is very on-point, and it pairs well with the handbuffing we've seen from FitB and now the Paladin set in UiS.

Neoguli - The art is great with the name, and it's a very interesting design. Instantly breaking your "weapon" would feel weird, but I understand why it functions like that. One problem I have is playing it on turn-1: the Battlecry would go off, giving you an immediate board of two 1/1s. Putrid Chalice + Coin + Putrid Chalice #2 would be six Imps on turn 1. In my opinion, it cannot remain at 1-mana.

R - Looks good, although there is seemingly zero reason to ever play it (unless you're desperate or your deck has run out). The mana cheating just seems more preferable.

AeroJulwin - Seems cool, but maybe too powerful? You're going up a card overall for just one mana, and this could make the Questline very consistent.

Lundy - I think "Trainer" is fine: you're paying for their service in the form of Trade. Gives them a different aspect to Trading besides the more-obvious merchant angle. In terms of UiS sets, Shadoweave is more on-point with the intended archetype than Frostweave (which, Questline aside, seems to be Fire and more Fire).

cydonianknight - I like this a lot. She encourages something different than all-Shadow, bucking against the intended archetype a bit, but there's something cool about the flavor of switching between forms constantly.

FieselFitz - I think the stats are fine, to be honest. Not every Tradeable card in the game came with a lot of Tradeable flavor, but it's gonna hurt you regardless based on what I'm reading :(

Wailor - I definitely prefer the second art: the first one is rather messy. The card is fine; you should definitely play up its combination with Tavish Stormpike and Warsong Wrangler in your description, because those seem like the main reason to throw back a Beast.

Arkasaur - I would go with "(1) less". "(2) less" pushes you away from using it on an enemy minion, which halves the flexibility of the card. I think the card is cool and good-to-go otherwise.

Hordaki - He's expensive, but I understand why. Doesn't attach well with the SI:7 archetype, but who would have guessed that's where they were going with the Questline? Ultimately I think the card is good-to-go.

anchorm4n - This is Forbidden Flame with more steps, although you do get to cycle through your deck a bit. Not sure how I feel about it, but I think the fact that it can go face is what tips the scale for me in the negative. Also confused as-to how it would work with a second copy: do both copies keep track of the Trades together, or are they separate? The latter would make a mess of things, while the former might lead to 1-mana Pyroblasts.

  • New Hunter Weapon - Leatherworking Kit

If a form of swarm hunter can take off then this will be played in it 100%. I don't know how powerful it will be, but I like blizzard giving token decks more refill to give them the stability that they always suffered from.

  • Full Details on Hearthstone's New Reward Track for United in Stormwind Including Hero Skins for Guff, Scabbs, Tamsin, and Yrel

My personal opinion would be sad because I will not reach the end of the rewards track. It just sounds better in my mind to claim I completed such a feat.

However, I am happy for the bigger grinders out there, because they can still collect as much gold as before per rewards track.

  • New Mage Spell - First Flame

Supergood control tool, deal with two little minions at early stops a lot of aggro decks.

  • New Hunter Spell - Defend the Dwarven District

Time to give machine gun priests a taste of their own medicine . . .

  • New Druid Spell - Sow the Soil

A decent board buff to push for extra damage. I imagine in most cases you wouldn't want to summon the treant, but it is still nice to have the option.

  • New Hunter Minion - Stormwind Piper

Hunter can swarm the board with beasts easilly, but i don't have any hope on the archetype.

  • New Druid Minion - Wickerclaw

I wish this was the other way around. I think what "Feral" Druid is missing is not more payoff for giving your hero attack, but rather more ways to give your hero attack that are actually playable. This card is far from weak, but I am a little disappointed that there weren't any hero buff cards in this set aside from Park Panther.

  • New Neutral Minion - Lion's Guard

The base stats and cost are pretty decent. If you are facing a deck where turn 5 needs the  taunt, those extra stats will be nice and you will probably hit the health requirement. Pretty good card to include in controlling decks.

  • New Neutral Minion - City Architect

I don't know how much this helps. The zero attack minions only push the damage to  next turn, they don't even help with trading options. You still face the same minions plus the new turn's worth. I guess if you are desperate to draw a board clear it might help.

  • New Druid Minion - Vibrant Squirrel

It's a little slow and unreliable. But if your token deck has enough draw (which it might with the help of Composting), then the extra refill could be quite helpful for staying afloat in the mid-late game.

  • New Neutral Minion - Mo'arg Forgefiend

Pretty solid play for late game. It should help with lasting another turn. Not only does it eat up 8 damage to clear but it also gives the 8 armor. I think any deck looking for long game play will run this guy.

  • New Priest Minion - Twilight Deceptor

Nice, did not think of this interaction.
Great card for shadow priest, for other archetypes I don't see a place for it.

  • New Demon Hunter Spell - Chaos Leech

As it seems like alot of the comments are already saying, worse Eye Beam.  However, once Eye Beam rotates, maybe it sees some play.  One time its really better is off of the Felgorger

  • Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick Calls Original Response Tone Deaf, Responds to Lawsuit

I agree with your points but I feel like I have to add to the last part.

I really think that a lot of people are extremely suspicious of the idea of "removing offensive in-game content" because time and time again this kind of stuff leads to completely innocuous stuff being axed only to appease a vocal minority of moral busy-bodies (not unlike the ultra-religious outragemongers of the past). Basically, there is a real chance (even if it might not happen, we don't have enough evidence as of now) that it might lead to pointless censorship whose only purpose is to appease a small section of the public while not actually achieving anything of value.

Removing the very concept of cleavage from a game where characters dress in the stupidest gear imaginable is not only hypocritical but also doesn't actually help women in the real world in any way and if that is indeed something that results from all of this it would be an extremely disappointing and disingenuous outcome.

My stance is this: Everything that comes out of this should concern the actual employees, the work environment at the company, and how these things are handled internally, not the honour of fictional women in a videogame. That is a different conversation and it needs to be seperated from the present issue as not to undermine it.

  • New Demon Hunter Minion - Stubborn Merchant

Def not a bad card, but the need to run two in a deck kinda hurts this.  I don't think this is better than Renowned Performer, and this is bad if both get pulled by Death Speaker Blackthorn at the same time.  Might be run in some Deathrattle decks, but not all.  Still a super cool idea tho, like the tradable aspect.

  • WCDC Season 4 Suggestions

    Quote From linkblade91

From a personal angle, it should eliminate situations where I receive an all-1-vote; which, frankly, I don't think I should ever earn, because at the very least my cards are well executed and without mistakes. At least give me a 2!...Does that make me selfish for saying that? lol :/

Tbh, I don't think that makes you selfish at all, when I've looked at the transparency report before there's often situations where I shout "how in the ever-living f*** did that get 1 star?" I understand there's personal opinion and things, but like you say, lack of mistakes is a pretty objective success, even if you don't like the effect or flavour.

  • New Priest Spell - Void Shard

I even like this for control priest, very nice.

  • New Druid Spell - Composting

You only need to draw 2-3 cards to get value, and in a dedicated token deck that shouldn't be hard. I like blizzard giving more recovery tools to aggro decks so that hopefully they won't have to rely on snowballing their way to victory every game but can instead be a bit slower and more controlled.

  • Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick Calls Original Response Tone Deaf, Responds to Lawsuit

It's something, and I hope it's in good faith. It's not the same as a firm selected by a company-wide DEI organization (my own workplace - a  non-union medium sized NPO - just did this - both the democratic employee org and their selection of the third party firm), and it's not clear that the firm is there to look at HR enforcement and upper management or if they'll simply be the third party facilitating "listening sessions." I will hope for the best, while recognizing the performative politics that people detest are most likely to come from corporate.

  • New Demon Hunter Weapon - Lion's Frenzy

At best case scenario its gonne deal like 8-9 damage.  Not bad, but thats best case.  And it means that you cant attack with your hero (a big thing DH likes to do) if you can't draw that turn.  Just not good enough.  Maybe at 4 mana and three durability it would be better.

  • New Demon Hunter Minion - Felgorger

I mean alot of the fel spells are already 1 mana, meaning some cost reduction in wasted.  However, it also puts them in the Outcast slot (only really applicable to Felosophy and Chaos Leech tho).  Decent card, but only for complete Jace Build around decks (of which I don't see happening)

  • WCDC Season 4 Suggestions

As much as I like the idea of having three categories to have a more accurate and representative rating of each card, it's a lot to consider for each card that could be submitted to a comp. I personally quite like taking about 30 seconds to a minute to look at a card and then just slap a 1-5 star rating on it, kind of like Hearthstone Tinder. Then again, putting more thought into how I think about cards isn't really a bad thing, I'm just concerned that this slightly more complex system could turn people off from voting thus leaving less votes overall.

As for scrapping the finalist phase, it feels almost blasphemous, but I do agree that it might be better if it goes away. The amount of times you look at a Transparency Report, and see who got the number 1 card in the voting phase also gets last in the finalist phase or something similar is kinda disheartening. I'm all for scrapping the finalist phase.

As for increasing rewards, why not, seems like a fantastic idea.

If the finalist phase isn't scrapped, then there is one proposal I have for it. If a card had a description box in the voting phase and makes it to the finalist phase, can this description box be kept on the finalist page? I know a card should speak for itself, but sometimes that description just helps to imagine decks where the card could be useful, or strategies with the card, design decisions or maybe even flavour. Like I said, the card should speak for itself, but seeing these extra little bits is so helpful towards giving an accurate and fair rating.

  • New Neutral Minion - Battleground Battlemaster

I see this as the top end of an aggro deck. You can set it up for the  most advantageous double face hits. If you are really clever you can even use it for wide boards to do double duty as hitting face and trading. Even running it in a deck that only gets one or two big minions out  can get some good value off this card. I think it will see play in several styles.

  • New Demon Hunter Spell - Final Showdown

When this works, it will be super powerful.  However, it will almost never go off in a regular game, and by the time it does, you'll only have like 4 cards left in your deck.  The problem is, losing tempo just to draw cards is such a punishing effect.  TBF, the rewards of just discounting some of your cards by 1 is pretty good on the way, but you'll almost never complete the final part in time.  I like the entrance sound effect tho, very cool.
