SquirrelChads keep dominating.
Dang they push token druid literally every expansion.
Cancer Meta Forever
Blizz has been stingy with meta-viable cheap taunts; if they keep that up, Unending Swarm might be stranded for non-aggro decks and nevertheless too slow for aggro.
It's amazing that themes that are very abstract but mechanically super-strong -- mana gain -- are conserved but themes that are utterly narrow and linked to class identity can be handed out like popcorn -- ressurection.
I'm guessing that Lingering Zombie is a series of 3 1/1s (each illustrated with fewer limbs). Oddly enough, this is a bad candidate for Unending Swarm imo since its secondary and teritary spawns could eat up a summon slot.
Mana gain for other classes have been explored before, like Lightning Bloom and Escaped Manasaber but as most would predict it, they just dont work all that well for classes that wasn't specifically designed to work with it. Druid (much to my displeasure) tend to be designed with plenty of excellent late game strats, which incentives consistent mana growth, something that other classes tend to lack.
We can also argue that this has been explored in other classes indirectly via the concept of mana cheating, which often become problematic in the same way.
Mana ramp is one of those things that needs delicate balancing, and I dont think we need it being introduced in other classes.
I predicted on day one that Lightning Bloom would juice Druid and not be as good for Shaman precisely because Overload is treated as a "feature" in Shaman and not a penalty (which it really is).
My point wasn't that ramp should be expanded, but that the HS team's ostensible logic on themes is pretty blinkered. Do recall a year or two back they maintained, for awhile, that mere card draw was part of "theme" and that Priests' theme was casino discover effects, even though neither notion had sufficent support and the Priest lack of card draw was so severe that they publicly walked that one back.
I'd love it if ramp, as it's conceived currently, were nuked from orbit. Being able to exceed 10 mana is beyond what used to be called "ramp" and represents a completely new and uneeded problem.
You forgot to mention that none of what was revealed has a chance of seeing meta play considering what druid has going on right now.
Support for aggro druid, and seems like team5 is doubling down on the hordes of undead thing with druid. But Im still not entirely convinced because there's just so many non-undead cards you'd run in aggro druid, which is why I feel there's a possibility that aggro druid will simply exist without Elder Nadox or Wither, good cards they may be.
Still the second half of druid yet unrevealed. And man I sure hope there isn't any 4/6 taunts being cheated out for zero mana being printed in this expansion.
A member of our Discord made a point I didn't even think of: Unending Swarm could resurrect your Whelps from Scale of Onyxia, essentially gaining two more copies of that card...at least, until rotation.
Edit: Whelp, didn't notice you had the same thought in the card's discussion thread :P
Druid with ressurection? Damn, they're really getting everything Lol
