The first Hearthstone expansion of 2020 is Ashes of Outland! You can learn more about the expansion, including seeing all the revealed cards, in our dedicated Ashes of Outland Expansion Guide!
Polygon has leaked the new expansion! Wow, what idiots!! The article that was leaked has since been removed.
Here is everything we know so far about Ashes of Outland. (Polygon referred to the expansion as Ashes of Outlands which makes no sense since its Outland and not Outlands)
- The expansion launches April 7.
- Demon Hunter is a new class and we've got 20 cards to showcase.
- Priests are getting an overhaul.
- Outcast, the new Demon Hunter Keyword gives the card a bonus if it is cast while being the right-most or left-most card in your hand.
New Legendary Card - Kael'thas Sunstrider
Quote From Polygon The first piece of Ashes of Outlands will drop on Tuesday, March 17. Players can log in and receive the Legendary card Kael’thas Sunstrider. When Kael’thas is on the board, the third spell cast every turn is free.
New Class: Demon Hunter
Hearthstone is getting a new class - The Demon Hunter! Illidan Stormrage is finally getting his time in the spotlight.
- Hero Power: Demon Claws, a 1-Mana ability that grants 1 Attack
Quote From Chadd Nervig [Demon Hunters] don’t have much in the way of card generation, but you can run them out of resources,” says Chadd Nervig, game designer on Hearthstone. “They have card draw, but not generation, so you can fatigue them. They’re susceptible to hard removal. They also just don’t have much in the way of hard removal themselves; if they want to clear a big minion of yours, they have to use their face to do it. They don’t have any assassinate or polymorph cards.
Demon Hunter Cards
These are all the cards revealed so far for the Demon Hunter class.
Basic Demon Hunter Cards
Ashes of Outland Demon Hunter Cards
Demon Hunter Tokens
Priest Overhaul
Priests are getting an overhaul!
Quote From Chadd Nervig There were aspects of their basic and classic sets that we weren’t planning to support, so they were sort of misleading Priests and taking up space, Things like Prophet Velen, which is an iconic Legendary for Priests, sounded really cool … but really was only used for [one-turn kill strategies], which we weren’t planning to support. These cards are now in the Hall of Fame, and can be used in the game’s Wild mode.
Comments
I assume that any of the new Priest cards on there will replace one of the existing Basic/Classic cards.
Excluding Velen, which was already confirmed through the post and Natalie that makes 5 cards (2 Basic, 3 Classic), which I assume will be:
Basic: Divine Spirit, Northshire Cleric
Classic: Inner Fire, [Hearthstone Card (Mind Games) Not Found] (because it's utterly useless), and either Mass Dispel (because it's kind of unfair, but without Divine Spirit, who really knows) or Shadowform (no real reason, but it doesn't really seem to fit the direction they're going with)
IN any case it looks like they're going to cut actual draw from Priest in favour of Random Generation....let's see how that pans out. Either way we get yet another 0-cost spell for Auctioneer shenanigans
Ah. The new class gets a taunt minion before Rogue does. Typical.
At some point will get an entire expansion of taunts just to make up for it...and then another one for healing. By that time we'll probably also have infinite deck slots and tournament mode.
I hope rogue never gets a taunt minion. It's the class of slipping in and out of the shadows and using subtle, underhanded tactics: you're doing something wrong as a rogue if you're drawing your foe's attention. Even the pirate side of the class wants to get away with the loot, not stand there waiting to get attacked.
i mean, with that argument you could easily design a "Decoy" card that's just a crudely constructed scarecrow of sorts that diverts attention. Rogue has gotten less fitting cards in the past
True, I could picture something like Target Dummy as a rogue card, maybe with a deathrattle as a trap of some sort. But if people want a proper taunt minion with real defensive presence then I think they're just playing the wrong class to begin with.
I'm not sure about a 1-Cost Hero Power. Also the Demon Hunter class in a far far future when Stardard rotates is going to be an exclusive Wild class (with only an Standard cycle of card support)? At least we can expect new classes coming next years.
Also incredible rework on the Priest. I like it and I hope they find their new class style because res is not that fun to play against.
I think DH is here to stay. Probably adding their own Classic/Basic set, and they'll be included in all future sets. Most likely forgoing past sets.
they most certainly wouldn't retroactively print cards for entire wild sets.
Will probably make DH weaker than other classes since they'll have the least amount of cards at the start of every rotation
Priest should be deleted from the game, not buffed. Evey meta that priest is viable in has been the worst meta. Unless all the other classes are also being reworked, I know what game I am never playing again until the devs realize how they screwed up
This all sounds super interesting, but I can't help but wonder what is being sent to the hall of fame for priest and more importantly, the stat line of Kael'thas. He can lead to so many fun decks and I want to just start playing it, assuming his mana cost isn't awful.
Notice that Demon Hunter "classic" cards have different watermark.
Expansion symbol =)
Does that mean these cards will rotate? Or maybe Demon Hunter will rotate? :P
Also Btw Question is Outcast a Demon Hunter mechanic or the New Expansions mechanic
Outcast would fit as the DH mechanic. Illidan is practically the embodiment of an outcast.
It should be the DH mechanic; it seems like Prime Heroes (lvl-upped heroes from Runeterra?) and Imprisoned Demons (like Violet Hold Prisoners from Rise of Shadows solo content) are the expansion mechanics.
Wait, do we lose cards like Northshire Cleric and Shadow Word: Pain as well?
Also, what is "Outcast"?
Most likely they are going to be rotated to wild via Hall of Fame. There are still some cards that are going to stay apart of the basic collection though.
As for Outcast,
I think Outcast means: most left or most right card in your hand.
