I haven't been keeping track as I was playing mostly on mobile yesterday but I started off the year playing my Tiny Toys Evolve Shaman in Wild and I'm pretty sure I won at least 2 of the first 3. Maybe all three... Can't remember. I also played some Classic Face Hunter just because, won several games with that. Then started playing a Standard hybrid DH deck with Fel spells and big demons to try and satisfy the "Deal 100 Fel Damage" quest. Just threw the list together in two minutes without thinking too much about it, and won a 2 of the first three games with that too!
Again, not keeping track of what I'm playing against, but definitely not seeing the same old decks as before. Wild is still riddled with QL Warrior and QL Hunter, but it's Wild so I unfortunately expect them to take their time making changes there. Classic is of course Classic, nothing is going to change there, and then Standard seems fine to me if I'm being honest.
Are some of the decks that were strong before still strong? Yes. Are there still things that could be better? Probably. Did I start my Wild climb this month with an off meta Shaman deck, and my Standard climb this month with a hybrid of two different Tier 3 DH decks that is so unoptimized I should be losing left and right?! Yes! And again, I won most of the games I played so far at the bottom of both monthly ladders.
Once the team returns from holiday break, which I assume is tomorrow(?), then I'm sure they'll be looking at more potential card changes and evaluating nerfs and buffs to affect both Standard and Wild. At least I hope they will look at Wild too...
Could be talking about the Dollmaster Dorian + Plot Twist, Bloodbloom + Cataclysm combo. I think the Bloom nerf killed that.
At launch of Barrens a list similar to this one that ran Hemet could win by turn 8 if you had the Coin and got lucky draws. Same idea: 0 mana minion, Shadow Hunter to swap with the only other minion in your hand, Mecha’thun, and then Cataclysm. 9 mana total for the combo turn. Just had to make sure you didn’t play Hemet until after you draw a 0 mana minion.
When the expansion launched and the OwlTK became a thing I used that package for some Maly Lock hijinks. I thought while playing my Malygos list, “This package could easily be used for some Mecha’thun BS!” I never tried it but obviously many others had the same thought as the Mecha’thun Warlocks started popping up quickly while the Owl was suddenly nowhere to found in Wild.
As you already kind of eluded to, they are in their end of year break where the whole company takes a few weeks off. So not much will be done about it until maybe next week at the earliest. It does seem odd that they couldn't get the fixes in before the break since the expansion released 12/7, however, I do believe they had some other bugs they probably focused on first. Then I'm guessing they focused on deciding balance changes to push out after Worlds. I understand that being priority as if they waited until January to do any balance changes people would have been super pissed! So maybe that took all their time prior to the end of the year break?
The one that has to be really annoying is for people playing a lot of Paladin with the Cariel hero card. Most of them have probably actually hit their achievement goal of damage prevented by the turtle shell and it shows no progress at all.
That's odd. It worked for me back when I played the deck to get it. In fact I got it very fast playing this deck. Hopefully they are aware of it and get that fixed ASAP.
Thanks as always for the highlight! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!
For anyone trying the Korrak deck, mulligan hard for Sketchy Information and the Necrium Blades and/or Cavern Shinyfinder.
Because Sketchy can pull the Blades you may want to swap them for Counterfeit Blades instead. Maybe one of them at least. Necrium is a good Sketchy pull though when you have a Korrak or more on board already though. And Necrium breaking with Snowfall Graveyard in play can generate 4 additional Korraks.
I've tried them both out in a few things. Roffle had a Secret Hunter list with Drek'thar to pull out Gossipers and Cloaked Huntresses. Using that and Dane's Big Deathrattle Rogue list I completed the objectives achievement, as well as the Snowfall Graveyard achievement and the Hunter secrets achievement for this expansion.
I thought it was just me but I had noticed an oddly high number of Alliance opponents over the last several weeks. Can Alliance actually be winning this thing?
I swear Wildfire used to persist and got silently nerfed a while back. When it first came out I tested it with Frostlich Jaina and it carried over. Guessing they originally didn’t intend it to do that but I’m glad it’s back to doing so.
Swizard has been a very active member in the community, posting many of the Wild decks on here and even creating site content such as the “Wildest Wednesdays” articles going into depth on a single Wild deck.
In this case, an announcement like this is not only okay but almost necessary! I personally will miss his presence here.
Thanks! I'm off to a 7-0 start though so I might hold off for now! I was actually just thinking the same exact package of draw, survival, and discounts could be used to pull off an even more meme-worthy combo involving Treachery and Soulbound Ashtongue. Stuff like Librarian and Backfire are already great for buffing up Lesser Amethyst Spellstone, which can get up to 112 damage if you can copy two [Hearthstone Card (Mo'arg Artificers) Not Found] for a total of four. After reductions play the Ashtongue, give it to the opponent, play all the Mo'args, Spellstone the Ashtongue to make your opponent go boom! And you heal to full! So that is nice!
While I appreciate the inclusion, my Egg Warrior list deck guide actually says about my list “don’t play it.”
I was just trying to think of ideas for Reflecto Engineer and the two that came to me are eggs and Linecracker Warrior combo’d with Charge and Inner Rage, and a second IR for the 30+ OTK hit.
Anyone thinking of trying that list, do so at your own peril!
Yeah. I only ever add for things like that, or maybe to see if they’ll share a full deck list because they were playing something interesting and fun. But same thing, no one usually accepts. It’s for those rare moments I usually do accept them. But I can also just brush off the abuse, even in instances that I end up reporting. Only when I myself am in a bad mood do I ignore to avoid getting pulled into their BS.
90% of the time I play a deck with Frizz I draw her after drawing the dragons I want to discount!
If she was printed today, I wonder if her effect would discount dragons in your deck AND hand?!
Odd Mage?! Cool deck!
Now, on to the more important thing here… Welcome back, Swizard!

Bloodsail Deckhand is Core Set, right? So there is no refund or DE'ing that one.

Hello, 2021! This deck still works!
Used Drek’thar in a Secret Hunter list, but that’s it. Also I’m in the final stage of the Honor gain so I guess DE himwhile I have the chance, right?

I mean, I definitely took Vanndar for the higher combo potential in Wild.

Calling it "wonky" is being generous! :)
