Big beast hunter continues to dominate the meta
Haven't played hearthstone in a while (blame Marvel Snap) but holy fuck, Groovy Cat and Spread the Word will skyrocket even druid from niche to at least high tier 3. I can't overstate just how insane these two cards are in that deck. You can even (hehe) tutor Groovy Cat with Living Seed (Rank 1).
Guess I'm going back in again oh darkness my old friend.
Warrior, standing outside Free Spirit's house, letting their tears be washed away by the rain.
Lol, so team5 decided with their infinite wisdom to push druid towards hp this expansion. And also in typical druid fashion, sought to make the thing as hideously powerful (or perfectly useless) as possible.
The two primary cards, Free Spirit and Groovy Cat both add 2 attack and armor each, making it a whooping 4 per game (assuming you cant discover/generate more). That means at some point druid is basically an amped up Bloodreaver Gul'dan.
So what could go wrong? Well, firstly this kind of gameplay gets completely walled by taunts, and secondly its slow as hell. Most druids do tend to be slow like that, but imagine building your entire deck around this and then only drawing two out of the four for the first 6 turns. Most aggro decks would already have won by then and midrange decks would be halfway through. The comparison with odd warrior and hp mage is obvious but also inaccurate; both these archetypes can stall and have no problems dealing with board. Druids on the other hand, dont have the same advantage.
Druids are facing a tough time because rotation hurts them far more than any other class. Unless the second druid legendary brings up a whole new wincon it'll need all the help it can get from this hp archetype.
Free Spirit is a rather neat card, for slower druid decks the more valuable part of their hero power is the armor gain and this increases it. I think this would take the slot of Armor Vendor in slower druid decks but maybe this is to slow. In attack druid decks like the now rotating Lost in the Park druid this does help the survivability. In wild unless I’m missing something this card conflicts with Oaken Summons In non-odd variants of ql druid. Though maybe odd variants might like it. Also this can be tutored rather easily with Peaceful Piper.
Groovy Cat Is also neat. The attack is of course more valuable for the aggressive decks and this works nicely with Spread the Word. Maybe a control deck will make use of this like Wildfire in mage except with 50% more damage off just one of these. In wild this has to overcome the hurdle that is being worth running over Oaken Summons in ql druid. I don’t think it’s quite good enough for that, but maybe. Also this can be tutored with Peaceful Piper.
Spread the Word - If there is a druid deck that gains a bunch of attack this is an obvious inclusion.
Zok Fogsnout - why on earth does he say this turn? If Unless I’m missing something he really sucks. Maybe he’d be good if it was last turn, but right now I don’t see him finding a place anywhere
Also Anub'Rekhan
This turn because of the armor and attack buff guys
I love Rarran's passive-aggressiveness.
Like he just knows this shit is going to be obnoxious to play against and doesn't even bother to hype it up beyond "yep, Druid is Hero Power Mage mixed with Odd Warrior now, good fucking luck"
rarran sucks he banned the word tickatus in his stream because of his ego
I still think any decent deck that plays for board will destroy this hp druid any day.
This is near pre-nerfed kingsbane rogue level of obnoxious, but like that deck its only ever going to win if it draws the nuts or against control decks. All other decks will likely just roll over them.
Yeah, I get that druid's hp has always been the worst of the many that deal 1 damage, but that doesn't justify putting double upgrades onto 1- and 2-cost minions. There are going to be so many games where they have both early on and there's very little a lot of decks can do about it. Ping mage was already frustrating for that reason.
Add Unending Swarm in there for some real funny stuff.
+15/+15 on each Hero POwer is possible now.
Good luck to anyone trying to make a different lategame strategy possible
Even worse, if they use no other beasts, they can easily tutor these guys with Peaceful Piper. So there will be very few games where their hp doesn't become a problem very early on. Wasn't the reliability of hero powers from the get-go the entire reason Genn and Baku rotated early? And I'm pretty sure the non-existent deck limitation here is a bit less than what those two enforced.
Ok now THIS is an interesting package of cards for Wild! The armor + attack gain for Druid is incredible, plus the draw on top...umpfh, can't wait to try that out in Questline Druid. I do have the inkling this stuff is gonna get nerfed from orbit for the sake of Standard though, it seems incredibly unfun to play against. The Hunter stuff seems fun but Hunter doesn't have good enough ways to cheat or discount mana to be able to set up like a big beast Recruit package finishing with a Stranglethorn Heart, kinda like an imitation of Anyfin OTK Pally. Maybe someday.
Looks like Swizard's Even Druid just got a BIG upgrade!
MC Blingtron Is an interesting card. Giving your opponent a lesser Cursed Blade probably enables some sort of shenanigans but otherwise is just a Field of Strife/Voidtouched Attendant. Also there’s a rather large amount of weapons being played right now between Harpoon Gun, the wildseed package, and whatever dh decides to smack you with this expansion. On one hand means this doubles as a weapon tech and on the other hand means a decent number of opponents have ways of getting rid of their weapon. Honestly I’m not sure where this sees play anyways.
Dissonant Hip Hop is a decent spell for rogue decks that have weapons to buff (not sure what it’d be right now though, maybe Swordfish). Both variants are pretty good spells. Also this is a shadow spell for some reason, Shadow Rogue when?
Mic Drop seems like a decent spell, but I don’t think rogue wants this. I don’t think they’re looking for a slightly better Arcane Intellect assuming they are willing to play for the finale. Maybe if pirate rogue or maybe some weapon rogue resurfaces this makes the cut. Right now though rogue just doesn’t seem to care about weapons right now and already has a decent amount of card draw.
Conversely, every class that can replace Blingtron's microphone is also a target for their weapon to be replaced by the mic. So I think that side will balance out somewhat. I know Cariel is rotating out, but I'm smiling at the idea of Blingtron shimmying up to her and swapping out The Immovable Object with a broken mic.
It will be interesting to see what rogue can do with its own Voidtouched Attendant. Rogue's probably a lot less feast-or-famine with it than priest is.
I dont know how, but in stark contrast to other classes team5 never seem to be able to muck up rogue.
Looks like solid effort is being made for pirate rogue to take a resurgence. Imagine Swordfish getting all these buffs. Vipers might actually be mandatory. Out of all the classes rogue's new cards seems the least jank. Just draw cards, do more damage, or bounce lots of cards to do more damage. Whatever could go wrong?
On the other hand, hunter seems to have gained support for big beasts, but since most if not all the relevant ones (The Rat King, Mountain Bear, etc.) are rotating, what are we supposed to even bring up aside from Mister Mukla and King Krush? There has to be some midrange beast that's worth playing without synergy to make it all work, or its back to spitter and hydralodons again.
Mister Mukla seems like a really insane card though.
