It's clear now that blizzard will never nerf the rez mechanic, a mechanic in wild that is so abused and annoying to play against, yet so easy to pilot that a lot of people are still playing it even now. And it's clear there is no stopping it, since bliz is even now releasing cards like Raise Dead and Vectus for the neverending bullshit that is Convincing Infiltrator spam. And i have gotten tired of trying to voice my opinion about it just to hear people tell me it's fair and balanced and fun to play against just because it's their favorite deck to play in wild. So i'm just going to make this thread three times a year, or until the mechanic is fixed.
What is this thread you ask? Well a year ago there was a deck:
made by morkimus to combat the endless spam that is the rez mechanic. That was when rise of shadows came out, where rez decks were still big decks, and not just designed to be as annoying and grindy as possible until they got their quest reward online to start hitting you in the face with big minions you couldn't remove. In retrospect that version was more tame. But i digress. This thread and the ones to come, will be about adapting this deck to the current expansion's rez priest. When morkimus made their deck they included a lot of cards to where the deck might not auto lose to other matchups, and i think that is redundant now. I think it should be 100% focused on destroying rez priest entirely.
Okay that's enough of my rambling, here's where you come in, i will be testing these changes out myself but other opinions are always welcome :)
[Hearthstone Card (Lorekeeper polkelt) Not Found](basically freeze mage, play polkelt topdeck blizzard freeze them out for an OTK, Just keep telling yourself the whole time, that running Mindrender Illucia in a rez deck is bad deck design and don't be too upset when they play it anyway.)
If there's anything i missed let me know, but i think i got pretty much everything. In closing rez priest is not a hard opponent to beat with the right deck, just about any control deck with [Hearthstone Card (chef gnomi) Not Found], and enough removal can beat it. But this deck isn't designed for that. It's designed to make the rez priest feel bad they picked that deck to play. It wants to make them question every mage they see might be the unwinnable matchup. To make the priest stop joining games with their rez deck and think they've won on turn one because they had Convincing Infiltrator and two Resurrect in their mulligan. It's for that reason. If you have a similar deck let me know i'm down to check it out!
Your'e right, of course, I took the assumption presented in this article as truth, and that's probably wrong and remains to be seen how bad it will be to remain a casual player (it's not like I have a choice to be another kind).
So far, the fact you gain "last expansion" packs from playing ranked did a lot of good for my dust stockpile (its really easy to get to platinum in a few days, MMR or not) , not getting rarity duplicates also did a lot of good, I can only hope this will as well.
Some changes are always good and for a game in its current sate are well anticipated. But instead of attracting new players seems like they focus on milking existing ones even more...
In order not to create a topic about avatars, I will write here. I am not the only one who is not comfortable reading messages on the forum when everyone has the same avatar? It doesn't take long, so why doesn't almost anyone do it? For the site team: I'm not against the default avatar, but I have a suggestion. What do you think about making a different background on the default avatar so that users somehow differ from each other. Or even set by default a random avatar from the pool of games reviewed on this site.
Secound this, would be better in the eyes if lazy users will get something random rather than everyone being the unicorn.
As a f2p player, i get about 10200 gold per 4 months (120 days * ( 55g average quest + 30g for a bunch of games won ) ) if i'm active. With this i'd get 7790 plus 2 legendaries and 2 epics... And no trickle of gold every day to play arena when i feel like it or buy packs on a whim. And, also, 1400 of these golds are in packs which i do not care at all about since they are from a prior expansion. Honestly, if this comes out, i will probably play muuuch less... This could be added, yes, but not to replace the existing rewards. How about adding it to the rewards? And keep gold quests and match rewards. Right now this just sounds like MAKING me play more for MUCH less rewards. Rubbish in my opinion...
Seems interesting, did you play this decklist at higher diamond ranks? I will test ist, just replayced one Secure the Deck with a Leeroy Jenkins for testing (don't have a second Secure the Deck).
Can I just say its kinda interesting you classify Glide as an anti fun card and to screw over control decks. While you classify Mindrender Illucia as an interesting tech card.
To be fair the priest class has been the default "Lose to combo deck" class for a long time now, since mage, druid, warrior, and rogue through discover effects can gain enough armor to be out of range of combo decks, priest can't. Look up any combo deck on youtube and most of the time it'll be against a slow control priest that 100% sees the combo coming and is unable to do anything about it.
That said.
It should have a higher manacost. You shouldn't be able to play it and just win the game against almost every matchup.
Thats good and all, but I don't think it's healthy for a slow control deck to have an auto win card against its worst matchup.
One possible use for Lorekeeper Polkelt would be for Warlock to cheat out Flesh Giant (unless sorting accounts for current cost) or Hand of Gul'dan, but having the deck ordered like that could be annoying after that. So I guess then shuffle in Soul Fragments to shuffle the deck. Sounds really niche and kinda annoying to use.
On deck it should consider the original manacost... remember OTK paladin decks dealing 25 damage with Shirwallas even though they were discounted?
As a casual F2P, I do hope Blizzard rethinks this. Giving rewards in the form of packs is a terrible idea, even if they were comparable in value to the gold we get now. I save my gold for the *next* expansion so I don't have to grind out the new expansion packs one by one.
Side topic: I would like to see, outside of dailies, more incentive for just playing the game and not necessarily winning. I think the state of the game would be improved for everyone if we aren't pushed to only play 'winning' decks.
It should have a higher manacost. You shouldn't be able to play it and just win the game against almost every matchup.
The problem is that by increasing the manacost of Ilucia you make her unusable, because you would not be able to cast cards from your opponents hand, while he will be on fulll mana crystals. So this will not happen.
I took this deck for a spin this morning at Diamond 10 and couldn't get any traction - ended up going 1W 7L or something... just got stomped by Paladins and Druids over and over.
Decided to swap out 1x Beaming Sidekick & 1x Umberwing for 2x Consume Magic and I've since gone 13W 1L with the adjusted deck, with one silly mistake against a Rogue.
Haven't really felt attracted to the DH class since it launched, but this deck is changing my mind. Thank you!
EDIT: Managed to hit legend 2 days later.
Some misc stats...
Games from Diamond 10 to Legend: 62 Total wins: 41 Total losses: 21
Matchups...
vs Druid: 10 wins, 3 losses vs Hunter: 1 win, 1 loss vs Mage: 3 wins, 2 losses vs Paladin: 12 wins, 3 losses vs Priest: 5 wins, 0 losses vs Rogue: 4 wins, 7 losses vs Shaman: 2 wins, 1 loss vs Warlock: 2 wins, 3 losses vs Warrior: 2 wins, 1 loss
I didn't face any other Demon Hunters along the way.
Paladin, Druid & Priest were difficult matchups, and I was surprised when looking back at the stats. I fought a lot of tough games where I thought I was gonna lose for sure, but so many times I managed to claw back the win with a well placed Consume Magic + Marrowslicer + discounted Glaivebound Adept x2 combo. There were a few times that I considered removing the 2nd Skull of Gul'dan from my deck because it kept getting in the way of lethals, but ultimately I left it there because drawing it before I was able to force it with Lorekeeper Polkelt usually resulted in a loss, or a very uncomfortable transition into the combo.
The deck felt good because I didn't rely on the combo for my only win condition. The early game pressure you can apply to your opponents often leaves them vulnerable to a quick Marrowslicer + Twin Slice x2 (or x4) kill at around turn 6.
Stealth / Aggro Rogue felt impossible to beat. So many times I was one game away from Legend before facing a Rogue. This is a very difficult matchup and the only times I won were when they didn't draw Secret Passage.
Control / Big Warrior also felt impossible to beat. Fortunately I only faced one of them.
Really happy I stumbled upon this deck - it was good fun, and I learned a lot about the class along the way.

I may wait to see if we get more info about this in the Developer talks on Tuesday, or whenever it is this week. If this pass system is actually in addition to the gold system... not so bad. If they implemented a battle pass while not messing with the current quest system I think it'd be great. Even if there was no free tier to the battle pass, or if the free tier offered way less in terms of rewards, who cares! Just leave the current quest system for those who grind out 80-100 or more packs worth of gold throughout the course of an expansion.
Haven't had this much fun with a standard deck since probably the introduction of standard. Only lost to an Aggro Rogue, so yeah this is crazy strong. Didn't encounter a Mozari Mage, but that match-up sounds very 50/50 to me, since both decks are capable of OTK'ing. So that means it all depends who draws its combo pieces first.
You will always get your first legendary in the first 10 packs. Blizzard introduced a new mechanic where the first packs of an expansion have a legendary pity timer of 10. After that it reverts to 40. I think I have typically gotten my second before the next 20 packs, but my third often feels like I get close to 40.

Okay that's enough of my rambling, here's where you come in, i will be testing these changes out myself but other opinions are always welcome :)
Potential additions by expansion:
Saviors of Uldum:
Reno the Relicologist
Puzzle Box of Yogg-Saron(?)
Zephrys the Great(potential highlander possibility in wild. zephrys can get Cabal Shadow Priest early)
Golden Scarab(potentially more Polymorph)
Descent of Dragons(and Galakrond's Awakening):
Malygos, Aspect of Magic(mainly for Malygos's Polymorph, but eight damage from Malygos's Flamestrike wouldn't be bad either or even Malygos's Intellect for draw)
The Amazing Reno POOF
Ashes of Outland:
Evocation(potentially more Polymorph)
Magtheridon(i would never craft this card for this deck, but it does make sense for the matchup.)
Infectious Sporeling(sounds good but probably doesn't work, priest has removal for things like this)
Terrorguard Escapee(one of the new cards for this deck. Mostly an excuse as to why they haven't nerfed the rez mechanic, but it could work nicely)
Scholomance Academy:
Devolving Missiles(potentially not good enough, but i'll try it out.)
Sphere of Sapience(tutor for polymorph effects)
