The first part though... I was certain that it had to do with dragons, now I know it doesn't.

Well, Silverleaf Poison comes to mind, just for having poison in the name and the detail about trees are the leaves.

Washington and Ivy sold it for me, the Lorien part kept me thinking about elves and dragons, should have thought about the silver/grey forest, really nice mishmash of universes!

There is some backstory about these cards?

Peons are the classic worker units from Warcraft that built the outposts. It's ironic that they generate random spells and not "frenzy: give all outposts +1/+1 wherever they are" or something.

Has nothing to do with any of that. Card is in wild and wasn't affected by all the recent changes. The event where it became "in the spotlight" then replaced was like a year ago.
