Struggling on completing some tasks of the Mercenaries Leeroy Jenkins limited-time event? We've got your back. Here's a guide explaining what you should do and the best comps to get there in the third Task, Lot Of Trouble In The Past.
Just a short while after the first-ever Mercenaries limited time event, featuring Chi-ji and its companions, Team 5 is back at it with another one. This time, we'll venture into many dangerous Bounty zones with the aid of Leeroy Jenkins, an iconic World of Warcraft player and one of Hearthstone's fan favorite cards of all time.
Our journey won't be in search of just fame and success, but you'll be able to complete a set of 10 event Tasks, which will reward you coins for Leeroy and many other goodies.
Here are all the tasks that are available during the Leeroy Jenkins Mercenaries event. Click any of the links below to visit our guide for the task.
As you can see, these tasks are quite the mixed bag: while some are fairly simple to complete, others require more than a bit of thinking (and luck: that one's always welcome) and planning ahead.
Moreover, certain tasks clearly state that you need Comps consisting on Mercenaries belonging to specific races in order for your progresses to count: the Chi-Ji event was about Beasts and Dragons, and this time you'll need the help of Orcs, Humans and Dragons.
Not all challenges might be as difficult as they seem at a glance: there are usually tips and tricks to be found to make everyone's lives easier. In this series of guides we'll take a look at how to complete each event Task, so that you'll be able to get your hands on all the rewards available. As of now, we'll focus our attention on our current task.

As we already know from the task 1 guide, Smolderwing will appear on the battlefield supported by two Fire-Starved Whelps, resulting in a Red/Green fight for your Mercenaries. Each of these three units has an aura ability.
On your side of the board, you'll find a 0/500 Stonemaul Banner, with Stone and Maul, which will basically negate the On Fire recoil damage inflicted by Smolderwing's aura effect.
While the Whelps will focus on simply attacking you, Smolderwing has a vary set of skills, among which, Black Flight deserves attention: being Immune to physical attacks, you want your comp to focus on special damage, and fortunately for us there are a couple options out there.
In order for Stonemaul Banner to be able to deal the final blow to Smolderwing, we don't have many ways at disposal: there are only two Mercs with an ability that gives stats to another minion regardless of the tribe it belongs to - Cariel Roame with Seal of Light 1 and Tirion Fordring with Blessing of Kings 1.
You may want to get to the final boss with a wide selection of strategies, but you'll always have to rely on one of these Mercs (or both) to get the job done.
Here are a few Mercenaries parties you can use to complete the "Lot Of Trouble In The Past" task. You'll be able to choose between many comps, suggested by different content creators, as well as mentions of budget alternatives for our readers that don't have many Legendary Mercs in their collection.
Note: if you want to complete this task in Heroic mode, make sure to include Nefarian and/or Deathwing in you comp, as defeating Smolderwing will reward you with their third equipment.
Pretty much the same strategy we suggested for the second task, but with some minor adjustments to match task 3's requirement.
To prove this comp of being fit for this task, we recorded a video showing you that you can pull this off with ease. Unfortunately, we lost Cornelius Roame in the last fight before Smolderwing, but we didn't need it anymore, so we were still able to seal the deal without much sweat.
Here are a few tips for those unfamiliar with this strategy.
Same strategy, different build to climb to the boss with: Old Guardian decided to rely on Nature synergy in order to get to the Smolderwing fight, and of course Cariel Roame makes the cut because, you know, you have to complete the task.
While for the final fight you'll use the same Mercenaries of the already showcased Holy Comp, Sk8erBoizzz decided to make the climb with the ol' reliable Fire comp.

I had to try it a couple of times, but definitely Cariel is a must.
Interesting iteration happens also with leeroy and rokara, if you use her 2nd ability while using leeroy 3rd it could proc before the banner attacks, or more simple try to find the treasure boots for rokara before the final boss
First, thank you for compiling all these solutions in a series of linked articles! That helps a lot for those of us trying to complete the event.
Second, Harmonic Mallet for Anduin seems much more useful than Ring of Purity; I would recommend equipping the former by default.

Ring of Purity 1 is there only because it's easier to unlock than Harmonic Mallet but, as we already stated in the task 2 guide, if you already own the latter then go for it. Fixed the wrong party code.

Oh man, I didn't think about Cariel!
I did manage to complete this using Mukla's ability to toss some stats around. It got awkward though - by the time I had Smolderwing down to a killable range, I had to heal him before he attacked a Merc large enough to finish him off.
So that's my hot tip: include somebody (like Xyrella) who can apply a targeted heal to friend or foe.
