Theotar nerf did nothing. His effect is so powerful (and so necessary in so many of the matchups in the current meta) I see no reason not to run him. My opponent was also playing him in both games I played yesterday post-nerf. I'm sure some decks will cut him because of the mana cost, but this does nothing to curb that extra bad feeling of losing to your own win condition. They needed to alter his effect: make it more random, or change it to discard.
This is good to know - I was not aware that there were other versions of "Your Opponent". I wish I encountered them more myself. Like a couple others noted above, I also play PvP to get just one win a day (occasionally I'll go to three for the second chest). Fighting "Your Opponent" generally makes for an easy match.
Yes, old gods are super strong right now, and I haven't found anything that can consistently counter them. I guess we should just play old gods too and hope to win the coin flips.
Matchmaking is total garbage. I end up queing into the same person multiple times in a row, and if I don't, the wait is like 5-7 minutes. I had to face Mr. Awesome three times this morning, which is BS because A) he's at the top of the leaderboard, some 20,000 points above me, and B) he's just a fucking bot.
Botting is a huge problem in Mercs right now, and everyone knows it. If anyone knows a way to take advantage of them, I would love to hear it.
Yeah, I commented on this below (I got an Uther skin), but I thought it was just the usual BS. If it's not intended and we're supposed to get an actual Merc, that's quite exciting and I hope they fix it soon.
Any word on the max stats buffs? They are still missing, as far as I can tell.
What a bunch of BS. Why does Mercs not deserve a pity timer as well? And how can they pretend that getting a portrait for a Merc you already own is just as good as netting a new Merc? I just completed the C'Thun bounty: reward: a legendary Merc!!! Who did I get? F-king Uther.
I did finally get one of the new legendaries (Korrak) in pack #58. The only way I'm getting the other 3 at this point is if the upcoming coin exchange system doesn't totally suck (do we have any reason to hope for this?).
Have packs been fixed? I just opened my 56 saved Mercenaries packs, did not draw ONE SINGLE Legendary. Seriously Blizzard? No pity timer in Mercenaries, so 56 packs, NO legendary? Feels REAL bad. Got all the new rares and epics. No legendaries.
Now this one is definitely a bug: in Mercenaries, if Finley uses Fish Feast to kill something, you don't get the health buff.
Somewhat related: why does Murky get offered attack buff treasures in PvE when he can't attack? Sure, Murk-Eye (or Finley) can make him attack, but if you're not using them, those are useless options.
I agree! I mean, it makes sense, since the cards literally say "shuffle" into your deck, but it kind of makes those cards more powerful than they already are. I noticed this issue long ago after playing Lorekeeper Polkelt. He arranges your deck for you, then your opponent shuffles something in, and your plan is shot to pieces.
Here are a few interactions (per the title) I wanted to share and see what people think. Or you can add any similar interactions you've noticed.
I played Thrive in the Shadows with an opposing Far Watch Post on the board, and the card I discovered went up in mana. This seems wrong to me, as nowhere on the card does it say that I am "drawing" this card. Intended or bugged?
When a mage swaps spell costs with Barbaric Sorceress then plays a 1-cost Rune of the Archmage, the Grey Sage Parrot should not be able to recast that spell (my opinion). That spell originally cost 9, but when they played it, they only spent 1. Feels a little cheaty.
This last one is from Mercenaries, so feel free to skip (I know not nearly as many people play Mercs). I had Mr. Smite on board with Overboard activated. My opponent's Tidemistress Athissa cast Riptide on my Edwin. What ensued was a literally endless series of attacks, as every time Smite attacked, Athissa hit Edwin (who went WAY into negative health), causing Smite to strike again. He ended up clearing the entire enemy board, even killing Queen Azshara through her resurrection. Kinda feels like that shouldn't have happened.
The introduction of runestones makes me so glad I went F2P last year. This system just looks pointless and confusing. While the prices may be on par with previous ones, you can bet this will be a way for them to get more money from players eventually. Any layer between real money cost and actual product can easily serve to deceive the buyer.
Yes, if you want maximum combo disruption, use both and double them. But this thread is about whether Theotar is a healthy card for the game. I think he is too powerful at stopping big plays, and it feelsSObadman to lose to this.
Let me start by saying I enjoy combos: it's super fun to assemble your pieces, fend off the enemy, then administer the coup de grace. I also think that combo disruption is important for the game.
I think Mutanus the Devourer is a perfect and well-balanced combo disruptor: he can only hit minions (he can do nothing about a Purified Shard already in hand, a game-winning Bloodlust, or any hero card you care to mention), he is expensive, and he chooses a random target. Using Mutanus to stop an enemy combo requires a lot of luck, a lot of mana, and some decent hand-reading. And perhaps best of all, he was part of a mini-set, making him easier to collect than most other legendaries.
I hate Theotar, the Mad Duke. He is inexpensive, allows you to choose a target, can steal ANY card (not just minions), and worst of all, he allows your enemy to use your win condition against you.
I'll include my super salty story below here as a spoiler for anyone who cares to read it. Otherwise, feel free to respond to the opinions above. Agree? Disagree? Let's chat, friends.

I'm playing Quest Priest vs. Denathrius Druid. I'm working through my quest, answering my opponent's board, and just having a grand old time. I'm even putting on enough pressure that he has to play his Sire Denathrius early just to stay alive. Then he plays Zola the Gorgon to get a second Sire for later (he's Guff by now and has at least 13 mana). My response: Whirlpool, which honestly hurts my own board worse than his, but it gets rid of both of his Sires (one on board, one in hand). He has NO win condition. I complete my quest. He plays Theotar, the Mad Duke and ganks my Xyrella, the Sanctified, then plays it immediately. I did everything right, made the good plays, defeated his win condition, then lost to my own win condition because of one stupid card that didn't even require any skill or much luck to use.
Just want to see if anyone else has noticed this interaction, and if we think it is bugged or working as intended. My opponent played Solid Alibi, then I played Sire Denathrius which should have been lethal. Instead of taking the 30 or so damage that was heading face after enemy minions died, my opponent only took 1 damage. I expected Denathrius to work like the old C'Thun (shooting for 1 damage over and over until he ran out of "ammo"). This was not the case.
I see lots of decks on this list (and in my experience on ladder) running Sire Denathrius. Yet not a lot of Taelan Fording. Isn't this exactly what he is best at, drawing your big minion so it's in your hand while you sacrifice all your minions? What am I missing?
Yeah, my bad. I was playing on my phone, which I don't usually, and it looked different. Plus you get 5 coin drops for bounties, so I was thinking about that. Let's just delete this thread before too many people see what a doofus I am.
Hey mercheads! Just in case you didn't notice this already, the Acolyte of N'Zoth bounty in Darkshore now awards coins for Finley and C'Thun. I've been beating it on normal twice daily (for the Toki task) and netting coins for those two upcoming new mercenaries.
I'm also looking for help in PvP. Suddenly pirates are dominating the meta. The Patches/Vanessa/Smite synergy is absolutely insane. Does anyone have a good comp to suggest for beating them?

Personally, I have earned 24,491 of these useless internet points ... and I'm damn proud of it!
Yeah, this just happened to me this afternoon! Frustrating to be sure, but definitely within the rules. I wouldn't mind if they changed that, though.

Evolve Shaman for the win here!

As the title says: I just hit the rank 1000 floor and my reward chest had 3 coin drops instead of 5. What BS is this?
