Update 7/22:

Played this list on my monthly climb to D10 and had a lot of fun so I kept going to D5.  Ended up cutting Finley for Okani as there were too many times I didn't want to lose a key piece in my hand even to search for Reno or Tavish.

-1 Sir Finley, Sea Guide

+1 Blademaster Okani

Overall, you should obviously play the non-Reno version if your goal is simply to win.  But give this a try if you like Control games and lots of choices!

Toughest match-ups for me have been Mech Paladin (mulligan for Rustrot Viper) and Celestial Druid (can try to burn down and then disrupt (Okani T7, Ice Trap after Celestial, etc.) but it's tough).  Mech Mage can also be a challenge but, if you save your dmg spells for their swing turns you'll have a decent chance.

Quest and Beast Hunter will be a slug fest and you'll want to bounce Reno with Devouring Swarm if at all possible (looking for more copies of the latter via your discover cards).  Remember that sometimes you'll need to ping Reno with your Hero Power to ensure it dies/returns to hand.

Happy to discuss the deck in more detail if anyone gives it a shot.

Update 7/4:

Lowered the top end to tutor Reno which has felt worth it so far.  Only thing to be mindful of is that Ambassador Faelin will change what you tutor.

Hello Hunters,

Quest Reno Hunter was fun before Prince Renathal and it's even more ridiculous now.  While likely weaker than the non-Prince version, you get to run things like Ambassador Faelin which are tough to justify otherwise.

General Gameplan

We're the Control deck in most (non-Quest Priest) match-ups and want to keep the board clear while generating value / slowly progressing our quest.  If you can wait to finish Step 2 until after playing Beaststalker Tavish that's ideal, but don't hold off removing threats just for the chance at a 0-cost hero power.

I typically mulligan everything looking for removal against aggro or Dun Baldar Bunker and Aimed Shot  Harpoon Gun against combo/control.

Other Tips

  • Dragonbane Shot is more critical for a Reno deck so try to save it for a honorable kill if at all possible
  • Keep in mind that the spell you pick from School Teacher can advance your quest
  • The curses from Warlocks will progress your quest on your turn, but I don't believe they do so again on your 2nd turn if you hold onto them.
  • Neptulon the Tidehunter was the 30th card in my standard Reno version and I loved it as an alternate win condition.  However, with Ambassador Faelin in this version you may be able to drop it for more draw.

Current Additions

I played a lot of Quest Reno Hunter and feel good about the starting 30 so my current extra 10 cards are a mix of draw, dredge, and a little more value.

Notable Exclusions

  • Zola the Gorgon - was too often a dead card while waiting to play Reno and it's rare that you need the 2nd Reno.  Devouring Swarm serves a similar purpose and offers more versatility imo.
  • Ancient Krakenbane - another bad top deck and we're not in a rush to burn down the opponent like a traditional Quest Hunter
  • Twinbow Terrorcoil - love the card and would like to run it, but it felt like a win-more / dead draw too frequently
  • Multicaster - works great if you can draw your secrets, but felt like a dead card too often

Happy Hunting!
