  • I think the Demon Hunter class was overall very well-designed. The Outcast mechanic, the class identity of being attack-based, the synergy of its core cards that formed its identity...everything was well-designed and thought of, and some classes would kill to have core cards as great as DH (looking at you, Paladin).

The main problem was how overtuned and overpowered everything was. 5-mana Skull of Gul'dan, Priestess of Fury, Altruis the Outcast, 0-mana Eye Beam...basically every nerfed card used to be oppressive that they just terrorized the meta from the start. The class was too efficient and powerful, as compared to the other classes whose identity and power level kind of bogged down due to numerous expansion sets and a weak core set to begin with.

I'm interested for DH to have more control-based archetypes in the next expansion. In fact, it's already got great tools for a variety of archetypes, and I won't be surprised if the class gets terrible cards in the next expansion to prevent it from dominating again. That said, I'm still excited to see what direction they'll take the class in for the future.

My all-time favorite deck is Odd Taunt Warrior back in the Witchwood/Boomsday meta. I just loved the control style of it that doesn't rely on fatigue; it has a viable way for you to kill your opponent (Sulfuras). Armoring up and saving your removal tools for when you turn into Ragnaros so you can keep lobbing fireballs to your opponent's face is just sooooo satisfying.

I tried many iterations of this deck, my favorite being the beast package with Oondasta and Amani War Bears.

Hey, I used and loved that deck as well! I took it to wild after the quest rotated and played it casually there once in a while. To actually find a use for Oondasta was a big part of the pleasure. :)

Yeah, Oondasta was a good way to cheat out Baku the Mooneater, since she was always awkward to play lol

  • That's funny, I'm playing Odd DH in Wild again and I've run into nothing but control decks: Reno Priest, Reno Mage, whatever. They ALWAYS had Reno Jackson by turn 6 or 7.

Meanwhile, I switch to Tempo DH in Standard and I run into three straight Enrage/Control Warriors, who always managed to execute the Risky Skipper-Armorsmith combo just when they're in single-digit health.

Played 20 games with DH, just won 7 of them. Gaaaaaah I just wanna spam the class for 500 wins, I'm so close just let me have this goddammit

  • Whenever I'm about to deliver the killing blow to a Quest Mage or Secret Mage in Wild, I let the rope burn and hurl at least three threaten emotes at them, then I kill them right before the turn ends.

To anyone I do this to, please understand that it's not personal...I just hate your guts. Lol

  • Odd Demon Hunter in Wild is licking its lips right now...

Did you know that Evocation could generate Evocation? Well I didn't! And when a Quest Mage player did it on turn 4, with a Sorcerer's Apprentice on board, it was fucking disgusting! First they dropped the Apprentice for 2 mana, then they completed 7 out of 8 spells required for the quest with the two Evocations, FOR 0 MANA, and then finished with a Mana Cyclone! I was just sitting there, it was an absurd "WTF Blizzard, how is this possible" moment for me. Then the quest was finished on their next turn.

At least I lucked out too. With an almost perfect Secret Mage mulligan, and a lucky Duplicate, I was able to go face enough before they played their Time Warp. But with almost any other deck, it would have been unwinnable.

Blizz plz, give Evocation the Dragonqueen Alexstraza treatment.

I feel you, man. I had this game when I had a board full of Keleseth-buffed minions, and all my opponent had to do was play Flamewaker and Sorcerer's Apprentice into Evocation, and a couple of shenanigans later my entire board was wiped out and I took like 10 damage to the face as well. It's bullsh*t

  • Ancharrr is the safest craft, imo. Pirate Warrior is viable in standard AND wild right now, so you won't lack for avenues to use it. When it rotates, you can still play with it in wild since Pirate Warrior never really dies.

Then craft Grommash Hellscream, not only because it's classic, but because there's nothing sweeter than a Grommash lethal.

  • I used to insult back those who add me just to flame me. One time this guy added me after I beat him with an Odd Warrior I think, he called me a f*g, then I told him it takes one to know one, then I just chuckled as he kept hurling insults at me. Not very mature, I know, but I've since just stopped adding those who send me a request after I beat them rather luckily.

  • Vicious Syndicate is the way to go, those guys really know their stuff. Their suggested builds for meta decks are very effective as well.

I really don't trust HS Replay, their meta picture isn't very accurate. For example, it ranks Murloc Paladin as a Tier 1 deck when in reality it's close to Tier 3.

Probably playing when tilted is one of the worst things you can do.  Best to take a break, walk, listen to music for a bit when that happens :)

Wherever you finish, if you can get to D4, have the right attitude and enough play time, Legend is inevitable whether this season or another.

    Good luck!!!

This is the most important advice you need to hear. When you're on a losing streak, it helps to take a break then get back to it after you've calmed down. When I was one win away from Wild legend only to lose to a Secret Mage, I turned the game off and didn't touch it for a few days, then eventually reached legend when I played again. That's a pretty extreme example, but you get the idea :P

Congrats! What is the decklist you used?

I only crafted Loatheb when I reached Rank 1, after I felt like I could reach legend with this list. Initially I was running a more aggressive list that didn't have Priestess of Fury, with Blazing Battlemage, Leeroy Jenkins, and even Zilliax which the deck didn't need. I even teched in Chief Inspector to counter Mages, but they often sat as dead cards. I currently have a 67% win rate with this

  • That feeling when you go on a 10-game winning streak to end the day, waylaying and massacring Mages and Priests along the way. Feelsgoodman

*You mean Odd Demon Hunter was piloting you.

Congratulations nonetheless! I't always great news to hear someone that has played for a few years and finally got to legend.

Thanks mate! Won't really argue with you on the deck being kind of autopilot; I spent most of today playing and I went 45-15, reached up to Top 820. The deck is insane.

I wish I had more days at legend, but it's back to the bottom tomorrow lol

  • I finally hit legend! I've been playing mostly Standard since 2017, so it's kind of funny that I reached Wild legend first lol.

It wasn't that stressful of a climb, with the only obstacles being the three straight Secret Mages I lost to whenever I was just one win away (I swear, the Mage class exists just to make my life miserable lol). I was piloting Odd Demon Hunter, an absolutely overpowered deck that I feel a little guilty for reaching legend with it. But hey, legend is legend!

Time to kick back and enjoy being a legend player for one day, since it's gonna be a new season tomorrow. Just wanted to share, and good luck to everyone else on their climb!

  • I absolutely despise Quest Mage in all its forms. I don't like its gameplan of stalling and freezing every minion then delaying death with Ice Block until it can finish the quest and steal a win they didn't earn one bit. Its uninteractive, unfair, and unpleasant to lose against, and I really believe it should've been nerfed to 10 spells, not 8. It's honestly a coward's deck.

Whenever I manage to beat any Quest Mage, I hurl numerous "Threaten" emotes at them, sometimes even sending a friend request so I could insult them for playing it. That's how much I hate that archetype.

  • Ugggghhhh I was one win away from Wild legend only to lose to a Secret Mage, a deck I had been massacring up to that point. Close fight too; I got my opponent down to 3 health but I just ran out of steam, and if only I got my 1-drops early on and didn't draw badly, I would've won. Now I've lost two straight and I need to regroup and recover. So close!

  • Well, I guess I was a day early when I posted in the salt thread about Priestess of Fury possibly being nerfed lol.

I'm overjoyed by this new round of nerfs and buffs because it's gonna make me dust-rich! It's been my habit to dust extra copies of cards while only keeping multiple copies of those that I think will be problematic and might get nerfed in the future. For this expansion, I've stockpiled the following:

Priestess of Fury - 6 extra copies

Blackjack Stunner - 5 copies (with 2 golden, enough for a new legendary!)

    Bloodboil Brute - 1 copy

    Scavenger's Ingenuity - 3 copies

Shadowjeweler Hanar - undecided whether to dust this or not, since Secret Rogue isn't agreeing with me...

That's a total of 2,900 dust (4,500 if I dust Hanar). This is probably the first time I'm gonna benefit this much from a round of nerfs. My selective hoarding finally paid off!

  • This isn't really a salt post since I'm spamming Demon Hunter (halfway to 500 wins now!), but is Blizzard ever gonna nerf Priestess of Fury? Playing Raging Felscreamer then Priestess on turn 5 is often a game-ending play. Only a few decks can handle a turn 5 Priestess, then there's the scary possibility that you'll drop another one on turn 7, which is downright devastating for your opponent.

For the record I'm still expecting it to be nerfed (either this or Raging Felscreamer), and a small part of me is hoping that it does happen because I've saved up 10 copies of it just in case :P

  • Lucentbark for me! There was a time when I could fuck around in standard with it, copying it multiple times and giving my opponents fits (still a horrible win rate, but at least I won some games). However, that all changed when Plague of Death and The Amazing Reno attacked...

Chameleos has a soft spot in my heart too. I loved stealing quest rewards with it back in the day (Sulfuras in Priest???).
