LoR seems to have some of the core mechanics of HS (damage persist on creatures, mana that increase each turn) but also some of the best thing of MtG (chance to interact during your opponent's turn, no RNG effects). It's also pretty nice to watch and well polished. If it'll have a good economic system and many different modes (not at the beginning, but later at last) than it may actually be a real threat for HS. And LoR will also be on mobile, the platform on which HS is dominant and where it has the majority of its players.
HS' playerbase is shrinking little by little since a couple of years but Blizzard has taken very few step in the right direction to stop this loss or to bring more players. Some extra free packs is good, but the game is still untouched since forever and after 5 years of release it has introduced very few change and features. Even many of the top streamers have abandoned it for something else because bored by it.
Maybe LoR will not kill HS totally, but even if it'll fail I really hope that its threat may force Team 5 to release a sort of HS 2.0, with all those big changes the community is asking for a long time.
First of all there is SOME RNG in the game, there are some cards that have random, not as many as in HS but I can already name a few: spell generators, teemo mushrooms, some random revive/evolve effects at least the discard and handbuff mechanics are not random which is great cause those 2 mechanics are very frustrating to use on HS.
I don't think HS will just die off specially cause it got his big strengths over any other digital card game currently, mostly that it's very easy to follow and appeals much to the casual audience.
I really hope that what you say comes true but, a 2.0 game is sort of admitting defeat HoTS did it and it's essentially a dead game right now I doubt they will go an overhaul the game (although it's much needed) after it didn't work with HoTS..
The game isn't even in beta yet, so there will be a lot of changes to it before release.. It will be a main competitor for sure, and I don't think hs will be a "dead game" though. But, Blizzard will have to fight harder to get players, and hopefully put more effort into the game and into it's economy.
Felt games ended way more quickly than they should've the hp pool seems really low, every attack to nexus is much stronger than in hs, been playing an aggressive discard deck (draven + jinx) and almost gone undefeated also augmented experimenter is a card that I am not sure how it even left the planning table that card not only is a jinx activator and a refill he deals 3 damage on top of that? also not restricted to followers?
I will explain it's effect: 6 mana: 3/3 (the stat value are slightly higher than in hs so it's 3.5 drop stats) discard your whole hand and draw 3 cards then deal 3 damage.
the only counter to it is deny(from ionia, 3 cost burst spell) or to recall it's target, ye this card does too much.
I mean sure the game isn't even in beta but I already got a feeling that such aggressive decks are way too good, also most people say "there's an advantage to the defender" well.. there is no advantage if the defenders get killed by burst spells and quick attack followers/champions.
I think aggro might be too good, but that being said I didn't face any actual control deck yet, maybe, I am not sure what is a control deck.. freljord?
All that being said probably played mostly against people who never played card games before, and I am probably too hung on this deck that is easy to build/pilot and is probably just beating unexperienced players rather than being strong, except the 6 drop that is stupid strong.

BTW did you know that if you beat 4 different chapters with an explorer you can upgrade the 4th treasure (in this case the 4/4 charge, rag winfury guy)
My problem with this game is that there are only so many champions in League, and only so many regions. Unlike Hearthstone which is based on WoW, a massive expanse with vast territories to explore and delve into, LoR is limited to the base game itself. They can only add so many champions to LoR, before they have to start making new ones completely from scratch, which at that point would split it from it's roots in League (which may be a good or bad thing). I feel like LoR will be a strong competitor for Hearthstone (highly doubt it would be the new CCG king, given all the previous supposed Hearthstone "killers"), but unless they come up with a way to compete with Hearthstone's expansion system, the game will become stagnangt.
First of all there are only 24 Champs in the game right now out of 146 (with senna confirmed) so there are a few years before they reach the "no more champion space" apart from that they can easily use skins of champions as new cards as they did in tft, is pantheon a dragon? No but in his dragon slayer skin he could be, and there are around 1k skins in league so.. The design space in no problem.

I want to play SI the most I main jungle in league as well as support, and hecarim, Elise and thresh are among my favorite champions also it's a region which specializes on token spam which is kind of the warlock speciality (zoo) so I am going to start there with an elise/lalista deck probably or hecarim/kalista
It's cheap, ye but the brawl is just a bunch of bosses from the dungeon in normal mode while your deck is super charged from the beginning, there is really not much of a challenge or anything new anyway...
It's also for hearthstone, but it was stated from day 1 it would cover more games hope to get coverage of other games as well - gwent, shadowverse, eternal.. Etc.
The graph of heimerdinger can't be more wrong, the graph shows a rapid increase from 500 to 2000 while the function is capped both capped at 575 in the non negative side and is actually declining..
Just watched some Trumps videos about the game. seems a real contender. The economy will be decisive. And the timing of announcement as left many HS dissidents (consequence of the HK incident) excited for it. It has the brand, it has the looks, the hype the best mechanics from HS and MtG without the land system plus a new mana spell system. It has all the ingredients. It will live or die by the game's economy which at first glance seem very friendly too f2p.
I gotta be honest, after Artifact bombing hard and all games of this genre being a step or two behind HS i have some doubts about this one as well HOWEVER it does seem promising and we may be on the edge of a new digital TCG king.
Don't worry about the economy it's riot game(now riot games pog) we are talking about they tend to be very F2P friendly as league is.. if there are a lot of complains they will actually do something as opposed to blizzard..
Just so you know the game will be very f2p friendly. the riot business model is that core game play mechanics are mostly earned by playing and cosmetics are paid.
So if you like league or hs/magic the game seems very neat specially on the art side there is an intro every time a champion levels up and the game is both complex and simple as I seen it.
hope it succeeds both cause I want to play it and have fun and cause it will finally make bli$$ard make their game more f2p friendly and/or add more features that are not recycled..
cause the interaction between a smaller pool of cards is unknown yet there might be new stuff that people didn't tinker with in wild cause the card pool is so large..

1000 wins lazy portraits, they didn't even bother changing the voice lines at all, and some of them look terrible/uninspiring.
Also there are no animations to them or anything seems like they give no respect to their veteran play base..
