  • I think I fixed Quest Hunter

    Quote From SLima

Last season i almost made to legend using a Highlander version of Quest Hunter that i created. The deck traded the consistency of duplicates for the sheer power of the Highlander cards. Dinotamer Brann is a powerful finisher and is also two bodies in one card. Pre-nerf Dragonqueen Alexstrasza was three bodies in one card and Zephrys just does a lot of different things. I could also experiment with some slower cards like Nagrand Slam and it was a very powerful finisher with a great synergy with the quest. DH was the main problem that prevented me from achieving legend.

I tried rebuilding the deck but this meta has too many giant minions and mana cheating and the deck can't deal with all that stuff. Dragonqueen Alexstrasza is too slow and weak now and we don't have enough time to complete the quest or even get to 10 mana to play Nagrand Slam. I like the idea of having multiple Zixors but those giant boards and big high rolls are really discouraging. Professor Slate could be a decent tech against such big threats but he lacks support to do his job properly. It will take some serious meta shifts for the deck to become a stronger contender once again.

Isn't the quest just a downgrade at that point? The whole point is to get the reward quickly and pressure with it, wouldn't running only 1 of each token card make it kind of...pointless? Dinotamer Brann doesn'T exactly benefit from the Quest in any particular way.

  • New Shadow Isles Card - Duskrider

Does it work with itself? if you haven't played any nightfall cards but you activate the nightfall effect on this card is it a 3-5?

But doing nightfall on a  5 mana card means you probably have to have spell mana over to start the effect.

Need some good 0-1 cost cards otherwise to combine with nightfall not sure if they are already in the game and if they are gonna add new ones.

Man you got me on the brink of crafting the quest again. Maybe I'll dust my golden Lord Barov.

Wouldn't do that yet. If Stealth Rogue continues to rise Quest Hunter won't be a lot of fun to play.

  • How the Battlepass Issue may ruin F2P

Getting about 80 packs from gold usually amounts to about 4 to 5 legendaries and several epics. The dust you get from doubles is uaually enough for another 2 legends and some epis you are missing. For a F2P system that is okay-ish. Personally I still get a preorder here and there to keep my dust resources from dwindling. Even in this situation this game has received more money than I have paid for any other game collectively over the past 5 years so it is not like they are not making frequent money off of me.

The system as it is right now works but if it gets changed to the current iteration of this battlepass, it will force players to invest money if they want to have any hope to play ranked.

Priest absolutely cannot deal with it (unless you let them steal Zixor or are dumb enough to play into Mindrender)

So all you have to do is not play Zixor until you can trade it off, while also playing Zixor immediately to play around an early Mindrender... check! ;)

    Quote From YourPrivateNightmare

Warrior's only actual out is Rattlegore (which is actually pretty effective and you can't deal with it), [...] Paladin can be difficult if they snowball but I have put in the tools to somewhat deal with it.

Would it be an option to include Ironbeak Owl or would that mess up Scavenger's Ingenuity?

    Quote From YourPrivateNightmare

Only Rogue is a truly terrible matchup based on the fact that Stealth counters Rush.

Since most of their stealth minions have 1 health, maybe Knife Juggler is a viable counter? It has synergy with the rest of the deck against other opponents as well.

Another option could be Flare, but that's probably too situational. Although Flare + Gryphon would counter Twilight Runner.

Last time I played Quest Hunter, Clear the Way was a bit of an awkward card, since you lose its benefit if it overlaps with Swarm of Locusts. Maybe one copy would be enough?

Is there a place for Tracking in this deck? Post-completion there are quite a few cards that you would rather skip, while in the early game it can be useful if you didn't draw a good curve.

I might give it a go, but I'm missing Veranus. Perhaps that's just worth crafting though, if it's good enough to be played outside of dragon decks as well.

Owl is a fine tech choice, Ingenuity is mostly there for draw anyways. It's just a bit situational in my opinion. I'd only run it if the Warrior and Paladin are extremely prevalent.

Veranus is kind of a staple for Quest Hunter (and Highlander too if I recall correctly) so if you're really interested in the playstyle it's a must.

I do have to warn you though, Stealth Rogue is on the rise and Quest Hunter just can't beat them...at least not unless you gimp the deck hard by running Explosive Traps

EDIT: Completely forgot, yeah, Clear the Way is a bit awkward at two, it's probably better at one (or ditched entirely, maybe even for the aforementioned Explosive Trap). Without Springpaw it'S gotten a bit too clunky for my taste. I'm also thinking of doubling up on Cult Master because I really need the draw.

Knife Juggler could work but is probably too slow. You wanna use it early but can't stick it on the board against rogue so it only really works in the midgame where you're most likely already losing

Tracking is a bit of a hate card of mine. I jsut don't like the discard effect. It also has anti-synergy with shuffling multiple Zixors.. I'd rather just run more draw.

  • Nightfall is a New Keyword Coming in Call of the Mountain - 5 New Shadow Isles Cards Revealed

So this is basically like combo from HS right, seems cool.

  • Nightfall is a New Keyword Coming in Call of the Mountain - 5 New Shadow Isles Cards Revealed

So it is 4 Taragon champions then? Thought it would be 2 regions per 2 months.

I am glad we are seeing nocturne earlier but Taragon is gonna come out weaker.

  • New Shadow Isles Card - Doombeast

Health regain is always pretty nice, direct damage to the enemy  nexus also nice, statline is okay.

    Quote From Pezman

I've been having a blast (and quite a few wins) with Quest Hunter since DoD came out. My deck runs King Krush, Beastmaster Leoroxx, Scavenger's Ingenuity and Ramkahen Wildtamer as a win condition. With a little luck, you can blast 36 to face on turn 10. I can share the list if anyone's interested.

please do. I actually ran into a list like that while testing and I actually beat themm (though I suppose they drew rather poorly). My list was always intended as a value deck first and foremost, but maybe going full finisher is the better choice

  • New Shadow Isles Spell - Encroaching Shadows

The buff is sizable, has no condition and can be played on turn 3 but it means you get no good blockers for the rest of the game, will be experimented with, probably not that great.

    Quote From Grumpy000

what does include the sentence "summoned but not played"?

It basically means the unit needs to enter the board in a different way than by being played from hand.

  • New Freljord Champion - Trundle

Might be a bit of a sleeper?   6 damage is not easy to deal in one round right now, so I suppose at worst, this will eat up a lot of your opponent's resources, and if you can level up, it's what - at least a 6/7 with Overwhelm and Regeneration?

My initial reaction was that this isn't a flashy card so therefore not great, but it actually seems fairly solid.

  • New Shadow Isles Spell - Passage Unearned

Insta win versus cards like the harrowing.

  • New Shadow Isles Card - Duskrider

So on curve, you need to have activated Nightfall at least 4 times for this to be remotely playable?  I'll pass.

  • Hearthstone Grandmasters 2020 Season 2 - Week 1 Results, Decklists, Disqualifications, and More!

I didn't even watch it, but I'm throwing an opinion about this firebat issue here. I think it was partially Firebat's fault to ignore the check-in ... but a 1000$ fine? Who the hell would want to join a tournament that fines you 1000$ if something wrong happens to you and you don't show up. That's just ridiculous to me, yet again Firebat got a lot of money, maybe he doesnt bother? Am I the only one who thinks 1000$ is too much?

Edit: I thought they held Firebat in a high regard. Wasn't he always gonna be "their first"? Kappa

  • New Shadow Isles Card - Doombeast

It's flexible but definitely situational too.  If you're already at full health you're not really excited for a 3-mana 3/2 unless it's winning the game for you.

  • New Shadow Isles Card - Stygian Onlooker

1-mana 2/1 with a false upside?  I don't see this being that good.

  • Nightfall is a New Keyword Coming in Call of the Mountain - 5 New Shadow Isles Cards Revealed

The followers here seem all right to me, nothing too crazy but not too weak either. Passage unearned seems a bit too situational, but it can obviously be very strong in the right situation. Encroaching shadows is by far my favorite card out of these. I don't think it will be good but I will definitely have fun trying to make it work, probably in a deck with a lot of last breath and ephemeral synergies.

And since Nocturne is very likely to be the next champion, I am very curious and excited to see what he does. One thing we can probably safely assume is that he either has nightfall himself or synergises with other nightfall cards (maybe both). I also believe Nocturne will be the first champion added to Runeterra that is not currently assigned to a specific region in Runeterra (at least according to universe.leagueoflegends.com).

  • New Shadow Isles Spell - Encroaching Shadows

Good for Hecarim decks?  But that's about it.

what does include the sentence "summoned but not played"?

Effects like The Rekindler or Dawn and Dusk.

  • New Shadow Isles Spell - Passage Unearned

Easy 2-of, it will be a solid and relatively cheap answer in a lot of situations.

  • New Shadow Isles Spell - Encroaching Shadows

Smells like a meme generator, but it can be tutored, so you might be able to consistently apply multiple copies to create an extremely threatening situation.

I can see it being paired with Elusives.

  • How the Battlepass Issue may ruin F2P

bah ... the unique way to make people happy is if the system will allow to store "next expansion" packs (to open when expansion starts)

Old expansions pack have no value ... whatever is needed to be competitive has been already crafted. So ,in my view, to be proud of old packs as reward is just a joke.

  • New Shadow Isles Spell - Passage Unearned

    LOVE IT.

A solid answer to Rekindler and D&D cheese. Thank you, Riot!

  • New Shadow Isles Card - Stygian Onlooker

Balanced 1-drop, which means you'll use it if it suits the deck, but it's definitely not an auto-include.
