Real question - How do you expect to get all the legendary mercs? I hope to be mostly f2p, but I can't figure that out
Slowly over time, and not through money. Not sure I care about the actual FULL collection but over a long enough period I could get them all I'm sure. Likely following what dapperdog said in his reply if I need to grind a specific Merc, but seeing as how I'm planning on playing the mode casually for a break from constructed if I don't actually get a 100% full and completed roster that's okay.
It’s unfortunate that a mode with such initial intrigue and promise has been such a debacle out of the gate. I’m not quitting the mode by any means, and will continue to grind slowly towards a full collection. But the $5 welcome pack I bought is the only real money I’ll be putting into the mode. And whatever gold I sunk into upgrade buildings and buy a few packs is also the only gold I’m putting into it as well.
I purposefully avoided temptation on Mercs pre-orders to see if it would be worthwhile before spending, afraid of a situation like this happening. I also figured that regardless of it was good or bad that Standard and Wild would still be my main drivers for playing the game so no need putting resources elsewhere.
In Standard this card might be a thing. In Wild... I'm not sure. Wild Big Priest decks do have a lot of big deathrattle taunts that they play, and some have big heals, big armor gains, or heal and remove an enemy on death. If this card can trade up to 7 deathrattle minions you easily trade this to find the other cards you want earlier in the game, and save this 3 mana card for the late game when you need to get that last refill for 7 Mo'arg Forgefiends, or Obsidian Statues, or in a more fun Rez Priest world, a board full of Stalaggs and Feugens.
The question as always for things like this is will the meta be slow enough to get enough value? How much value you need out of the card might be determined by the match ups too.
If you play it right after Shudderwock it would be a second Shudderwock. If it's in the Shudderwock pool... there are likely a few scenarios.
First, the "latest battlecry" is likely the last battlecry to play out to completion. So if it's in the Shudderwock battlecry pool and you are playing your first Shudderwock (or at least didn't just play a Shudderwock prior to the one you are playing) it'd likely play the most recent battlecry prior to Shudderwock. This would be because the Shudderwock battlecry hasn't finished and would likely not be the "latest battelcry" until it does finish.
(That was a jumbled mess... so for a visual representation let's say your last four battlecries are, in order, Macaw>Lifedrinker>Grumble>Shudderwock ... if your last four battlecry cards looked like this, the Macaw trigger in Shudderwock would likely trigger Grumble's effect since Shudderwock's battlecry is not yet finished, and therefore not the "latest battlecry")
If you play a Shudderwock that bounces back, and then play it again, I imagine Macaw would basically make it so Shudderwock triggers twice, but it's a Shudder in a Shudder. A type of Shudder-ception if you will!
I guess with the uniqueness of the Mercs matchmaking system it would make it easier to do something like that too. You each form a similar team that is not a power range you'd typically see and then hope to queue into each other.
One and done with Paladin. Call to Arms helped loaded my side up, eventually got all the Dreadsteads on my side. I was also rotating right so the Dudes then kept thrm their, and got to have a 7 to 1 minion advantage.
Is it bad that the #1 thing I want fixed right now is the Shop?! Every time I log in it has the little red ! as if there is something new and it's the same stuff I've clicked on multiple times to get rid of the "New" notification. Even UiS packs keep showing up as "New"! This is of course a minor issue and by no means impacting the playability of the game, but it's just how I am. These small things drive me nuts!
Conspiracy theory: It's not a bug, they are just trying to trick me into buying stuff! Not going to work on me, Blizzard! I am smurt!
So was this actual win trading occurring or were players just recognizing they are beat and conceding early in a match? Based on what the comments in this article are saying it's the latter.
This OG Paladin quest is a quest that I always kind of wanted but have never had! But glad to know someone is out there role playing as John Hammond with the quest!
My guess is that these Mercs were maybe in the internal beta testing but ultimately cut. Many or all of them could be introduced at a later time, but would likely be altered from what they were whenever they were data mined. So for now they are just some cool art and possibly things to look forward to in the future
Thanks for the spotlight! Some additional findings regarding the Big Warrior list, in aggro match ups Barricade early is huge! Mulligan for that and some additional cheap removal.
The deck is fun, but lives and dies based on that early control.
Depending on how Tamsin's story ends with the Book of Mercenaries (her book is complete, but her story could likely continue through a few of the other books still to release) they could do a Naxx expansion where she is trying to take control of Naxx from her former headmaster, Kel'Thuzad! Could be a fun and interesting jumping off point for a set.
I think they did it because 1) the matchmaking is so specific in trying to make “fair” match-ups and 2) they may not have been sure of how well received the mode would be. Specifically the PvP portion. On launch I had quick matchmaking and clearly was against a real opponent. Last night, one day post launch, all but maybe one PvP match took forever to find an opponent and were likely AI.
I’ve been having fun with it, but honestly not sure how much lasting power it’ll have with me beyond a certain point. Will need to see what kind of updates Mercs gets down the road.
I went really simple with Leper Gnome, Sandtrooper, Loot Hoarder, and Power Word: Shield. It worked well enough.
Draw cards for reload, deathrattle damage for more SMOrc. If you face someone without removal (or refusing to remove like the Ignite guy I fought) you just build a board and smash their face.
Super simple list. The one class card could be replaced with anything else to do the same on other classes.
I don't buy the bundles. I'll level up what I get as (Mercenaries-)f2p.
Pretty much my thoughts. I keep debating back and forth if I should get a bundle, but if I do it'll be Sylvanas. However the one I really want is Lich King (I mean, the way he swings that sword and points it at me! It's like he's saying "Thonson! Spend your fucking money!!!")
I will see what I get and what synergies I can put together. If I really want/need a Merc I'll find the bounty I need to grind to get them and go from there. Ultimately I will want to save as much of my gold as I can for the main mode. But will likely keep some gold to get a handful of Mercs packs every expansion cycle if I end up liking the mode.
Honestly, the only time I've been like "I must get Legend" was when I got close unintentionally and figured I may as well make the push. Especially after the first time and getting the card back. Also to get the free Legendary for reaching the mark after the revamp. Other than that, I live by this philosophy as well. It's how I am able to spend my time playing Even Totem Shaman in Wild, Hero Power Mage in Standard (which, the Tempo based version I've got right now... getting some surprising wins!), among other stuff. I keep trying Metamorphosis OTK in Wild for DH, but it's just too slow! The DH QL could MAYBE get you there, but the issue is the format itself is too fast for a combo like that. Same with a Malygos Warlock! Takes too much set up.
But yeah, I just get that minimum rank into the Diamond 10, maybe D5, and then play what I want and try out weird and wacky shit for kicks.
where dumpster legend was always a safe place for off-meta, I meet way too many of the linear try-hard decks now (hyper aggro, quest mages etc.). There is very little space for my personal preferred playstyle atm.
Potential solution would be to quick rank up to Diamond 10/5, then play whatever you want, and if you want Legend make the push in the last week/days of the month with meta decks again.
A lot of the Wild streamers especially often stay in the Diamond ranks if they can because it allows them to get some good highlight wins with off meta stuff for their YouTube channels. Roffle specifically was Diamond his last stream of September, then his first sign in on stream in October it showed he achieved Legend rank because he grinded some meta deck off stream. Might seem tedious, but could be the solution to not getting completely burnt out on the game in the long run.

Hurray! Everyone's favorite archetype... Rez Priest... ... ... (*internal screams* Oh fuck!)

Have always liked this quest. Definitely need to give this a go when I get the chance!

At least this time around my first game, opponent must have had no early game because the left! EZ pack!

Slotted Noz in for Deathwing the 3rd in my Wild Big Warrior. Less stats, less useful, but still big enough to fit the theme. And it got me my xp!
