Following the condensed reveal schedule for Hearthstone Mercenaries, it was Grumpi's turn to showcase four new characters arriving to the game mode on September 27, along with the entire Maw and Disorder Mini-Set. At least three of these also happen to be major players within the larger Warcraft universe, so you might already be well familiar with their names and lore!
In case you've missed it, we also talked about the recent development update, and two other new Mercs (Nemsy and Neeru)!
Four New Mercenaries
Two famous Humans, one infamous Demon, and a certain overgrown Troll. Rather heavy on the Casters here. Only Epics and Legendaries in this case, so you are going to need some luck with your Mercenaries pack openings.
Fair word of warning - as Blizzard's Team 5 has unfortunately dropped the ball in this case and hasn't shared any convenient resources with the community, we don't have a simple good source that would display all abilities and equipment at a glance. All we got is a fairly long reveal video, and transcribing everything would take a lot of time (which is not a very appealing prospect with the patch notes coming later).
It's also worth noting that specifically Medivh has been datamined over a year ago (even before the launch of the game mode) and sitting in our database ever since, but of course his abilities and equipment (or even role) are nowhere near the same now. It's been quite the wait!
Grumpi's Reveal Video
The audio is largely in German, but you will still find all English descriptions for relevant abilities and equipment pieces scattered throughout the following 38 minutes. Let it run as is (it always helps content creators if you can do that, even if it's in the background), or fast forward through at your convenience to see whatever piques your interest the most.
Any of these imminent arrivals stand out to you as a potential new favorite Mercenary?
Comments
Medivh is the first character to have a summoning ability that isn't triggered by another effect (e.g., an attack or direct damage effect) that isn't simply the character card for the summoned creature. This could have been an opportunity to give the ability a spell school, but they didn't take it.
I'm trying to figure out how Unstable Runes (Medivh equipment -- summon a 0/10 Arcane Ward with "counter the first ability used each turn") is fair. It can only be that it also cancels friendly effects, forcing you to take slow moves to avoid cancellation.
Lol, did I accidentally deleted my main comment? For reference: I was upset that they brought Rafaam back, but neither released a skin for him, nor did he become a merc (even though his silhouette was part of the Merc reveal trailer from over a year ago),
I was wondering about that. ;) It certainly wasn't us!
I dont think the merc reveal is over, they hinted at 14 mercs coming out in this mini set, I think it makes sense for Rafaam to be included this patch since we got the explorers recently, I predict there will be others from Castle Nathria like Renathal, Denathrius, KaelThas, KelThuzad and maybe the Jailer. we'll see
That's 14
They might be underestimating how much ppl like that character. But also expansions are locked in almost a year prior their release, so who knows what they had on their minds then.
